Free to Air TV shafting Vic teams playing interstate
Games outside Victoria shown only on Fox played by Victorian clubs (applies only to Victorian sides, as in other states all games are on FTA).
(Fox only/Total non-Vic games)
Carlton 2/4
Collingwood 0/4
Essendon 1/4
Geelong 0/5
Hawthorn 6/8*
Melbourne 6/6
North 7/8
Richmond 4/5
St Kilda 5/6
Bulldogs 7/7
Interesting to note that Geelong, Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon, the four teams who in total on travel 17 times have only 3 games telecast on Foxtel, the rest Free to Air, whilst all the other Vic teams have all games bar 5 (5 out of 40!) broacast of Foxtel.
Very bizarre, definitely not by accident either.
Very obvious and sly way the AFL has set in stone who are the looked after clubs and who they couldn't give a stuff about.

Yet another example of the rorts and biases that is the AFL.
Exposes Dimwit for the corrupt greasy second rate lacky that he and his ship of fools are.
And even when you get rid of one criminal like Evans.
Along comes another like Fitzpatrick.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

And re our 5 (FIVE !!!!!!) non televised games.
Can anyone confirm that they are at least being shown LIVE ????????
And if they are not LIVE, then that is UNACCEPTABLE.
I can't watch a StK interstate game if it is on delay and pretend it is live.
I need to see it LIVE.
Listening on the radio, especially the appalling biased coverage from SA and WA is not the same.
1) It should be on Free to Air - that was what we were promised
2) And if we are to be subjected to Poxtel (because our name isn't Collingwood) then it HAS to be LIVE.
If not it would then be time to bombard our new President with complaints and see what stuff he is made of.

Fair point, but there are solutions, drink less, dont smoke (not saying you do) dont buy your lunch make it. Spend less money on the mobile phone, there are plenty of ways to save so you can afford Foxtel.Dal_Santos_Gal wrote:yeah first i need a pay raise and a cut in interest ratesGrumpyOne wrote:Solution = get Foxtel.

As a general rule all Foxtel matches are broadcast live, one of the main attractions and selling points.
16 out of a possible 22 matches are on free-to-air, in terms of selling the St Kilda product/brand I would have thought that is pretty good exposure.
That would mean that the vast majority of our matches played in Melbourne (all but 1 if I am correct) are on free to air - I would suspect these matches rate higher than those involving interstate clubs.
I agree with the sentiments expressed about live coverage, if its not live the attraction in watching the broadcast is diminished substantially. When free to air networks have the rights to our interstate games, they are rarely shown live on channel 7, who insist that viewers prefer the "comfort and consistency of an 8.30pm time slot rather than watching a game live"
For all the complaints about Foxtel as far as I recall it has never shown a game delayed where it had the option of a live broadcast - and offered such an excuse in return.

coolies...thanks for the reminder of Channel 7's disgraceful non-live interstate telecasts this year.....at least all our 5 interstate foxtel games will
be live, I prefer that to FTA on delay anyday!
As for our Free To Air interstate game, it is vs. North at Carrara on a Saturday night on TEN, so it will also be live.
So rest easy.....it appears ALL our 6 interstate games will be telecast LIVE in 2008.
MODS - please move this back to the footy forum as it IS footy related methinks....ta

So 16 games are played in Melbourne
5 Interstate games are live on FOXTEL.
That just leaves our Round 14 GoldCoast game against North on Chan 10.
Presumably because this is Sat night they will televise it live ?

Another example on how we get picked on by the AFL. We have the 3rd most games on free to air but they are picking on us again. They obviously want us any the AFL.saintspremiers wrote:Games outside Victoria shown only on Fox played by Victorian clubs (applies only to Victorian sides, as in other states all games are on FTA).

The only problem I have with this is we will have played the most Friday night games in the last 2 years. The time everyone wants but that must be because they think it is a way of getting us out of the AFL.

I'm a Saints supporter, but look at this article, then tell me who's got it bad!!!!
http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/stor ... 43,00.html
This year in SA, I think we had 5 or 6 occassions when we had the same game on free to air & pay tv!!!
Bring back Fox Footy Channel, then EVERY game gets live telecast on either free to air, foxtel or Austar!!!!

Agreed it is expensive, but what do you expect Foxtel to get for their 700 mil or so....? They want as many live games as possible of course.Dal_Santos_Gal wrote:yeah first i need a pay raise and a cut in interest ratesGrumpyOne wrote:Solution = get Foxtel.

This is only the start. Next rights negotiation will cover Pay per View where you can view ANY game whether it be in Melbourne or interstate LIve against the gate for a premium (thought to be about 10 bucks a game). Foxtel will then be limiting its live telecasts as be focusing on replays for its "free" footy coverage. This is what Sky do in the UK and is the same model used for cable in the US.
I am the king of the divan
Pity us in Queensland where we get the Lions and Sydney games on free to air AT THE SAME TIME as they are shown on FOXTEL, if they clash with games to be shown on Foxtel and not free-to-air in Melbourne.
We do not need the same game on both stations. I have complained agressively to all stations about this. I missed some great Saints games last year because this happened, and had to listen on my computer as we could not get radio coverage in Maryborough, where we live.

if you were forced to listen to the radio then you must be doing something wrong......on friday and saturday nights in the northern states foxtell was televising games on two stations most nights when there were clashes such as you mentioned.....from memory 501 and the pay per view channel 518.....

They were showing Friday night games on 518 free to Brisbane subscribers, (by the way it is Austar here) but if the Saturday games or Sunday games for the Lions or Sydney were on Foxtel/Austar then we could only watch that game as it was shown at exactly the same time on Austar and free-to-air. Believe me I tried everything to get to see those matches live, but in the end had to resort to re-plays.
My anger was directed towards the AFL and the free to air network, which allowed this situation to occur.
I happily paid my Austar fees and was let down by the free to air network.
Foxtel fulfilled all their obligations as far as the games they telecast.
I thought I was going to be able to watch 16 games live (which I did where possible by channel swapping between free to air and Austar) but where the same game was shown on Austar and free to air obviously that was not possible, and worse still for me was that I missed some of my beloved Saints games live. Free to air channels did not even bother to reply to my many emails, at least Austar did, even if they could do nothing about the other channels programming. The Afl never bothered to reply. NOt everyonr in Queensland is a Lions supporter. Further to my annoyance was Channel 7's late and abbreviated showing of games to fit in with their Super Car obligations on Sundays.
