Why do people insist on milne playing up the ground. He is a small forward nothing else. In fact that is probably what destroyed him, in 2005 he was unstoppable in the forward line, then GT focussed to much on his weakness's and tried to play him in the middle and he lost all his confidence.I think he has the ability we'd love to see in Milne....A player who can kick goals and play up the ground to effect.
Seen it happen to many players, you can try to improve their weaknesses but it you concentrate to much on them then the player starts to worry about it and looses their instinct as they are concentrate on not making a mistake.
McGough was a perfect example. never been a good kick but for the first year at collingwood was great, then mick focussed too much on his negatives like kicking and you could see every time he got the ball he had to rethink and never took his gut instinct. The end results of which was often worse than his instinct would have been.

Mline requested to be played up the ground. It was his choice and GT let him do what he wanted. Until 2006 Milne would either have a very good game or end up with about 6 touches. As opposition sides figured out his crumbing style the goals dried up and he then had nothing else to add to the team because he rarely left the 50.Jaz wrote:Why do people insist on milne playing up the ground. Milne spending more time up the ground means that he will add to the team even if he doesn't snap a few ridiculous goals. Pre-2006 there was a very fine line from him having a good game or a terrible game. If his opponent has an attention laspe while standing the mark a couple of times it means that he will end up with 2 extra goals. If his opponent pays him full attention then Milne could be goalless. Relying on low-percentage goals to justify selection is not going to work well for any player in the modern game. He is now simply a third leading option in the forward line who can push up the ground and provide support to the midfield.

i think our forward line looks alot more balanced with two crumbers (with all the mids fit - no need for the schniederman to play in the guts for long periods of time)
two big talls in roo and kosi
two smalls in milne and the schniederman
and hopefully a medium forward in....fergo???? a resting luke ball???
our next issue is developing our medium forward ala sammy hamill..

I still can't believe Sydney let him go. They'll struggle to find anybody with Schneider's ability at pick 26. He might be small, but he's tough, quick and skilled. By the look of things, he isn't afraid to use his right foot either. It'll be interesting to see how much Rossy uses him in the centre. He might play a similar role to Joey in 08.
i think if we actually do play a forward line in 08 schneider will compliment milne.
milne did his best work with guerra IMO.
opposition defences found it hard to shut down two livewires.
and shneiders defence capacity is similar to guerras.

The Milne/Guerra combination only started to 'break down' when Guerra's training discipline waned. Until then their combination were a very important component of our attack.

Pacy, evasive, exciting and a good tackler in the forwardline.
I'm convinced that half-forwards play the most important role in footy these days. All the top teams have 2-3 very good forward flankers.
Schneider will be terrific in a St Kilda jumper and will give our team a huge boost.
They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

I think that the gaining the Schneiderman will ease alot of pressure on Milney and allow him to bob up for a few more goals....
In addition one of the best things about securing Schneider is that he is in an area that we are very week in.
Good teams often have 3 small to medium forwards...we only had Milney (would have had 2 if X could actually kick straight at goals).

Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....
'cause boofhead chucked a spaz... said he wanted to kick all the swans goals....and also that the only other player allowed to come into the forward 50 was his best mate and financial advisor...spida.........aussiejones wrote:Why was he let go ?
Saints certainly need goal kickers

i believe Schneiders value will not only be in the work he does but also in the freedom and opportunity he provides for other forwards and mids.
I dont' think it has been Milne necessarily who played his best work with Guerra on the park.
I think that the SAINTS played their best with Guerra on the park. They developed a real reluctance to kick it into the forward line and really slowed up play when moving forward.
this has happened for 3 reasons.
lack of defensive pressure.
mid fielders who aren't known as goal kickers.
and only 1 crummer.
I think that having schnieder there will encourage the mids to kick it long and fast to a kosi contest. knowing that there are 2 live wires at his feet.
This in turn will increase the number of forward 50 entries and this is what it is all about!
