Cousins' Charges to be Dropped?

Just heard on ABC radio over here in sunny Perth that Cousins charges are to be dropped. The comment has been made by his lawyer.

Sorry about the double post.

Just clarified on the news, with more careful wording. The lawyers quote was "....that the charges of possession of narcotics will be dropped on Monday morning."

This still leaves a lot of room for other charges.

Watch the clubs queue up for him now.

Someone will definitely pick him up in the PSD. I wouldn't be surprised if a club uses a late national draft pick to select him either.

He'd have to be a serious consideration now. He goes back to rehab... gets out of Perth... if he stays clean he could be the difference in winning a flag... if he doesn't then he's finished.

I can't see how the AFL can knock back any application for his draft lodgement now. After all, he legally hasn't done anything wrong.

Im sure part of the agreement was not to refuse any test, so he has no hope

No chance of him applying for teh PSD.

Even if one charge has been dropped theres still at least one other charge pending.

AFL wouldnt let him apply with or without a current charge pending anyway.

He needs to get himself right first health wise in my opinion. If he wanted to play again, the AFL would need a full medical report on him.
Shame to lose such a gifted player. His health is much more important

he's not going to get out of the failure to provide a blood sample charge....

So I guess Diazapan isn't an illegal Narcotic after all. No wonder he looked as Happy as Larry in court yesterday.

Oh absolutely... Was probably taking the Diazapan while Drinking. But "everyone" is/was quick to jump to the "he's back on crack" theory and very swift to condemn/label/whatever.

He can't come through the PSD. His contract has been terminated, which requires him to nominate for the draft, and the AFL must approve his draft application. Not much chance of that, I'd have thought.

Pretty Pathetic tbh, 95% of people sledging him for taking drugs again. Very rarely did anyone say it was disappointing or a shame for him to get sacked.

In light of this:

Thats true, it was a perscription anti-depressant. he was asked to show a perscription, and refused to do so possession of proscribed drugs without the relevant perscription is still illegal.

The AFL might find themselves with a nice little legal action to deal with if he decides to nominate & they reject it.

12 hours ago he was a drug addict. I wouldn't at all be surprised if the 'failure to give police a blood test' charge disappears as well. Apparently it's a brand new law & hasn't be 'tested' in a court.

It already appears that Cousins has got himself a real lawyer (rather than the one that we got to represent Bakes).

My money is on him nominating, the AFL caving in & realising that they can't stop him (or will get the arses sued if they do) & a Melbourne club taking a risk & selecting him.

It's not the same thing though. Would their have been anywhere near as much drama and conflict as their was, when everyone thought it was obviously a narcotic he was taking?

Would he have been sacked?

That may be true, but still the charge of 'possessing prohibited substance' is without substance so they have to drop that charge and charge him with something else or concentrate on the other pending charges.
