What do you mean banned as a performance enhancing product? it's illegal through the western world of course it's banned.
I seriously doubt doing a line of Meth would allow you to burn us off like Cousins did that night, we've seen our own players do it before eg. Banger.
I don't believe he's ever done Ice during a game to enhance the way he plays, I really don't believe any professional athlete would do that, their are better stronger drugs that are harder to detect than that.

the USAF issues speed derivatives for endurance and perception.woooosaints wrote:you guys are idiots like i said before and ill say it again ICE is NOT performance enhancing
Cousins is a star Would pick him up in an instant but if he doesnt play for west coast he wouldnt play for any other team
its a fact that some amphetamine derivatives have an effect of a strong stimulant and that includes indurance.
i've posted the links here before.
just one line out of wiki
It is also used illegally for weight loss and to maintain alertness, focus, motivation, and mental clarity for extended periods of time, and for recreational purposes
theres also plenty of links from the USAF and its use there.

you said it yourself Dan, some amphetemine derivatives enhance endurance. Ice is a recreational drug, it makes you horny and love the atmosphere of clubs, I acknowledge that it also keeps you alert however I severely doubt it enhances the performance of a athlete especially a AFL player, I also doubt players will be dropping E's before a game because it keeps you going all night.Dan Warna wrote:the USAF issues speed derivatives for endurance and perception.woooosaints wrote:you guys are idiots like i said before and ill say it again ICE is NOT performance enhancing

He wears a pre-fitted syringe unit underneath his guernsey with a mechanised plunger and timer powered by a lithium polymer cell.st_Trav_ofWA wrote:no player would take drugs at the game there a medicos with the players when they are in the rooms there are cameras there are subiaco oval staff floating in the change rooms supporters volinteers it just wouldnt happen not at a game too much risk of getting caught ive been behind the scenes it wouldnt happen to much go's on around the players and the rooms for them to slipp a pill or have a snort
Cousins pierces the thin layer of adipose tissue of his abdomen with the syringe in the back of the 4WD in the car park or, if he is playing interstate, he gets his room-mate Daniel Chick to assist.
The mechanised plunger is programmed for slow release, administering the dose over a 40- to 50-minute period (during the first half of the game), similar to the way that morphine and other analgesics are delivered in burns units. The drug is delivered to the rich network of capillaries in the adipose tissue and is absorbed slowly into the bloodstream.
In this way Cousins doesn't receive the immediate "high" of the recreational methamphetamine user who injects or inhales the drug, but instead receives all of the performance-enhancing benefits over a period of 30 to 40 minutes (just in time for the second half). These benefits include greater awareness and reaction time, reduced fatigue, more aggression and competitiveness and a feeling of invincibility. This was the method of administration of the drug to Luftwaffe pilots during World War 2 (although in those days, the plunger was depressed with a system of wheels and ratchets, similar to watchworks).
By the time the effects wear off, the final siren has sounded, with the Eagles invariably ahead of their opponents on the scoreboard.
The "such is life" tattoo around his navel is an ingenious method by which to hide the injection scars and to obscure the dark-coloured unit in the event his guernsey is pulled up or stretched in a tackle.
In the first semi-final against Port Adelaide it was a very hot night and Cousins's sweat caused the medical tape holding the injection unit to fail. The unit slipped down into Cousins's short without his knowledge and the syringe inadvertently stabbed him in the leg, causing heavy cramps and spasming in the muscle. The "torn hamstring" was just a ruse. Television cameras clearly showed Cousins slumping his head against the walls of the changerooms in relief as he realised just how close he had come to stabbing himself in the testicles.
Think back to television coverage of the Eagles in the rooms after games. Did you ever see Cousins without his jumper on? Nope. Can't be too careful, you see. Cameras. Too risky.
One thing you did see, however, is Cousins and Chick eating lots of snakes, jubes and other lollies. That's because they had the "munchies", a known symptom of illicit drug use.
No, really, this is all straight up, I heard from a bloke down the Civic whose next-door neighbour used to go out with Cousin's hairdresser's sister-in-law.

we dont know what drugs he was taking but there is a reason it is BANNED as a performance enhancing drug.
recreational drugs was a term introduced recently to cover the fact that some sports people are wacked are on speed.

as for cousins, we know for a fact the AFL testing procedure is pathetic, and there is no knowing when he was taking it, when it was out of his system etc.
lif he was an addict its quite likely it was pretty much in his system non stop given the effects of withdrawal are quite substantial.

Fair enough, I still strongly disagree that he's taking it during/before matches... weren't they testing him after ever game of his return? I have former friends who are addicted to Ice, I really doubt Cousins addiction is as serious as the media has potrayed it, you can't function as a AFL player having that kind of addiction.Dan Warna wrote:dude its methamphetamine base, do some research.ben_fff wrote:

I've heard this too, from less credible sources than yours but I've heard it none the less, those vests are widely available in sports shops accross australia but are supposed to be used to administer insulan fordiabetic athletes, who would have thought cousins would use it for Illicit drugs?Riewoldting wrote:He wears a pre-fitted syringe unit underneath his guernsey with a mechanised plunger and timer powered by a lithium polymer cell.st_Trav_ofWA wrote:no player would take drugs at the game there a medicos with the players when they are in the rooms there are cameras there are subiaco oval staff floating in the change rooms supporters volinteers it just wouldnt happen not at a game too much risk of getting caught ive been behind the scenes it wouldnt happen to much go's on around the players and the rooms for them to slipp a pill or have a snort

"Meals" and "stuff". Yep, that pretty much covers the gamut of things people eat, solid or otherwise.

when you are on those drugs you wont eat at all the reason why they eat lollies half way through games is the same reason why they give you oranges at halftime in junior footyRiewoldting wrote:Thanks, Dr Woooo.woooosaints wrote:Amphetamines Shrinks your stomach most solid things you eat you will vomit up such as meals and stuff

Amphetamines make you not hungry doesnt mean you cant eat or will vomit up what youve eaten, cannabis gives you the munchies thats why they want medicinal cannabis legal as a medicine for cancer suffers so that they will eat
And the fact that when a person is on speed their heart rate is very high so an athelete like an onballer would be nearly dead or have a heart attack after their heart nearly explodes which would give you no benefit at all other than kill you
I dont believe cousins was on the meth when he played as for Luftwaffer pilots they arnt running anywhere although the heart rate was higher due to adrenelin, it was administered to give them a better percepton of what they were doing and to increase their reflex action in combat so they could live another day, an engagement read dogfight did not go no for hours its was over very quik

Well this threads gone wildly off topic. I guess the answer is no, folks here don't want Ben Cousins. I know I don't - not that long ago St. Kilda was viewed as the party club, and our culture remains a work in progress.
As for Ice the performance enhancer, most amphetimines and methamphetimines are banned as performance enhancing not because of what they'll do to you on match day, but what they'll do for you in training. Yeah, great that you can gut run more easily, but if a single tackle puts you on a downer, an iced up player isn't much use now are they? If they're having trouble focusing their eyes on the ball because look at all the pretty lights and other players feet moving around, then they're probably not going to be a great footy player. As some others have suggested, it may be possible to gain a performance enhacning effect by taking a small measured does at the right time... so get the club doctor to give you a caffeine tablet.

No he will not....not in the AFL anyway.
"All that glitters is not gold"
Consider this:
* His age is 29rs, 3 months.. so is 30 next year.
*The Eagles will I believe sack him.
*The AFL will I believe deregister him for at least 2 years.
This alone will mean that Cousins will not play AFL again.
However in addition:
* No other club would take him as their Sponsors would rebel. Sponosrs do not want to be associated with drugs and Cousins will most likely be convicted now. Depending on the quantities and contenents of the substances in the car he may even go to jail.
*No other AFL coach will want him as he would simply be too disruptive an influence on the playing group. Can you imagine the intesnty of the media focus of any club that did take him and the increased pressures that this would induce ona playing group.
*Cousins is not just an addict but is a liar and would directly smack in the face the values that a coach is trying to instill in his playing group. How could any coach make demands of his players when he has just recruited Cousins???
If you want to drive the Saints into oblivion then seek to secure Ben Cousins. He would deliver ruination and not success.
PS. I truly hope that Cousins wises up and reforms, but I fear from his beahaviour that this will not be any time soon. He lives in an unreal word were society norms do naot mattewr to him and which he believes do not apply to himself.

I am not suggesting that Ben did or didn't take any drugs during games but I can tell you that ICE can easily be consumed through a drink if it has been crushed into a powder and it is MOST definitely a performance enhancer. No doubt about it! It will increase endurance, reaction time, heart rate (which can be extremely dangerous while playing sport if not managed correctly) quickness of the mind (ie. decision making) and removes one's fear and inhibitions. This kind of practice (using ICE and other amphetamines in sport) will dehydrate you and one way of telling if someone is using it would be to observe the water, or liquid consumption during a game. Also ICE is NOT a hallucogen, unless mixed with other drugs!
