My My....... Aren't we a touchy lot in here today.....
As for myself, I have absolutely no hatred whatsoever for all you arrogant pr1ck bastard ignoramuses who failed to nominate me as the most intelligent poster here. My modesty and general humility does not permit me to describe how low your combined intelligence rates in comparison to mine. I am a veritable oasis of wisdom in a desert of fools. I am like a stormwater drain of knowledge flowing into a sea of intellectual mediocrity. Wnen my dam wall of superiority breaks you will be all washed away down the gutters of your own ignorance.
But as I said, modesty does not permit me to blow my own trumpet.

understand them perfectly ...
don't have to give you definitions because you are not worthy of my time.
the point about our season from you was that injuries meant that we can accept a 9th spot finish...that is a tired excuse and when imbeciles like yourself decide to wake up and realise that we are missing our chances of a flag becasue of garbage excuses like injuries, new coachn etc, then we may have the belief to actually win a flag.
as for list management, i know exactly what it is, its something we have struggled with in recent times..
pretty sure i understand that we just had a very encouraging trade week, and i hope we dont draft more hacks like brooks, watts but hang on, it must be injuries that are making us miss our chances right?

Fonz15 you still doent get it do you get your hands off your vag and listen. When you do a report or make judgement on our onfield season why would you not take into consideration injuries and so on. Do yo uturn a blind eye and pretend they didnt happen? They did and whose fault it is or why they happened is a differant arguement altogether. As for struggling with list management I fail to see how keeping this group together can been as a failure whos left us thats weve actually wanted?fonz_#15 wrote:understand them perfectly...

The best Modesty Blaise strip I ever read was the one where Willy was kidnapped.
Modesty, dressed in high heels, short shorts and a figure-hugging blouse with no bra, draws her gun, bursts into a room full of kidnappers and gangsters and announces:
"I'm looking for Willy."
I'll bet you are, you saucy little minx!

i am tired of the f****** injury excuse, we are all growing tired of it..of course when writing a report on our season you would include our injury list, but what i dont understand is how you can still rate our season an "A-" which to me is a 7.8ish out of 10 is absurd.CURLY wrote:Fonz15 you still doent get it do you get your hands off your vag and listen. wanted?
we were insipid at times during the year, and subsequently crumbled at big moments i.e collingwood, west coast but you still fail to blame anything other than injuries
On list management, we have kept our core group together, so what? these are a bunch of mates who made a pact to stay together through thick and thin..all the club had to do was ensure that it would all work out contractually..Once you take out your core group of Roo, Kosi, Ball Dal, Goose BJ etc, this is where our list management has been poor:
we have turned over a lot of players in recent times who have spent 2 years in the system, and been delisted i.e raymond, sweeney, watts. Drafted players who have stayed on the list for an extended period of time for little return in games played or quality games played i.e Brooks, Ferg, Mcqualter, gwilt.
We have also picked up recycled players who have yet to offer us anything or since retired/delisted i.e M.Clarke, Gardiner, Watts, Brooks.
to me thats a lot of players outside of our core group who have delivered very little to the club when we have invested time and effort in them.
But CURLY i know nothing do i so something as minor as the facts won't change your opinion of our pathetic season.

Keeping our core group together so what? Are you completely stupid what do you mean so what? This is what list management is all about keeping your core of starting 22 players together as best as possible. The fact that weve been able to assemble a quality core of players and not lose anyone has to be credit to the club.
Again you say about the injuries and being sick of them but they are the reason we finished 9th and not top four whether your sick of them or not thats a fact. Now fonz you claim to know something so I will ask you this what would you have down when Max Fish and Goose were all out?
As for our drafting I think overall weve had as good a record as anyone yes weve had some misses but that has to be expected as anyone that knows anything would know that why you do not.

The fact is, we have have turned over way too many players outside of our core group in the last 3-4 years.
the reason we didn't finish top 4 was because we were not good enough...
when we had no maxi, fisher and fisher there was an issue, but i dont recall us conceding massive totals, but rather not kicking high enough totals to win games. RL did well in covering the defenders absence by pressing numbers back in defence, which despite being negative is an intelligent tactic.
we havent drafted well since we assembled our core group through some pathetic seasons in the watson era.
lets have a look at our draft/trade efforts of the past few seasons..
Rix: mature age ruckman who has a crack but is not afl ruck standard.
Watts: who? made a huge impact hasn't he curly
Raymond: did he ever look a chance to get a game? was left out when there was 24 fit players to select.
Sweeney limited opportunity, but was a fail a best
Gwit: not in our top 30 imo
Mini: going backwards rapidly and is lucky his contract wasnt paid out
Armitage: too early to judge, but reports said he was ready for afl footy and has produced very little in his first year compared to selwood, pendlebury, gibbs etc.
Howard: too early to judge yet, but hasn't produced anything of quality
gilbert: exception to the rule so far..exceptional season for us.
care to tell me how we have drafted well recently?

Yes, this thread was going so well based on the excellent judgment of so many forumites. I've bookmarked this one as, like many saintsational posters, this site is whence I derive any sense of self-worth.
I find it difficult to pick out individual posters. I tried and realised that for all the excellent and thoughtful efforts that so many offer, the thing that really makes this place special is the sense of community I derive.
So all the analyses, predictions and spleen-venting from the numerous luminaries that seem to know something are vital to me from my desk in the Emerald City. I miss the chance to chat ignorantly about football at work functions and this site helps a bit like that! If only this site was around after the vigorous Strooper vs Frost debates we used to have.

The reason we didnt score big totals is because we played lots of numbers behind the ball the two go hand in glove. Lyon knew we were in trouble as any team would be with there 3 key backs out and kept the damage to a minimum. Excellent coaching.
As for drafting if you want to hang your hat on the drafting failure of Sweeny and Raymond both after pick 60 good luck with that what did want a 100 goal full foward. As far the rest who knows what effect serious injuries had on Watts and Brookes and we will never know.
Rix- drafted as a back up ruckman and performs that role.
Mini- yet to find a set role but had all the right boxes ticked to get drafted were we did
Gwilt - handy 25-30 player on our list wouldnt be paying him the earth and still raw nothing lost
Gilbert - great
Ferguson- handy player given a clear run may hold down a spot in our best 22
L Fisher - Solid best 22 no star but not everyone can be still has a role
Who else fonz hey? Which club has a superior draft record than us?
