Re: Captain King
Even for merely making this suggestion your mullett is now set to become a mowhawk !!aussierules0k wrote:
Serious. He's been there, he knows what's required.
As we've seen, making youngsters captains often has a negative effect on their performance. Having 2 or 3 Capts devalues the position, 1 capt is all that's required to flip a coin. King would only play better if given the job.
Plus it would really stick it to the pussies.
Captain King for me.

Saint Nick should be captain...by himself
Lenny is a great leader but nick will be captain for 7-8 more years
Ball still needs to concentrate on himself, get his body right
Nick has won last 2 b&Fs, is a greeat leader and a great media man for the club
MY vote is Roo....as only captain for 2008 and onwards!

Ahhh Lenny Hayes is 27..only a year younger than King
We are blessed to have three outstanding leaders who have learnt their AFL skills at our Club. The rest of the playing group would walk in front of a bus for these guys
King was captain for...two years?? That gives all our blokes just as much leadership experience as him anyway.
Sure, make use of his leadership experiece. Have him mentor our young ruckmen, even at a pinch give him a Leadership Group role, but no way should he be considered for the Captaincy, joint or otherwise.
In my experience in the big wide world, bringing people into leadership/management roles from outside when there are capable people already within your ranks is very bad for morale.

Gutsy post, AOK.... and I'm quite sure you must have 'captained' your school debating team; simply for having the courage to post such a suggestion.
In your heart (and head) I'm positive you know that Kingy simply cannot be the captain of the Saints whilst Banger, Lenny and Rooey are at the club.
The 2008 captain MUST be one of these three.
My opinion F.W.I.W(which is bugger all) is;
Captain: Banger.
Vice Captains: Lenny & Rooey. (Bally only just misses out)
I totally agree with your point that the Saints captaincy has been 'watered down'.
It's a position that needs to be EARNED; and it's a title that players should strive to acheive. That's why King cannot have it at this point in time.
I want to congratulate you on your post, insofar as it will hopefully make Saints supporters; and especially players; realise how big an honour it is to Captain the St.Kilda Football Club.
GO SAINTERS!!

Banger wouldnt want it.
Hes an inspiration on his own anyway. Doesnt need a title.
I was very skeptical when the 3 Captains were announced. Wanted Lenny as sole skipper.
IMO I think Rooey showed that he wants the title full time, and that he deserves it. This bloke puts his body and soul on the line week in and week out. Hes 24 / 25. Hes a natural leader now who has grown into the position.
Captain Riewoldt, Vice Captain Hayes.

and that's exactly why he deserves it, grasshopper.n1ck wrote:Banger wouldnt want it.
(but I'd be more than happy to live with your choice, n1ck. Rooey and Lenny would be superb)

A backward step having Harvs as captain. i have no doubt that it will be the same 3 guys unless for some reason on of them dont want it.BakesFan wrote:Gutsy post, AOK.... and I'm quite sure you must have 'captained' your school debating team; simply for having the courage to post such a suggestion.

Why is it a backward step? GT took the Captaincy off Harvs to play his silly little 'rotation' games.plugger66 wrote:A backward step having Harvs as captain. i have no doubt that it will be the same 3 guys unless for some reason on of them dont want it.
I see Banger being reinstated Captain as natural justice.
Rooey will no doubt make an amazing Saints Captain (perhaps the greatest ever); but at this point in time no-one has earned it ahead of Banger.

He is 36 and hasnt been captain for 6 years. You dont go backwards when the players that were captain are still young and still at the club. One other reason is he wouldnt take it.BakesFan wrote:Why is it a backward step?
