Post: # 474287Post True Blue Sainter »

So - everybody is fully fit (obviously except Attard and Baker)... how would we each line the team up? Here's my go...

B; Dempster Hudghton L. Fisher
HB: S. Fisher Maguire Gram
C: Goddard Hayes Gilbert
HF: Montagna Riewoldt Schneider
F: Milne Koschitzke M. Gardiner
R: King Ball Dal Santo
INT: C. Gardiner X. Clarke R. Clarke Fiora

EMERG: Armitage Geary Blake/Rix

Got to be honest if C Gardiner is in our best side we are in trouble and maybe the same for Dempster. Great trading but lets not forget 1 or 2 of the players are not in our best 22.

Thought that midfield looked a bit thin.. As I was making the team I was debating whether to put him on a HFF or a starting midfielder or on the bench.. Completely overlooked the great man.

My humblest apologies Sir Robert...

Does he get a bench spot and make an impact late in each quarter or does he start each quarter, get a rest then finish the quarter?

Mine from another site:

Well, here we go, your best team, followed by a comment or 2. Don't turn it into a war of words everyones will be different, nothing wrong with some feedback though;

B Baker Hudgton Dempster
HB S. Fisher Maguire J. Gram
C Gilbert Ball Montagna
HF Schneider Riewoldt Goddard
F Harvey Kositchke S. Milne

R Gardiner Hayes Dal Santo

Int. King X. Clarke Fiora Fisher

Started Dempster on the ground, I've got a feeling Lyon rates him, if not L. Fisher could be on the BP. Swung Goddard forward for team balance, the back line took a step that was needed without him this year.

Harvey, X. Clarke and Possibly Fiora to be part of midfield rotations, obviously Baker as the Tagger which means L. Fisher to go back if required, Fish could also play run with in the middle if required.
Schneider could almost go in at times.
Fiora could also go to wings for match ups etc. if Gilbert is required further back.

King and Gardiner to almost share 50-50, chance of 1 of them (maybe more likely Gardiner) sneakin forward to stretch defence at stages. Kosi Pinch hit if mobility is required.

What do you reckon? obviously i'm not saying my team is the best, or this is how we should do it, just giving an opinion, no doubt Lyon will have some things in mind already.

I think they're talking round 1 when he's still serving his suspension.

I'd doubt that Goddard will contribute much for the first bit if we're wary about bringing him back early - most advocate 12months for a full reconstruction.

Round One

B. R.Clarke Hudgton S.Fisher

HB. Gilbert Maguire Dempster

C. Gram Hayes Montagna

HF. Schneider Riewoldt Harvey

F. Milne Koschitzke Goddard

R. King Dal Santo Ball

I. Fiora X.Clarke M.Gardiner Armitage

E. L.Fisher Allen Blake C.Gardiner Watts Birss DP #9, etc

L.Fisher/Dempster competing for the same spot... pre season form makes decision.

Baker in for Armitage (although I want to see Armo get 15+ games)
R.Clarke has a bigger upside than Fisher/Dempster so he gets in.
Gram into midfield rotation, BJ 3rd fwd while he gets his legs back. J.Allen would also be a chance depending on pre season form as well.

A bit of depth all of a sudden....nice

That's a fair point which means getting valuable games into Allen, Geary or Armitage.

Until I see more from Armitage, Allen, Geary and DP #9 and Baker returns from suspension...No, I'm not kidding.

S. Fisher - Hudghton - R. Clarke
Gram - Maguire - Gilbert
Goddard - Hayes - Montagna
Harvey - Riewoldt - Fiora
Schneider - Watts - X. Clarke
Koschitzke - Ball - Dal Santo

Birss - Blake - L. Fisher- King

I'm no more sold on King's ability to hold down a number one ruck spot than I was Gardiner last year. I don't see Kosi playing full time FF with our rucks. Charlie Gardiner is a CHF, but he'd be another one in the mix for the spot up forward. Dempster is nothing more than depth. Schneider is the really interesting one. Can play up forward or in the midfield if needed.

Honestly, wouldn't surprise me to see Harvey come off the bench for '08 as a reaction to seeing where te ball ends up most. Also wouldn't surprise me to see Milne/Schneider/X Clark start off the bench based on form. Milne will revert to more small forward, less midfield, tempered to the Lyon gameplan which will still bring him up the ground at times.

I don't see Charlie Gardiner as a walk on to the best 22, barring delisment i see him fighting with Watts and Brooks for the fwd spot - Brooks chances will ahve a lot to do with the health of Michael Gardiner and Steven King.

I don't see Dempster in the best 22, but wouldn't be surprised if Lyon finds a way to get him in there for round 1... his road into the team as i see it is to steal Blake's job as a defensive utility, which will require healthy rucks.

The ONLY way Kosi starts at and stays at FF is if both Steven Kind and Michael Gardiner stay healthy AND hit form.

FB: S. Fisher - Hudghton - R Clark
HB: Goddard - Maguire - Gilbert
W: Gram - Hayes - Montagna
HF: Schneider/X Clarke - Riewoldt - Harvey/Fiora/C. Gardiner
FF: Milne - Watts/Brooks/C Gardiner - X Clark/Schneider
R: Kosi/King - Ball - Dal Santo

Int: Fiora/Harvey, Blake/Dempster, L Fisher, King/M. Gardiner.

Lyon still surprises me, and injuries are St. Kilda's greatest skill though, so we shall see.
