Schneider and Dempster for 26 confirmed
Moderators: Saintsational Administrators, Saintsational Moderators
The whole thing panned out interestingly, and i feel we certainly got the better deal. Schnider for pick 26(??) was good enough i thought. However, I went abit cold on it when the L.Fisher connection was made. He had an indifferent 07 season, but he is still finding his way, and has all the necassary attributes to make it as a top liner, IMO..
Now to keep Fish, get schnider and throw in a tallish defender in Dempster (who i dont know much about) aswell, is a massive win for the saints... Well done all round. Great to see Fisher is staying put.

With dempster, we have to trust Ross Lyon here...just have to...but then, why would Roos let him go...?
Really, Lyon knows this guy well, he could release other players and hold his own as well...at the proposed price, its a great get.
Schneider is especially inviting and is close to everything Ross Lyon saw as missing from our list...in fact, he probably would have nomintaed Schneid in his top 4 would-love-to-haves when he got to moorabbin
good player
As for Milne, this will be great for Milne...he's been doing the work of two men for us, so now he has some help...he isn't a goal sneak anymore wnyway, he is a HFF - just like schneider...the whole reason Lyon's after Schneider isn't to replace milne, its because milne needs help in this role
you can have more than one
indeed, you need to
finally, it should be said that these aren't official yet...nothing has been signed...
and roos isn't hurting his chances of success just to help out a mate...that is completely silly thinking

Lets just see what he plays like first.
Pretty sure many swans fans call him that as a term of endearment/derision - I'd imagine Sean has had it a few times throughout his career!
In any case some folk here need another whipping boy after Aaron Fiora's improvement this year.
concur, I did a bit of reading on the various swans forums and scanned his stats to try and get an image of him.cowboy18 wrote:saintsRrising wrote:Nice work Dan...ridiculing a guy that is just arriving....Dan Warna wrote:dumpster .

IMO the talk of sydney's amazing depth is pretty much limited. They have had a miracle run with injuries and they got badly exposed when they stacked 4 or 5 injuries mid season.
dempster IMO wouldn't be in st kilda's best 22, but at 23, IMO he has plenty of room to improve.
basically I think dempster was probably going to be delisted or kept as a top up player

Use this from the Saints site instead of the Dimwit one.

Don't dwell on the past.
Look to the future.

IMO if Schneider + Milne = 3.5 goals per game and say 3 goal assists, the synergistic effect will outweight the individual efforts.
we saw this with guerra + milne.
many honest blues accept that big reds decline occured with the departure of hamill, and lets be honest, our forward line always seemed more robust with hammer there regardless of his stats contribution.
similar baker/thompson/powell/keogh/Greig etc contribution always outweighed their individal stats.

From a blog comment by a swans fan on the age website:
"Also as a Swans supporter, i'm happy with the Mattner deal, but trading Schnieder and Dempster for a second round pick? Two of our younger premiership players for a second round pick is crazy! So is the Jude Bolton and Amon Buchanon trade talk. How could the Swans trade Schneider & Dempster and shop Buchanon and Bolton while Ben Matthews and Paul Bevan remain safe! "

I've got a good friend with the same surname and his nic is Demo. He could be a real surprise, we've got him for a song so it will be interesting to see how Lyon uses him.Dan Warna wrote:I pointed out thats what he is referred to on the swans site.saintsRrising wrote:Nice work Dan...ridiculing a guy that is just arriving....Dan Warna wrote:dumpster .

I think its quite amusing.2 The Dumpster for his sterling job on B. Johnson.
I like schneiderman as a nick name too.

Well done Saints!
a solid starting 22 player with 150 plus games in front of him aged 23.
and a young developing tall with some talent and potential aged 23.
IMO dempster > round 3 pick, we know what he is capable off.
pick 26 for schneider, slight advantage to use, with his potential could be a massive win for us.
both for pick 26 bargain.
AND WE KEEP FISH!!!! win win win ! DING.

You little ripper!!
2x 23 year olds with Grand Final experience for one pick #26 in a weak draft. Remember we picked up Howard with #27 last year.
Saints definitely a winner out of this one.
I don't see Dempster doing much in 2008, but it gives us another good defensive option if Max, Goose, or Chips are injured - or if we come against a top-heavy team and need some bigger defensive options. Again someone to groom for FB so Max can go to 3rd tall, or for when he retires. Makes delisting Wall from our rookie list a little easier.
As for Schneider, it really gives our forward line an extra dimension. I still think we need to develop a medium sized marking/leading forward. Or at least someone that's relatively mobile like Allen or maybe Ferguson who can take a mark, but also have an impact at ground level.

Well done Saints!
The stupid dinosaur snail-mail paced AFL tracker is not updated live.
The last update was at 11.58am this morning, it is already out of date....according to SEN another trade just went through just after noon.
Completely crazy - surely it should be live today??
BTW - SEN will be broadcast on afl.com.au from 1 to 2pm as the SEN website for listening will be no doubt overloaded then.
