not necessarily...but if we went to adelaide twice thatd be obviously a better outcome......an hour or so on the plane...HarveysDeciple wrote:although no sydney trip probably means we have to travel to either adelaide or perth twice, or bothTeflon wrote:if that means no sydney return trip...im good with that...Riewoldting wrote:That means we would only play the Swans once in 2008 H&A

Um, just because we play Sydney in round one, doesn't mean we DON'T play them a second time. If you look at the 2007 fixture, every game but St.Kilda v Melbourne, Kangaroos v Collingwood, Carlton v Richmond had a return fixture at some stage.
So we may still get a trip to Sydney. I'll taka trip to Sydney over two to Perth any day. Does anybody here think we're a realistic chance of snagging four interstate matches only? I'd like port, adelaide, swans and eagles.

I think we'll need to stretch them with our tall forwards.
Our defence should hold up well against them but the midfield needs to deprive them of first use. Baker isn't as big a loss against the swans from a tagging perspective but would be good in close. Dal/Ball/Lenny should give us plenty of ball if Rix and Blake negate Jolly and Everitt again.
First thoughts...
Max on Hall
S Fisher to O'Keefe
Goose to Everitt/Barlow/Vogels/Richards
Gram to run off Schneider/Buchanan
L Fisher to Davis
X to Mattner - good drive from that wing/hff.
Kosi and Roo up forward are a difficult pairing to beat.
Saints by 27 points.

Caro mentions everything BUT the actual rd 1 games

Two-game start but origin dies
Caroline Wilson | October 10, 2007
AFL state-of-origin football appears dead and buried, with league bosses admitting yesterday the concept was now "unlikely" to be reintroduced into the 2008 fixture and would therefore remain a historic relic of the game's past.

I wonder what our Ruck combination will be........
"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....
A twilight (5.30pm?) start on a working day?? Hmm that will be interesting.
Also dont think that Geelong, as Premiers, would be too happy having the GF rematch in Adelaide. Surely winning the flag gives them the right to unfurl the flag at home in Round 1??
Nice bit of symmetry..2000 Olympics year, we play Sydney at TD on Easter Saturday..flsh forward 8 years to another olympic year..same deal (different result I hope though!) Very glad to open our season at home for a change!!
