--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MELBOURNE, Oct 9 AAP - Adelaide defender Martin Mattner is headed to Sydney in the first completed deal of the AFL's trade week.

Mattner will go to the Swans in return for their second round draft pick, No.28 overall.

The 25-year-old running backman has played 98 matches over six seasons since being elevated from the Crows' rookie list.

But he was dropped by the Crows ahead of their elimination final loss to Hawthorn.

"We would like to wish Marty all the best in his new venture with Sydney and thank him for his strong contribution to the Adelaide Football Club over the past six years," Adelaide football manager John Reid said.

"To have a player graduate from our rookie list and nearly reach 100 AFL games is a win for both the club and Marty and we hope this deal brings more of the same."

==================================

Great deal for the Swans. A shrewd bit of dealing there.

I hope this puts one or both of Amon Buchanan or Adam Schneider on the table...

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Fantastic deal for the Swans. Worth pick #28 any day of the week.

Indeed.

I wonder if we'll give up pick 9 for a lesser player, ie a GOP ruckman due to our desperation, plus other clubs knowing we are desperate and therefore will happily screw us!!

A mate just told me that on SEN they were talking that Blake to the Saints is looking likely.

Say it ain't so or at least tell me we will not give up our first two picks.

I'd be dissapointed if we gave up our second round pick for him considering what else is out there.

how many games they play is a good indication on how good they are
a s*** player wont play 100 games and a good player will play more then 30

if you would like i could dig up worthless stat after worthless stat but in the end only good players play and the no good players dont its fairly simple

a 23 yearold who regulary plays AFL >>> then a 23 year old who gets one game a year

lol - still think you know more than real football people at the club ie the coaches who had Jason Blake in the top ten.

You real have made a fool of yourself of your continual bagging of Blake

Only someone who has absolutely no idea of football would call a player who has played 100 games at the top leve s.hite.

You continue to make an idiot out of yourself, but keep it up, it is highly amusing to laugh at your stupidity and ignorance.

Lance or James??

because lyon saw him as a forward only this year and thus he was behind gehrig, kosi, roo etc. for a spot.

Grant Thomas says that he would have played brooks against melbourne in last years final.

He had a cracker of a second half of the season and showed more in the final for casey then rix and clarke put together.

......A decison that I was amazed at at the time.

i agree he will be on the list cause if we were to delist him it would of been done by now but i dont hold any high hopes for him to add anymore to that tally of afl games he has

trust me i would love nothing more for him to prove me wrong and turn into a good servicable player but i cant see it happening

Have heard that they are close to agreeing a deal... nothing about it being confirmed although it seems obvious that it will be done eventually.
