Going to agree with most in the thread that Rod has done the right thing here. Lengthy and costly legal battle is not good for the club, and I could understand his position if he were not so outnumbered in polls and proxy votes.
Here's hoping that this is a day that will be remembered as a good day for the St. Kilda Football Club, it's players, members, and on field success.

Did I miss hear that but didn't he say they would not but he does not want to comment on that anymore.SENsaintsational wrote:Will he still be going ahead with his legal action about the alcohol & drugs comments?

You heard right Solar.
RB said that he moved on and that HE WOULD NOT be taking any action.
SEN were trying to get him to be critical of Westaway but he did not engage other than to say it was unfortunate (which it certainly was).

it's sad that the best press interview comes as he stands down.saintsRrising wrote:Solar wrote:Did I miss hear that but didn't he say they would not but he does not want to comment on that anymore.SENsaintsational wrote:Will he still be going ahead with his legal action about the alcohol & drugs comments?

I think he talked from his heart insteed of trying to spin his way out of things and it came across really well.
If I could ask for one thing from the new board, don't spin things.

he did point out that he didn't put much emphasis on the proxies 'supposedly' sent in when queried about the ' up to 10,000 - but even if there wer but 1,500 he/they needed to listen.

Wasn't it RB et al that initiated said legal action?! Doesn't exactly have a strong record when things get legal does he.Grimfang wrote:From FOX SPORTS NEWS
Butterss said he and the board were "not prepared to submit the club to a costly legal battle in the courts which is scheduled to commence tomorrow".
That aside, thanks for what you've done Rod, and thanks for making it easy now.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.
RB did the honorable thing.

No, Brewer. SFF initiated the legal challenge about the EGM/AGM. RB et al had nothing to do with this one.Brewer wrote:Wasn't it RB et al that initiated said legal action?! Doesn't exactly have a strong record when things get legal does he.Grimfang wrote:From FOX SPORTS NEWS

I'm not going to focus on the last year - it's too easy to remember people from when things go wrong... what I want to remember is the fact that he helped turn the club around... we are financially stable now.
And good on him for stepping down now, not dragging things out.
Thank you for everything you, and the board, have done over your time serving the club. Good luck in the future.
And, of course, good luck to the St. Kilda footy club for the future too.

BUTTERSS GONE
Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007 at 2:39 pmBY SHANE POTTER
FOOTYHEADS BREAKING NEWS
St. Kilda President Rod Butterss has fallen on his sword and stood down as President of St. Kilda after an on going battle with a challenging ticket, Footy First.
Butterss and his board has stood aside with the Footy First ticket led by Greg Westaway and also including former great Nathan Burke and recently retired player Andrew Thompson are now set to take over.
“I think that in the past seven or eight years the administration has enjoyed strong support from the membership base and I think through the reading of the market at the moment there is a sentiment for change and it is up to us to read that market and see the view and I think it is enough to suggest you move on,â€

St Kilda board resigns
4:07 PM Tue 2 October, 2007 | Back
for saints.com.au
.....>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
In conclusion Rod said it's been a wonderful privilege to be so intimately involved with the St Kilda Football Club over the past 8 years and thanked the club's members for their support, unyielding passion and encouragement over the years.
Rod Butterss and his retiring directors said that their support and love for the St Kilda Football Club will never die and they will be there from the first game next year along with all the other St Kilda fans to provide support to the club that they have been honoured to follow and serve.
There will be no further comment from Rod or the other retiring directors as they feel enough has been said and the more sensible approach from them is to retire to lunch which is what they will do now.

I was typing in my question when Doran asked it, so the answer was pretty blunt. "I'm not discussing it. I've moved on."
