Bruce turns 28 in 6 days. He would only have 3-4 years left in him and he hasn't set the world on fire ever since the Guerra tackle. He is still a good midfielder and would help us win a flag, but him alone wouldn't be worth a top 10 pick. I would definitely trade Pick 9 for Bruce and Miller.OLB wrote:Pick 9 for Cameron Bruce AND Melbourne threw something else in!?! Come on.
Bruce is their best player imo. Turns 28 late next year.
pick 9 as a weapon.

If we ARE going to use Pick 9 as a weapon (wasnt that a Pat Benatar song by the way???;)) it absolutely has to be a trade skewed massively in our favour.
The Clubs who want Judd...you want our pick 9?? lets see how badly you want it!! You dont agree to our terms?? Fine we'll keep it and draft a kid, no skin off our nose.
We have nothing to lose in these deals. The "Judd" clubs are the ones who are going to make errors of judgement in the heat of the trading moment. Its up to us to reap the benefits:-)

exactly it should NOT be 'what will you give us for our pick 9', it SHOULD be, "so you want our pick 9 do you?"
with possibly the exception of Gehrig we've traded fairly with most clubs (even hamill pick 4 was an outstanding pick in a solid draft, not our fault they chose livingstone, and cranage IMO was quite a solid player wasted under poor leadership at the time)
IMO we should be courting offers for our pick 9 rather than hawking it around.

Trading a top ten draft pick.
I find it absolutely repulsive.
Top ten in any draft should still be one of the best kids in the country.
If we are not trading for Judd, I would be bleeding any club for that pick. Bending them over as hard as possible.
In all honesty trading it would still be a shyte decision.

There have been some ordinary top 10 picks though.bigred wrote:Trading a top ten draft pick.

For interests sake, the last 10 players drafted with pick 9:
2006 - St Kilda: David Armitage,
2005 - Brisbane: Mitchell Clarke,
2004 - Carlton: Jordan Russell,
2003 - Kangaroos: David Trotter,
2002 - Kangaroos: Hamish McIntosh,
2001 - Melbourne: Luke Molan,
2000 - Richmond: Kayne Pettifer,
1999 - St. Kilda: Caydn Beetham,
1998 - Essendon: Mark McVeigh,
1997 - Port Adelaide: Chad Cornes
Very mixed results, Cornes of course is a gun, McIntosh has come good this year and would rate #2 out of the #9s... but even in the "superdraft" of 2001, Melbourne managed to find a bust there.
For mine, unless we're getting a gun, we don't consider trading it and use it to recruit the most talented kid available at pick #9, but lets not kid ourselves that a top 10 pick is an easy star 10 year player.
