hope not. rather keep the first round draft pick. but this rumour is growing.
I could see it happening. That would give Carlton two top-10 picks to deal for Judd. The only problem with that is supposedly Carlton have told Judd that Fev will be there next year. My guess is that Judd would rather be kicking to Fev than to Whitnall/Waite/Kennedy.

I still want Hasleby. Anyone know if he's re-signed yet?

:( :( :( :( :(

BUGGER!
I have alot of love for that man...
this sucks!!

Feel for him not being able to perform to the level we all know he can.
His heart is so big, it beats for this club.
Always will, thank you Sammy for providing so much inspiration and courage.
Its been a priviledge.

A sad end to a very very good career. Sammy was almost the quintessential team player....sacrificing his own game & body and making all others walk taller.

Hopefully he won't be lost to the club... forward line coach would be a great appointment.

Hamill's contract will still be included in the salary cap.
He frees up a spot.

I hope RL and the recruiting team look out for another strong, tough half forward as that's one of the things we missed this year.

i for one hoped the hammer would get over his injuries and make a comeback.

his goals in his one magoos game got us salivating I think.

I hope st kilda honors him, his contribution is beyond what his numbers and stats say.

one final thing, he may release cash to the st kilda kitty but my understanding is his salary is counted towards 2008 TPP.

this happened when crapuano was cut and caydn beetham were cut.

I hope we dont use the money unwisely on buy crapola players to st kilda in a binge not dissimilar to what we have seen freo do over the years.

Sad end for a terrific footballer.

Old fashioned crash and bash type who are almost gone from what is now an athlete's game.

Fearsome and aggressive at his best and had a couple of great years when he first came to us.

Great bloke off the field and a role model and leader around the club.

We never got to see the best of Sammy ... age 27/28/29 should be your prime, and for him it has been a mess with injury.

All the best for the future and thanks for making me want to come and watch footy for the best part of the last five years.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

No, he'll still be on the list, ala Michael Voss this year. He'll be replaced by someone from the rookie list, either one of the 3 we keep, or a new rookie draftee.

What the article implies is that there was some room under this years cap and they were able to come to an arrangement with Hammill to bring forward some of next years pay into this year, reducing (not eliminating) his cap hit for next year.

His early retirement does not free up a list spot.

The Saints have managed to strike a deal with Hamill over the last year of the contract, having brought forward some of next year's contract into this year's player payments, via the injury payments allowance.

So Hamill's retirement will save the club some salary cap room in 2008 and should allow them to acquire a player, although the club is still to re-sign key defender Matt Maguire.

Absolutely gutted. This guy put the fear of god into opposition sides...he had the ability to bring others into the game....we NEVER got the best from this bloke and as others said at 27/28 your in your prime......just such a shame.

1 thing we DO NOT have as a club is an enforcer - Hammer was that.

Such a shame - great career Aaron and thanks for the short memories...

Real shame.

Happy to say I was at his last game for Casey Scorps along with Snoopygirl, cowboy18, the twins and assorted other Saints tragics. Was at his awesome best.

Oh well we move on. One good thing is that now all those bitter angry Blues supporters can also move on, probably to obsess about bj or mabye Fevola.

Thanks for the efforts Sammy.

He was a guy I gave heaps about when he came over from the Blues, but it didn't take him long to make me look like a complete idiot. A true champion, a well deserved captain of the club and always played with 110% commitment and focus - even when injured!! The thing I really loved about Hamill was his ability to stick up for his team-mates when they came under fire, he was always there, it was unquestionable!

Thanks for the memories Hammer, rest up champ!

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

thank you Aaron :(
at 30 you have worn your endeavour with pride.
You were the enforcer BUt every hit seemed to take you longer to recover from .
Pity you didn't get those extra 2 games;but the 98 were wonderful

Take the time to recover fully and begin life anew and enjoying your family.

:?: with all those 30+ players retiring do we get the youngest list discussion again.

unsure as yet the article only says part of his contravt in this years salary cap..... If there is still some in next years contract then he still takes up a spot on the list. Just have to wait and see a couple of days to find out the whole story.

DAMN I will miss him.

Thanks for the contributions Aaron, best of luck

Thanks Sammy for the great memories and for always giving your all once you became a Sainter.

However with Sammy and GTrain gone the "Blighlotto" era is now officially over.

One window has closed.....and it is now time to open a new one.

We hava a new coach, a new approach and expertise in player fitness management, incresaes emphasi on player development and recruiting.....and soon a new Board.....who will hopeflly deliver on their promise to ramp up spending MORE than was already starting to occur.

It is time for a new Saints.

Me too. The way he played and moved on that day indicated that he still had everything he needed to play at the top level.

Unfortunately it turned out he was short one good knee.

Absolute Tradgedy.

its almost poetic that sammy and G leave the same year as they arrived at the same time

i remember when we got both of them it was the biggest buzz it was a start of a new era for the club one that was going to lead us to premiership glory ... it didnt happen but it was a fun ride all the same
im sad by their retirments but part of me cant help but be excited about the next phase of our club now the "young guns" are going to be the leaders of the club

thanx for the memories Sammy the last of the bash and crash players a st kilda

my love for sammy (in a non sexual way) is unexplainable. The way he went about his footy as a leader and enforcer made us all grin with pride.

you will be missed aaron.
