Who should be on the Saints shopping list?

Post: # 448302Post Comeback Kid »

Give me your ideas, players names that st kilda should seriously look at getting to the club. How are we gonna get them here, trade draft picks lesser-like players too get them here.

Personally I'd like to make a bid for David Hille, dont know his contact terms at Essendon. Was getting dropped for no good reason the past weeks at Essendon and heard he may have had a falling out with Sheedy(though that wont matter next year!).

So what other players do we want?

Hille will be retained by the Bombers' new coach because he is their only decent ruckman.

I hate trading away draft picks, and I believe we need to get some young kids in the place again.

BUT ... if it came to a situation where the Saints could pick up a player without losing draft position, then the following blokes should be considered:

- Jobe Watson
- Brad Symes
- Cameron Wood

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

A ruckmen should be our first priority, with midfielders a close second. I don't know about trading draft picks for them though.

I would prefer that we trade if we trade at all, to improve our draft picks. We have 3 retirees at the moment with Brett Voss another posibility. We will drop from 3 or 4 off our list. I would like to see us promote 2 rookies, probably Eddy and Geary, leaving us 4 to 6 draft picks.
If we could trade a player with one of our lower draft picks, and collect another 2nd round pick, we should.
Carlton will; do the better job of tanking today, so we will have picks 9. 26, 42,, 58. 74, 90.
I would like us to either go for Alex Rance, a 194 key defender from WA, or Cyril Rioli from St,Marys NT, who would give us that much needed genuine pace in the midfiled and forward line we lack, with our first pick.
I would use our 2nd round picks for a ruckman, and depending on who we selected with pick 9, either a key position or an on-baller.
Our remaining picks I would take the best available, with emphasis on fast on-ballers.
I would de-list Jones and Walls from our rookies, keep Attard and Van Rhys, and select 4 new rookies including another young ruckman, a KPP and 2 on-ballers.
I know people are saying it is not a strong draft list this year, but I am sure there will be quite a few that will enjoy good AFL careers. Lets try and get some of them in Saints colours.

1. Ruckman

2. Tall Defender

3. Fast Midfielders

Simple really.

Get rid off record numbers in Brooks, Rix, McQualter, Ferguson, Sweeney lets face it they arent going anywhere.

Retain Jones (quickness), Attard and Geary (Tall Defender)

DRAFT HARD STKILDA.

Get Charman!!! or someone simular!!

4th Round DP for Sampi - they are going to delist him, they'd take it.

R. Clarke and 2nd round DP for Hase and their 4th rounder

Jobe would take enormous pressure off Ball and Lenny in the packs, and allow Dal and Joey to play exclusively as outside mids, which would benefit the side.

His skills are solid, and it would really help our clearance rate and midfield drive.

Plus Jobe is a ripper bloke too ...

Somehow thought I think Essendon's next coach will see more sense than Sheedy has with JW.

point taken..

i think he is a quality player, just sometimes struggles delivering by foot.

i would not be complaing if he was chased by the saints, as long as his playing career (at the saints) isn't like his fathers coaching career at our club

believe in and exploit the draft. best available player regardless of type.

if we trade, his best football must be in front of him; not behind.

no washed up dud hacks please. we shouldn't look at anyone over 25 unless he is a gun and going for a song.

i'd prefer to not trade for anyone over 23-24, unless they are something special i.e J.rown, Judd etc type calibre which will not happe

How about worrying about keeping the players we have currently got!!

We have to keep
Riewoldt, Dal, Ball, Kosi, Maguire, Goddard, Hayes, S.Fisher, Gram, Montagna......add up the salaries....then add another 28 players salaries....and keep it under the cap.....tough ask...

The above mentioned could all demand more on the open market.....lets be honest

we cannot afford another A Grade player......keep the talk realistic...

Haselby
Cox

we would have to be prepared to give up a Kosi/Maguire/Gram etc.....then we have another hole.....every list has holes.....coaching is how you get around them

Pick 19 - Carlton PP

So, my shopping list.

Pick 27
Pick 43

Rookie Pick 8
PSD Pick 8

What about a full forward to replace the G-Train? Do we have anyone on our lists that will fill his void or are we going to have to shop for one during the mid-season break?

Priority #1- A ruckman! A decent one at that. Hille, Jolly, Warnocke, Seaby, etc.

Load up on more young midfielders, develop Jarryd Allen as a key defender.
