M. Clarke retired too

ST KILDA coach Ross Lyon has urged veteran Robert Harvey to play on next year, after the Saints lost a wealth of experience with Fraser Gehrig, Andrew Thompson and Matthew Clarke all retiring following Saturday's match at the MCG.
Not a big loss, but thanks for the service!

Would love to keep him at the CLub in a coaching capacity..although I have a suspicion he will return home to SA
Was a tap ruckman without peer in his prime and Im sure once he could focus on coaching rather than lookng after his own body as well, would be a real asset to the Club

What a great recruiting move that was for us. Almost as good as Gardiner.
Blake is going to be our number 1 ruckman next season unless we do something, anything.
Ackland may be delisted by the Blues, and many of us were sad to see him go. Let's see if he can lead us to that premiership that we deserve!!!

Think he has real potential as a ruck coach.saint66au wrote:Would love to keep him at the CLub in a coaching capacity..although I have a suspicion he will return home to SA
Outside of that, he was a pick-up best forgotten who provdied pretty average service.

Well that was a waste of time. Would have been better to simply ask him to pay us a few visits as a specialist ruck coach. If he wasn't there then Brooks probably would have gotten a fair go in the ruck and we'd at least know what he is capable of.
It really is a shame that we took Clarke instead of (my preference) Tom Collier, who is a 192cm athletic running defender/onballer (Chad Cornes type) and is set to go in the first round this year.

Is Collier an U/18 MSG? Could we have picked him up in last year's pre season draft?
It was a gamble by Lyon that didn't pay any dividends except to get a bloke with great experience to help out the other ruckman.
I now stand by my Darren Jolly comment of this week. If he is coming back to Melbourne he has to be priority #1.

I once spent a year in Adelaide, I think it was on a Sunday.

It was interesting (and a condemnation) that Kosi said that he has learnt more about rucking from Clarke than from anyone else.
Doesn't say much about Matt Rendell or whoever was teaching him the trade in the past.
But maybe supports prev posters that we should retain him as a specialist coach.

thank you matt for your efforts, hopefully your presence has had an impact on our emerging ruckman.
good luck with whatever you choose to do with your life now :]
Wasn't our greatest recruit, but I'm sure he gave 100% whenever he played for us.
