I haven't used this word to describe a St Kilda player since the days of Timmy Watson's recruiting, but Clint Jones is a HACK.
Worst skills in the AFL
Worst composure in the AFL
Pathetic ground-level skills
Pathetic decision-making
Physically weak
And Lyon has stated that he rates him in our best 22.
He is mini-Riewoldt. One-eighth Roo's size and has one-eighth of the talent of Roo's fingernails.

Jones played poorly, but he is young and has shown some glimpes.
But Xman has been round for years and is a first round draft pick.
Given that pidigree his performance tonight was unacceptable and he needs to be dropped to find some form and confidence.
And Gehrig !!!!!
Some would say that this is further proof of GT's assertion that he would never take Fraser on a road trip ever again if he had remained as coach.
But that doesn't explain last weeks shocker.
If it is his hand then rest him and give Watts a go.
And if it is not his hand then he is just out of form and again - GIVE WATTS A GO !

Whatever a glimpe is, it sure as hell doesn't have anything to do with appearing to be a competent AFL player.Enrico_Misso wrote:Jones played poorly, but he is young and has shown some glimpes.
Jones will be over 24 by the start of next season. He is not a kid and just doesn't have the ability to make it. He can run a fast 30m sprint at training and that is it.
He was worth a punt on the rookie list because he showed that he could get a bit of the footy and run with it in the WAFL, but he is not a player able to adapt to AFL level.

Worth the punt at the start of the year, but I'm almost tempted to see him Capuanoed.
Looks completely out of place at AFL level. Demote immediately, promote friggen Geary if we must.
We've given the boy a good salary for a year, 12 months in the AFL and a great time he'll never forget. He'll now get a contract at any WAFL, SANFL or VFL club thanks to his stint with us.
We owe him nothing, and there's nothing to say except thanks for coming, all the best and we hope you enjoyed your time in the RW&B.

I tend to agree. But on the other hand, it would be a shame to see him end up at another club and excel.evertonfc wrote:Worth the punt at the start of the year, but I'm almost tempted to see him Capuanoed.

Is he worth one more year? Judging by tonights performance, I'd say no... but maybe he should be given one more match to prove his worth.

He won't be picked up by another club, I can assure you.
And he doesn't have anything in his game that will allow him to excel at this level, apart from pace - and he's not really even as quick as people make out.
So rest easy my friend, when he gets the chop, the only thing wasted will have been a spot on our rookie list for 2007. But be glad, because it didn't cost us anything really, and it was probably worth the gamble at the time.
If he was taken in the national draft with a 2nd or 3rd round pick then yes, I'd be angry and demanding he stay on and give us his worth. But he wasn't, we couldn't expect much from such a small wager. We lose, we move on, and next time, we find better rookies in which to invest our time.
Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.
Excuse me, the guy has played how many games, um 5 I believe. Yeah not playing great. Correct me if I'm wrong, back from a broken collar bone. Correct me if I'm wrong, Lenny also back from a broken collar bone and not playing the way he use to. Correct me again if I am wrong. Roo, also broken collar bone, took him a while to regain form. Give the boy a go............... pls.............. If it was Brooks, Mcqualter, etc everyone would say he was playing great

He only had 8 possessions. Not good enough for a small on-baller type.
He may be fast but he does not always use his speed. Looked slow on one occasion.
For those who want him to have another game, at whose expence, TRhommo, Armitage. How has he managed to play more games than Armitage? How many games for the Scorps has he been in the best players? Why does he get selected before others that are regularly in the best players?

I seem to remember another 23/24 yo who had terrible disposal skills when we drafted him. We persisted with this player and now whilst his disposal isn't great he has been a fantastic servant to the club, his work rate could never be questioned and he did improve in his disposal. We had to allow time to this guy to get his footing in the highest level of the game as well and it has paid off.
These were my memories of a young Andrew Thompson.
CJ will get better if he is coached along and given the time to develop to the higher level of AFL he can contribute in the future. Remember he has come from a reasonable standard competition but not a comp that is anywhere near the AFL level of play. He has been injured during the season which will through any player off a touch and since he doesn't have the experience and understanding of the much faster AFL level he is going to make mistakes.
Is his disposal that much worse than Blake, X.Clarke, L.Fisher, McQualter and Thompson. Some here lament he had 8 possessions last night but that is only 2 less than Milne, 1 less than Fiora, 5 less than Dal Santo and Harvey and 4 more than Gehrig these are all far more experienced players . One thing the stats sheet doesn't tell is time on ground and I dare say he didn't get the opportunity of most of those players!
He shouldn't play next week. He has had 2 more games got a little more of a taste of the highest level and now it is time to give an Armitage a couple of games before the end of the year. If we don't give these guys a taste they will never get used to the speed of the AFL. The AFL game is so quick that players have to learn to make quick decisions some players have that naturally but most have to develop it over several consecutive weeks.
A lot on here seem to think because he is 24 he should be a ready made player and not be afforded the same time we will give the likes of Armo, Allen, Howard to develop players develop at different speeds. Attard is another in the same boat a rookie whose disposal at times is very average and he rarely touches the ball are we suggesting he be delisted? No because we look at him as say he is a tagger and stopping his man is his job. The only people that know the true role for CJ are the coaches and the playing group he may be doing what RL expects of him for his 4 and 5th AFL game.
I can't imagine that anyone on here would be any better than CJ in the 4th and 5th games. Give the guy another year and review what development he has made in that time. We would be stuffed as a football club is a lot on here had their views carried out on the list. Guy would be getting delisted after 1 bad game.

Don't know why we drafted him? We didn't. He is a rookie. We drafted him as one of 6 rookies onto our rookie list. Why was that? Younger kids to be used a developmental players (eg. Van Reehan) or a couple of older kids that are fit enough and built to play seniors if needed (eg. Attard, Jones). This is the first year we have actually made use of all 6 spots on our rookie list. And most people are happy that we did. Would have been pretty hard to choose a team against Hawthorn earlier in the year if we didn't have some ready made rookies on the go. The rookie list is very hit and miss, but that is the point. Grab 6 kids and see how they go. At least we have it there as back up in case we have long term injuries (and being St.Kilda.... when is that NOT going to happen?)Bono wrote:I dont know why we drafted him. I know he is quick but his only asset is his tackling (and thats when he doesnt run past the contest). He isnt an AFL player.
But if you do realize he is a rookie, and are actually questioning as to why we drafted him onto the rookie list.... geez, I'd love to see you go out into the small leagues all around Australia, beat 15 other clubs and try and find some ready made hidden talent....

Thommo was an ordinary kick, but Jones is a pathetic kick and a terrible decision-maker. Thommo cemented his spot in our best 22 in his first year. Jones has had about 3 effective kicks in his first year.

The injury has done nothing. He is playing the exact same quality of footy as he was in his first 3 games. People liked him because he looked like Riewoldt and didn't mind that he turns it over every time he touches it because we were winning when he was playing. Now that we're losing people are waking up to what a horrible player he is.
Yes.Is his disposal that much worse than Blake, X.Clarke, L.Fisher, McQualter and Thompson.

His decison-making was awful in the WAFL, but he got by because of his endurance and pace. It was still shocking after several years in the WAFL, so I dout that it will ever be acceptable in the AFL.
He isn't expected to step straight in and start dominating, but he has been playing the game his whole life and playing senior footy since he was a teenager. Of course he shouldn't be given the same amount of time as the 17 year olds that we drafted last year. These guys are straight out of playing junior/local footy and need to add a fair bit of size until they can be judged properly.A lot on here seem to think because he is 24 he should be a ready made player and not be afforded the same time we will give the likes of Armo, Allen, Howard to develop players develop at different speeds. Attard is a tagger, and therefore his disposal does not have to be brilliant. Hopefully it does improve, but he doesn't embarrass himself every time he touches the footy. Jones is an outside midfielder/half forward. The most important aspect of his game is his disposal. If CJ is in the team to add a bit of comedy for neutral viewers then he is doing his job, but if it has anything to do with positively contributing to our team then he is failing miserably.

must admit he looks lost but wasn't this kid crucial earlier this year so many posters were raving about how good he is and now he has been pissed on for not being good enough in just 2 games. Make up your minds people.
he frustrates me when he gets the ball and kicks it without looking, reminds me of what i did in under 9's

In the WAFL he cannot have been the complete hack you make out as he did well in the WAFL voting for B& F overa couple of years. Now no guarantee to make in the AFL.....but you do not poll well just because you can run quick.
Thommo by the way had several goes at being an AFL player and could well have been a Bulldog.
Luckilly for us he persevered.
