They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

Great Improvement should not be confused with the AA (Best 22)
I think McIntosh & Foley fall into this catagory. Have they been the BEST ruckman and rover or have they just improved immensely over the last season????
In actual fact I believe that this is the main reason for the so frequent rise and fall of star ruckmen. Hype. And the fact that there is such a small line between playing a star game and playing average.
Look at the names of careers that have gone from zero to hero to zero to hero etc.
Everitt
King
Ottens
White
Primus
Cox
Lade
Allan
McKernan
Only Primus has backed up the No.1 Ruck Possie over the last 10 years or so.

Foley is averaging something like 25 disposals, is #2 in the AFL for clearances, and has kicked a few goals.
IMO he is having a far superior season to Judd for example, or Dal Santo.
Fully deserves selection, and I think you will find most people have him in their All-Australian side.
McIntosh is a 50/50 ... he was leading The Age Player of the Year for the first 8 rounds, but has dropped off a little since.
IMO he and Cox are the standout ruckmen, maybe Charman is up there ...

Everitt = All-Australian 1997, 1998, 2005 + 250 games, 400 goals
King = one-year wonder
Ottens = one-year wonder, although has been excellent in 2006
White = consistent performer, solid for a number of years
Primus = All-Australian 2001, 2002
Cox = All Australian 2005, 2006 and certain 2007
Lade = great season last year at age 29, solid again this year
Allan = one-year wonder
McKernan = one outstanding season
Everitt, Cox and Primus have been the standout ruckman over the last decade, with all three consistent and performing at their best over at least three seasons.

Half back line of Shaw, Fletcher and Cornes??? The three of them all play like loose men back there and never seem to pick up an oppponent. Fletcher is the worst as most of his possessions are rubbish ones on his own. also he nearly always kicks the ball to himself when a point is scored which then gives him another rubbish possession.
Glass is a much better player than him but too many radio and TV commentators are mesmerised by the number of possessions players nowadays end up with in today's style of football and vote accordingly. Sam Fisher should get a berth before Fletcher because for the first half of the season he was outstanding back there when we were so short of regular backmen.
Roo must also be a big chance, i can't see anyone else getting in for us.

Some AA traditions...
A player will miss out because, although he's playing great footy, his team is getting flogged every week (WIll be Foley this year)
At least once Saints player we all thought with our one-eyed view was a soda for selection will miss out (S.Fisher this year)
At least 6 players will be selected in positions theyve never occupied in a real game

Don't forget, the entire backline is filled with people who float around getting easy kicks rather than genuine defenders.saint66au wrote:Some AA traditions...

The eventual AA team will not even look like a contenders lineup, let alone a dream one. When next years AFL prospectus is realeased, and their team is looked at against the AA team, it will make the AA team look like a joke. Even if they do list J Bowden as a key defender.B W and R all over wrote:Don't forget, the entire backline is filled with people who float around getting easy kicks rather than genuine defenders.saint66au wrote:Some AA traditions...

Chad Cornes hasn't played CHB all year so I'll lock him in as the player picked as the best at that position who doesn't play there.
My team was
B. Campbell Brown Matthew Scarlett Darren Milburn
HB Tarkyn Lockyer Sam Fisher Heath Shaw
C. Brent Harvey Chad Cornes Jimmy Bartel
HF. Gary Ablett Jnr Nick Riewoldt Corey Jones
F. Brad Johnson Jonathon Brown Matthew Pavlich
R. Dean Cox Daniel Kerr Simon Black
I. Chris Judd Hamish McIntosh Sam Mitchell Andrew
McLeod
Ebert, Ling, Foley all stiff to miss

Since Round 11 when he missed 3 matches, Judd has only averaged 17 disposals.
He was in good form in the first half of the year, but combined with the 3 matches he missed, and his poor second half of the year, there is NO WAY he will be All-Australian.
Heck, Leigh Montagna would be selected ahead of Judd.
