No, and those guys were too little anyway.
Plugger would have crushed them.

Not really trivia but I wanted to know the answer, and this is probably the best place.

Why didn't St Kilda play in the 1916 or 1917 seasons? but most other teams did.

Due to players on active service for world war one.

In 1916 there were only 4 sides in the comp for this reason.

Carlton, Collingwood, Fitzroy and Richmond.

Of which they played a final 4, and fitzroy won the flag from 4th, becoming the only side to win a wooden spoon and a flag in the same year

I once read that whilst there was no official pressure, there was widespread community pressure that the decent thing to do was to suspend the competition. For most clubs is was also neccessity as their core players had all been drafted.
The four clubs that played on were mostly made up of essential services personnel like policemen and firemen.

This raises two interesting questions ....

1) given there was only a tenuous link in playing personnel to before the war, the four teams being a hotch-potch of whoever was available, it essentially should invalidate the results of that year.

2) Collingwood today proclaims their "God given right" to play "their" ANZAC day game to commemorate the sacrifices at Gallipoli.
Yet back in 1916 the prevailing community opinion was that the competition should be curtailed as a mark of respect to the young men risking their lives serving their country.
Collingwood chose to reject that community feeling and try to steal a "cheap" premiership.
Yet today they bleat on about how much respect they show to the diggers.
What hypocrites !!!!

Wow Santbrat I'd forgotten about that question it was so long ago !!
I'm sure lots of people would know the answer.
But given no-one has replied .......

It was Russell Jeffrey who collided with Plugger and stuffed his knee.

And since I've answered my own question correctly I'll ask another ....

We took our current winning streak against Carlton to 8 last week.
That is our best ever streak against Carlton.

It is also now our best current streak, beating our current run of 7 wins against two other clubs.
Name those two clubs against whom we have a current streak of 7.

Yep.
MLF you are right on the money - we have won our last 7 against Richmond and University.
(Though not sure when we will play the students next).

We are also getting some nice little runs going against Collingwood (4) and Hawthorn (4).
On the negative side we have lost our last 3 against Freo and against West Coast.

If you research the history.
During the war most of the able-bodied men went to war.
The 4 teams that played on had little continuity in terms of players.
They were overwhelmingly made up of essential service workers - policemen, firemen etc.
So it effectively was another competition.
Of course it was a "Cheap" premiership.
Fitzroy finished last out of 4.
Then in a "King Island" style comp, they came through and won the flag.
No continuity, 4 teams - that's cheap.
And that is not going into the fact that the prevailing public opinion was that the comp should cease as a mark of respect to the men who were risking their lives.
Whilst they were risking their lives and creating the Australian spirit at Gallipoli, Collingwood chose to play on and try and claim a cheap premiership.
To me that just doesn't sit well when now, 90 years later they crap on as though the ANZAC legend is part of Collingwood.
Smells like Hypocrisy to me.
Smells like Collingwood.

Fraser Gehrig and Darryl Wakelin have both played more than 100 games for the Saints and more than 100 for another club.

Who were the two previous players to achieve this?

One played for the Saints first, the other came to the Saints after more than 100 games elsewhere.

Plugger was one ...

Dean Rice also played 100 with the Saints before switching to the Blues.

Well you both got one right.

Tim Pekin and Dean Rice both managed to achieve that feat.

Despite what you might think as a casual observer, Lockett played most of his career at St.Kilda and only 98 games with the swines. Shane Wakelin was also close but he only played 94 games for us.

I guess Harvey's Disciple was first.

Ok.

Robert Harvey's 2 highest disposal games which were 45 and 44 disposals (at least since 1992) came against the same side.

Which side was it, and in which 2 seasons?

ok HD we will stay on the great man harvs..

in his 347 games for the saints, Robert Harvey has managed to average over 20 disposals against every afl team.

Against which team has he averaged the most disposals per game, and against which team has he averaged the least disposals per game?

Name 5 of the seven players that wehave redrafted after delisting them.

2 are reasonably easy(since 2000).

One is currently on our list.

Four were redrafted between 1991 - 1994.

More hints as we go.
