Well the answer I found will only frustrate you even more IMO...ausfatcat wrote:this is getting me fustrated noone will manage to actually answer this I think
The only clue I found was in the book "100 years of Football"......
It states the reason we played the round with only a day break but not why..
I would love some "Saint" historian to explain why, but I I need is the reason...
Hope that makes sense ...

As I recall
It was an experiment with a morning match. It was played on the morning of the King's birthday holiday before the rest of the split round games.
The saints had booked a trip to West Australia during round 12 (I don't know why but it was approved by the VFL), so the round 12 clash was brought forward.

I don't know why either...
But from the "100 years of football book" is this....
June 13. Because of St. Kilda's proposed trip to WA in July, the round 12 St Kilda and Essendon game was brought forward to the morning of the King's Birthday holiday Monday.
I would still love to know what was the purpose of our trip to WA....
and just why did both clubs agreed to a ONE day break before playing another round...
Anyway well done "my les foote" your turn...
Please if anyone knows why or has contacts that can find out the reason, please post it on here...

He's a terrific actor - plays the part of a white woman better than Dustin Hoffman.my les foote wrote:I think we did but I wouldn't classify Michael Jackson as a current day singer and actor. I wouldn't classify Mark Jackson like that either.
And after a bit more research, it is over 10 years since Matthew Jackson played for the Saints.
Keep looking.

Not right, but interesting.
We drafted a "Rohan Smith" in 1990.
Though he actually played 3 games, and of course his famous namesake didn't play for us.

Ah yes, that would be Darryl Griffiths.
One of our best players in the 60s and wore #25.
Could have been even better but he played his whole career with a dodgy knee and frequent head injuries - the Kosi of his day !
Had a namesake in the 1988 draft - never played.

Plenty of posts recently about how good it was in 91 to finally make the finals.
But at one stage it looked like it was going to happen in the previous year - 1990.
In Round 8 we played North at Moorabbin.
We won the game, Plugger kicked 5 to take his season tally to 52 (6.5 per game), and we went to 4th spot on the ladder.
Finals here we come, and looking like 160+ goals to the fatboy.
But that game included a momentous turning point.
At one stage Plugger came out from the Nepean Hwy goals and collided with a team-mate running across his path.
I think it was a collision of legs.
He sustained damage to his knee.
In the weeks to follow the extent of the damage became apparent.
Plugger was ultimately out for 8 weeks.
We lost 6 of those games.
We slipped all the way to 9th.
He came back in R17, and played 4 games for only 13 goals.
We finished in 9th spot and would have to wait one more year to crack the finals.
So who was the team-mate "responsible" for unravelling our hopes ?
