Posted on saintational by 'ctqs ' a couple of years back was a list of Saints player numbers taken from his footy 'record' collection (also available on westofmoorabbin) - he has Bill Cannon wearing number 24 in 1976 and 47 in 1975. He has S. Watt wearing number 24 in 1975 and D. Shepherd wearing number 47 in 1976 - but the 'player numbers' list on westofmoorabbin that was referred to in this thread has David Sheppard wearing number 48 from 1976 to 1977. . . . can someone provide more info or confirm any of these records?

I dug out the footy record from his debut game against Geel at Moorabbin Round 3 Easter Monday 1976.
He was wearing number 47 and kicked 1 point - a high snapshot to the South Road end that just missed.
The Saints came from 2 goals (1.6) behind at half time to win by 20 points.
Two of my all-time heroes dominated - Cowboy kicked 5 straight and Geogie Young kicked 4.2
After a 5 day break the Saints played North at Arden St.
North won easily with Cowboy, Young and Douper amongst the goals.
David Shepherd again scored a point.
Not enough as the following week his name is missing from our stunning 31 point win over Collingwood at Moorabbin with St George kicking 6.5.
He obviously played 2 other games though I can't quickly find them.
But he is shown at 47 right throughout both 76 and 77.

Can also confirm that Bill Cannon was 24 throughout 1976
Stephen Watt
Can confirm he was # 24 in 1975.

Jeff Dunne was #48 in BOTH 1978 and 1979.
Then moved to #8 in 1980.
In 1977 WestofMoorabbin has him as #46.
However the early footy records for 1977 show Eric Clarke as #46.
Then in Round 7 Clarke disappears and newboy Maurice O'Keefe takes over #46.
Then in Round 9 O'Keefe gets promoted to #15 taking over from Joffa Cunningham who disappears (for the time being) and incidentally R. Butters (with one "s") appears at number 50 replacing Mordi Bromberg who drops off. ... and Jeff Dunn (without the "e") appears as #46.
Looks like he might have played against Essendon in Round 12 - he wasn't named in the side or as an emergency but I have his number 46 written in my record ???
But then in R14 Jeff Dunne is gone !
Anthony Beck replaces him at #46
In Round 16 Gary Cooke comes in (did he later play for Hawthorn ?)and takes over #46 - Beck disappears.
In Round 20 newboy Phillip Kallil takes over #46 and Cooke disappears.
He holds his spot till the season end though appears to change name to Callil !
At season end no sign of Dunne but Butters (still one "s") is still there.
So the list seemed to be highly volatile in those days with players trying out in the reserves and moving on.
Fortunately Dunne and Mordi and especially Joffa came back to play some good seasons later on.

What is St. Kilda's highest score, who was it against, what did they score, what year and where was the game played?
31.18 204 to 141 points against Melbourne at the MCG Round 6 1978.
It featured a massive 11.5 71 to 2.3 15 - our second best quarter EVER.
And the last quarter 8,5 53 to 6.7 43 was our best ever 4th quarter against Melbourne.
I was fortunate enough to have been there.
Again part of that special 1978 season.
Wonder if we will ever reach the 200 point milestone again ?

its definitely 21.15 141 compared to our score of 31.18 204.
Just double checked it with the 1978 footy records "Result" page (inside the back cover next to the full page Winfield add - incidentally the footy record that year each week featured a full page add for Marlboro on the back page !!!!)
A 63 point win, but not our biggest win over Melbourne.

I mentioned above that the 11.5 71 we kicked against Melb in that 2nd quarter was our second best (ie 2nd highest score) quarter ever.
So 1) What is our highest ever score in a quarter ?
2) and to balance it up what is the highest ever score kicked against us in a quarter (and I have to say this is somewhat of an embarassment) ?
and specify the opponent, year, and venue.

12.1 73 to 2.1 13 2nd quarter v Carlton Round 10 Docklands 2004
This was on our way to our record 108 point win over Carlton
It was the last game in our run of 10 wins
Our final score of 31.10 196 is our second highest score ever.
The highest ever quarter score against us was 106 points
17.4 106 to 0.0 0 last quarter v South Melbourne R12 at Albert Park 1919
South's final score was 29.15 189 and they won by 171 points (our second worst loss ever)
Perhaps a strong wind sprung up at 3/4 time, or some of our players were injured ?
Hopefully there won't be many living Saints supporters who remember this debacle.
I can remember going to a game against Footscray at the Western Oval in the late 80s/early 90s.
Got there during the 3rd quarter of the reserves.
It was quite windy and the Dogs were comfortably in front at 3/4 time and coming home with the wind.
The last quarter was an avalanche as they piled on 16 goals and over 100 points in an absolute massacre.
It was like a war zone.
But that game in 1919 must have been something else as it was generally a "low" scoring era !!

Enrico, thanx for mentioning that Footscray reserves game. I have been trying to find evidence that that quarter actually happened for a long time. Nobody else seems to remember it and finding scores for seconds games is not easy.
I remember there was a high profile player (can't remember who) playing at full back and he spent the whole quarter watching the ball fly over his head.
