Re: Last 4 National drafts
I think the young blokes just have to show a willingness to work hard and hit small achievements along the way.
Caminiti and Windy need a consistent run at senior level and need to show they can impact in 1 out of every 3 games imo.

Re: Last 4 National drafts
A real focus on high endurance in the past two drafts. I'm not fussed about picking up the mids later in the draft, rather than earlier. There have been many gun midfielders selected after pick 30 over the years and I think we'll see a good example in 2025 with Hugo Garcia
We have finally selected a ruckman of genuine quality. It's been a long rume

We are building a very specific team.

Re: Last 4 National drafts
Agree, and I believe there will probably be more delistings than the 4 you have listed. Before Tasmania come in, we need to keep hitting the draft, especially our first two picks.B.M wrote: ↑Thu 21 Nov 2024 11:13pm Honestly- next year we probably on take 3 in the draft

Unless we trade out, our second pick next year will be a 3rd rounder.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Sat 23 Nov 2024 7:27am Agree, and I believe there will probably be more delistings than the 4 you have listed. Before Tasmania come in, we need to keep hitting the draft, especially our first two picks.

Re: Last 4 National drafts
Like every year.
Fortunately the need is reducing each year. Perversely the better a side gets the easier it is to get better, "equalisation" is just an aspiration.

Re: Last 4 National drafts
In the new era it means nothing to turn over 6-8 players a year. They are commodities. There is a salary cap. It makes sense.

Re: Last 4 National drafts
We usually delist about 8 players at the end of every season, at the start of this pre-season i can't find 8 players that might be punted, at the end of the 2025 season that task might be a bit easier.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Sat 23 Nov 2024 7:27amAgree, and I believe there will probably be more delistings than the 4 you have listed. How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?
Re: Last 4 National drafts
The challenge is on every player to improve performance and contribution - and their ability to do so will instruct as to their futures
There are some coming off injury and/or had restricted seasons because of injury
Just off the top of my head, I would mention Howard and Clark who both missed the first half of the season (then became automatic selections when they became available) then Henry, King and Windhager with Cameniti missing late
It is notable (to me at least) that the returns of Howard and Clark coincided with the wins (noting that Clark was absent for our poor performance against Brisbane)
Phillipou also came back into the side late and contributed
I thought Windhager’s early form before injury was good and I am looking forward to him coming back
Then there are the kids we gave some exposure to and those yet to debut, which includes quite a few names so fingers crossed

Re: Last 4 National drafts
19 players are currently out of contract at the end of next year. Sure provides incentive for all 19 to go hard in preseason...
Also...Gives our list management team good flexibility to cull at the end of 2025. I'm always greatful to those who bled for the jumper and saddened by young players getting injuries and not being able to continue their careers.
Some are very raw still and will probably get extensions. The most important player we need to sign up right now is Nas.

Re: Last 4 National drafts
Did you know the top 20 in this year's National Draft are given 3 year contracts?
Seems that's part of the new CBA
Puts recruiters under even more pressure. You wouldn't want to be picking a dud from say pick 15-20. You're stuck with them for 3 years
