Sandy agreement
Just ignored it!
And I’m glad they did, ridiculous idea. WTF would you limit yourself to a team (particularly a s*** one!) for a list spot - which are like important
Dumb fkn idea
But then not to honour it - interesting

Re: Sandy agreement
Surely Sandy benefits more by us picking the best players in the draft who will then be developing at Sandy or pushing other AFL listed players out of the side and into Sandy?

Re: Sandy agreement
The people at Sandy would know about the "Sandy Agreement" and i would think they would know why it wasn't honoured in this draft.
Hopefully the Sandy list churn results in a more talented Sandy list, thus making the agreement more viable.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Re: Sandy agreement
What has the Sandy alliance meant for the development of our players? Not bloody much. Playing on a wind swept and toy sized ground with a bunch of low skilled players. How does that help?

Re: Sandy agreement
Should not have made the "commitment" so soon. Should have announced it and given Sandy time to do some recruiting with the lure of the list spot. Should always have been promised as starting in 2025

Re: Sandy agreement
Exactly. The commitment is a carrot to try to attract young players to compete for the spot. They need a few young guys in the system competing against each other, not maybe one who on a good day might be on the fringe of an AFL list.mad saint guy wrote: ↑Mon 25 Nov 2024 9:19am Should not have made the "commitment" so soon. Re: Sandy agreement
Is there a rule that says we have to recruit someone or it more a case of the carrot is there?

Re: Sandy agreement
The comments across Sandy and VFL social pages about this supposed “betrayal” is ridiculous. The non-AFL players at sandy were all terrible last season.
Based on the several games I went to over the year, most of the non listed guys running around would struggle at Div 1 local level. Good on the club for not giving any free spots out,

Re: Sandy agreement
Could not agree more. I really hope members push the break up of this alliance more at the next AGM. It has been floated in recent years but we really need to do everything we can f*** Sandy off.
They are the poorest run VFL club by the length of the Flemington straight, never attract any decent non listed talent (which is laughable given the catchment area) and they have terrible facilities.

Re: Sandy agreement
A devils advocate argument might be that having to do it tough in your apprenticeship makes for mentally tougher resilient players. Werribee and Southport have been top VFL sides for a while, not sure they are factories churning out VFL listed players. Werribee has had a couple of mature age draftees in last few years, Southport?

Re: Sandy agreement
Can Cole or Peckett get a call up now Crouch has officially retired?
This would honour the deal.
Is there still a train on supplementary list?
Or are lists now done?

That can be used as a train-on supplemental or held back for the mid season rookie draft.
They could give that to Cole, Peckett or a Sandringham player or someone else they like the look of.
I would be making who ever iti s earn by training well in the pre-season.

Re: Sandy agreement
Let's hope nobody notices we didn't pick up anybody and the whole idea is consigned to the dustbin of history (and really bad ideas).
