Do we need another Key Forward
Caminiti a possibility to play in defence?
Tauru will be developed imo a bit like Nate Caddy was
A bit of time in the VFL - also like Arie last season
A lot harder for talls to come straight in and impact - in a key position
King is obviously the Power Forward - he is prone to injury
We have hybrids
Owens, Sharman
Who are general forwards nor than key forwards?
Who are the key forwards at Sandy
Keeler is a forward-ruck
We have lost Membrey (AFL) and Allison (VFL) as key forwards
The 10 best left on the board
Mids
Moraes, Gross, Davis
Tall Forwards
Shanahan, Whitlock, Gerreyn, Sims
Ruck
Dodson
Key Defenders
Mraz, Barratt
My guess
28 Rich Alex Dodson
29 WB Christian Moraes
30 WCE Hamish Davies/Jack Whitlock
31 WB Tom Gross
32 StK Jobe Shanahan
I’d expect Bids come in the 40s or 50s for Hoffman and Cole
And I do think we will take Boyd from the SANFL with the last pick
Which means
Of 6 selections in the ND we will have taken zero mids
But
In the trade period we brought in a starting mid
We signed Jack Carroll as a DFA
And could sign Elwood Peckett as a Rookie
Max Hall will have a pre season under his belt
Hopefully Clark, Jones and Dow won’t be fked by injury during the pre season like last year
Not sure wtf is going on with Crouch

Re: Do we need another Key Forward
Unless there's a mid we rate highly, I'd have no problem pick another key forward. If Shanahan is available I'd take him.
Genuine key forwards are the hardest thing to find. To put an extra one on your list is a good idea.
There's been talk of Caminiti going to CHB. If that's the plan, then picking Shanahan seems a really good idea

Re: Do we need another Key Forward
I'm not convinced Hammer makes it yet, averaging a goal a game basically so needs to have a big year coming up. So adding some more potential there is top of the list I think.

Re: Do we need another Key Forward
He is only 20yo though. Yes, he is raw and come from a long way back. But he’s a powerful lad who’s shown glimpses
I’m keen to see if he can play a bit at CHB

Re: Do we need another Key Forward
He has only kicked more than two goals in a game once in 33 games.
I hope he does make it (like I hope everyone in a Saints guernsey does), just based on the last couple of seasons he will be at or over 50 games by the end of the year. Not many players get 50 games to find their feet so like I said, he needs to have a big year.

Re: Do we need another Key Forward
I will defer to your knowledge of kpp who hadn't debuted by 20/21 (which he turns in 2 weeks). Care to name a few from the modern era because I can't think of any who ended up making it.

Re: Do we need another Key Forward
Harry debuted at 19. And he was a high draft pick who was only stopped from playing earlier because of injury. And even early he was averaging an extra half a goal or game.
He was already a at a level above Caminiti when he debuted. Proves my point that Hammer isn't going to get a lot more chances, especially with the new kids coming through looking to take his spot.

Re: Do we need another Key Forward
Which kid takes his spot?
Mackay at the same age had played 13 games
Was a high DP and Carlton were a rebuilding team
But point is, he wasn’t a huge amount ahead of Caminiti

Re: Do we need another Key Forward
Yeah, he didn't debut older than Caminiti is now, that's what I said.
I don't understand what you are arguing about BM.
Your OP has him playing back, so unless you are expecting us to play one short in the forward line someone is taking his spot.
In another thread you have him on a list of players who need to have a big year, and that was all I said in my post.
Maybe go argue with yourself over in that thread over if the Hammer needs a big year?

Hawkins only 66 goals in his first 50 games, like yourself I hope Hammer gets there.St Dave wrote: ↑Thu 21 Nov 2024 7:18pmHe has only kicked more than two goals in a game once in 33 games.

Quality person, I'd love to see him start busting packs up and hurting blokes.

Re: Do we need another Key Forward
No
Caminiti should be kicking 50 goals per year at 20
Dave is right!
He does need a good year, as he is a 21yo on a rookie list, but I think what he’s produced as a 19/20 yo as a power forward has been very encouraging
I still have him at CHB
My team
B: Wilkie - Howard - Webster
HB: NWM - Caminiti - Sinclair
C: Wood - Macrae - Hill
HF: Henry - Sharman - Owens
F: Higgins - King - Butler
Foll: Marshall - Phillipou - Steele
Int: Wilson - Clark - Travaglia - Keeler
Sub: Windhager
Emerg: Schoenmaker - Dow - Carroll

Lad has hardly had a good chance to be consistent. Given bit parts and had injuries.
Injury free and Battle gone = opportunity.

Re: Do we need another Key Forward
I don't know where you got 50 goals from, I would be happy with maybe a goal and a half average per game and go from there. It might be a radical opinion, but I think our second tall forward needs to be kicking more than a goal a game if we are going to progress up the ladder.B.M wrote: ↑Fri 22 Nov 2024 5:13pm No

Maybe instead of bringing your poor reading comprehension and arguing with me over things I didn't say, maybe go after this guy who said basically a quarter of the team needs to have a big year, including Hammer!

Re: Do we need another Key Forward
Most of those are out of contract - and need to either improve or get on the park
Most of them can - they are mostly young
Yes, I want our Key Forwards to average more goals - perhaps not if they are 19/20 though.

I'm glad you are finally in agreement with me and your prior self that we want our players improving.

Re: Do we need another Key Forward
Don’t players generally do that from 18-21yo?!
I’m not being critical that he hasn’t produced enough as a teenager/20yo
He was also injured last pre season
As I said, he’s shown glimpses- which is what I look for from drafted in their first two seasons

Re: Do we need another Key Forward
Lol how is this still going? I said the same thing as you. You are arguing with yourself...
You said he needs a big year, I said he needs a big year.
I never said his past production wasn't good enough (again with the comprehension), just that he needs to improve from his consistent 1 goal/game, you said the same thing "Yes, I want our Key Forwards to average more goals".
I admit it is funny though, but it would be funniest if you stepped in and played yourself from the other thread, so maybe just go and do that.

Re: Do we need another Key Forward
Im pretty sure Caminiti will stay forward. He is developing.
His best ever game was the last one he played, with 15 possessions, 8 marks and 3 goals.
That is a good effort for a 20 year old KPF.

Re: Do we need another Key Forward
Do we need another Key Forward might be debatable, but, the club didn't think we needed one.
Defenders, mids and a ruck were our needs, apparently, for season 2025.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?
