Weird feeling. Can’t say I was obviously bothered he was cut… but now that the swans have rookied him I found myself second guessing that decision

Same mould as Byrnes. Honest enough just a poor decision maker.

Paton was a good user of the ball

We just preferred to keep Webster, Stocker and McLennan as small backs

I think Stocker has much more growth in him.
I will give him till the bye to see whether he's improved a lot- if he hasn't, I think he'll be in Sandy a lot, unless injuries get him back in.
He's currently not quite best 23, but Paton was always behind him

Prior to the leg break I think Paton was tracking along nicely and he was filling in the spot left vacant by Geary. It's a specialist role being a lock down defender.

I think Ben was holding down that position well ...until the incident with Roughead

I think your closed mind can't see beyond whatever judgement you made on Ryan early in his development. I reckon Byrnes will continue to make you look silly

Stocker probably has more strings

Being able to run through the middle as a defensive mid or play as a higher defender

Byrnes strikes me as the perfect choice for the small, lock down defender role. He has the pace, endurance and discipline required.

He improved significantly this year and I think RTB is a fan of his style. The man to take Paton's spot, whose promising career at Moorabbin was ended by the cuckoo from Hawthorn., who also helped to steal Battle. Good luck at the Swines, Ben, just not against us.

Both can’t kick and are poor decision makers with not much penetration to their kicks.

Byrnes has fans, also detractors- the latter claim he's inaccurate, headless chook, etc.
Dropped to VFL for some games mid-year, then got back to seniors so obviously made coaches happy.
Contrast that with Bonner who got hundreds of metres gained thru the year, and was delisted.
One day, Byrnes will walk up to a wooden stand in the middle of the G, shake hands with a kid, and accept a medal

His kicks just ballooned and put his team mate under pressure

Why?

He’s still the same player.

Sounds like FOMO. :D

Yeah, he was NDS.

Wasn’t atrocious but not great either to help with quick ball movement.

How do you not know this?

Solid, honest player, had some sticky hands but just didnt release quickly or accurately enough...sadly, had his wing clipped by a jackass.
Best of luck

His only faults were he was a tad slow & his decisions moving the ball were a bit delayed and it could hurt us. IMHO he didn't fail to kick or handball effeciently, he just seemed to not move the ball quick enough.

He easily could've stayed on but Stocker is 20% better and that's enough...actually alot in many situations.
