I've got a bit of faith still, the Garcia move last year gives me some confidence.TheGreatZacsby wrote: ↑Thu 21 Nov 2024 7:36pm James Barrat??????

5 Defenders and a speculative Rookie Mid. Boris has got his work cut out for him.

The upside is that both Howard and Wilke will be 29 by the beginning of next season so our defensive stocks should be right when these boys finish up.

Re: WHAT THE FRAESER GEHRIG HAVE WE DONE?
Strange pick
Barrat really came on in the second half of the season as a defender. He's slightly undersized to play as a genuine key defender, which is preventing him from garnering top 30 consideration despite impressive performances as a lockdown back and tagging midfielder. He went head to head with Harvey Langford against the Stingrays and held his own on-ball to show his versatility. Barrat is strong, aggressive, and physical.

I'm starting to understand the pick now. Bloke kicked 15.18 across 6 games and then dominated as a key back, and tagged Harvey Langford in the wildcard round. For context, he spent half that game as a Conor Nash style midfielder, played 3rd quarter as a key forward, then went back into defence for the 4th. Seems like a really strong utility. Hopefully ends up being another 2nd round Dalrymple masterclass.chook23 wrote: ↑Thu 21 Nov 2024 7:54pm Strange pick

Can’t knock the kids selected as I don’t know enough about them, but we are obviously very confident in landing a big fish midfielder (or two) at the end of 2025.

I was pumped with the Barratt pick. Looks a gun to me and I was hoping we take him, not that I am an expert...

tony75 posted on here, about 5 Apr, that 2025 we'd have plenty of loot, and we'll chase 'LDU plus plus' (his words)

Re: WHAT THE FRAESER GEHRIG HAVE WE DONE?
I’d like to make one final comment on the 2024 AFL draft.
There were six premium mids in this year’s draft who were head and shoulders above every other pure midfielder.
We had pick 7 and 8. Unless there was a slider we were never in the race. Carlton traded up to get pick 3. But it cost them the farm. Maybe it was a genius move, maybe not. Time will tell.
Once that trade was made all bets were off. In a quality draft like this one, no club was going to forfeit their prized pick.
So we were left with next best available. And what a pair they are.
Many here are saying Travaglia is not a pure mid. So what? He wants to be. In the limited game time he’s had as a mid he succeeded. In fact in every position he’s played be it forward or back he’s succeeded. This kid brings something special because he is special. Don’t take my word read what’s been said about him. Look at the video. Huge upside, he could be anything they say. He’s got X factor they say. Young Alix is the same.
No one can ever predict how draft recruits will turn out. Some of the biggest certainties became the biggest busts.
A lot of clubs were chasing the two we nabbed. You just never know but it’s going to be exciting to find out.

Re: WHAT THE FRAESER GEHRIG HAVE WE DONE?
I’m pumped and think we’ll be contenders by 2026. Keep ’em coming through. Call me a wild optimist, but I haven’t felt this good about the club’s direction since late 2003.
