Preparing for the monster meltdown
The big day has arrived and for most of us it's a combination of apprehension, fear, uncertainty, and dread mixed with a pinch of excitement.
Whatever happens tonight there will be some seriously ugly tantrums on here. There will be a long thread filled with copied text between antagonists, a seemingly endless back and forth of vitriol and disagreement, and one or two who will say "Well done Saints"
For me......well.....as anxious as I have been about us getting the best players into our club, I've decided that it's pointless because I can't control the outcome, so whatever happens, happens.
We have a solid hand to play, and that is a good starting point. I'd rather have 7 & 8 than 7 and 27

True.
A few things:
1) There will be some surprises; there always are.
2) Whatever happens, no one knows how the future will pan out. There are just too many variables.

We've nailed our last 3 FRDP in NWM, Pou & Wilson.cwrcyn wrote: ↑Wed 20 Nov 2024 9:28am The big day has arrived and for most of us it's a combination of apprehension, fear, uncertainty, and dread mixed with a pinch of excitement.

After trading out of the first round spasmodically over the last few years, I'm pleased and excited that we now have a strategy of taking our FRDP to the draft.
I'm hoping we don't split #8 and get two gun young players with those picks.
I hope they're mids, but don't care as long as they are rated best talent available at that selection.
You normally get a slider who is a top 3 or 4 candidate (in media & mock drafts etc) slide to 7 or 8 so fingers crossed.

Best player available is the key.

I’m worried that there is a power battle going on with Misson and dryrimble about trading 8 into something more … i rather while we have the chance grab what is best available for 7-8 , it could set up up for next 10 years … and we have a history of screwing our shelves in the past seeing who’s got the bigger dick , us supporters don’t care we just want success.

Re: Preparing for the monster meltdown
There’s 10 guys that would be considered “good selections” at pick 8. The players ranked 8-18 (excluding Kako and Lombard) are near identical in potential and perceived draft value. That is to say I don’t think you could objectively make the case that any one is better than another.seano1 wrote: ↑Wed 20 Nov 2024 10:59am I’m worried that there is a power battle going on with Misson and dryrimble about trading 8 into something more … i rather while we have the chance grab what is best available for 7-8 , it could set up up for next 10 years … and we have a history of screwing our shelves in the past seeing who’s got the bigger dick , us supporters don’t care we just want success.
Wouldn’t you rather nab 2 of these guys by splitting 8 then taking just 8?

Re: Preparing for the monster meltdown
It would appear obvious that St Kilda will take the best mid with their first pick. The next pick may be determined on who is left on the table - if it's not what Dalrymple & Co are after, then it's likely they will try and do a deal with GWS swapping 8 for 15,16.Brunswicksainter wrote: ↑Wed 20 Nov 2024 11:42amThere’s 10 guys that would be considered “good selections” at pick 8. Misson has also left the door open to offering St Kilda's future FRDP to snare a player they are keen to bring onboard tonight.
Richmond may well be prepared to let one of their many early picks go in exchange for a future first or second rounder.
I'm not apprehensive, just quietly confident that the club will achieve their objective to bring elite talent to Moorabbin, and build on the momentum of the last 6 games in 2024.

Exciting isn't it.
Imagine how the draft nominees feel.
Good luck everyone.

Re: Preparing for the monster meltdown
As long as the top picks are any of the best top 10-12 I'll be fine. Even if we take Armstrong and Tauru I won't melt. We will be getting 2 of the best kids in a great draft.
Will come down to development after that

Re: Preparing for the monster meltdown
We shot ourselves in the foot by beating Carlton
Dalrymple and Gubby have been royally screwed by that late goal in the dying seconds to Higgins.
It's out of their control if Richmond, Melbourne and Carlton take our first choice mids

Re: Preparing for the monster meltdown
How many are we taking?
I love what ESPN has us doing but it’s not going to happen
Turn 8 & 47 into 15/16/21
I’d even thrown in next years second rounder
That’d give us 5 inside 32

Re: Preparing for the monster meltdown
The only thing we can really judge is the pick trading. Hopefully we can do some good deals.
We won't know how good the players are until mid way through next year, at the earliest.

Re: Preparing for the monster meltdown
I think they almost definitely won’t be. If Tarau is not selected before us Travaglia is as good as picked with 7.
Way too much smoke around this selection. The club has clearly signalled to agents and the media he is our preference.
With our next pick Bo Allen presents as the only possible pure mid we can pick. I doubt we go him though given the go home factor.
More likely than not we don’t take pure mids with our first round selections unfortunately. So get ready to rage
I’m praying someone goes Tarau in the first 6.

Well decent establishments offer good quality gourmet options like Morton Bay Bug Sliders or premium beef.
I also wont eat a full burger but enjoy the bite size taste.
I'm guessing you're an old school fish and chip shop burger with the lot style guy Curly.
