The bulls*** of yeah, he will transition into a mid is rubbish

90% of mids are drafted mids

50% of drafted flankers were u18 mids

Travaglia is a running back we have them and we need a midfield
Tauru is a 3rd tall back

Beware the bolter (especially one pumped up by the media)
I don't mind Tauru, but not keen on Travaglia.

I hope we are trying to get up in the order to North's second if we honestly think they're not taking Tauru and leaving us a top mid.

Pick 7 and F1 for Pick 2 and late pick
Take Draper and Pick 8 can be split

Isn't standard practice to take best available? Do we do that even if we need mids?

Why would you take Draper with pick 2

That Appears to be our position

'Best available'

Through our process or opinion

According to Misson interview today

Part of that process was the push by Dalrymple to pick best available

He would have some intel on travaglia for sure, we’ll be picking him. I still think north would be crazy not to trade down to select Tauru.
Yeah he is normally spot on so have to hope he is off on this one for some reason. Fox footy also have us taking Travaglia so that is interesting.

Interesting David Mission was on today's Gettable and said basically we will take best available and if they are mids we will be happy. Leaves the door open for no mids I guess.

I don't know much about them, but our NGAs Cole and Hoffman are both defenders. I would think if we do end up taking a back or two at the pointy end we would let's these guys go instead of matching, but imagine if we took 4 defenders across the draft.

Travaglia is not seen as only a defender
because of his running ability
Wing and midfield (os)

running machine who can play just about anywhere on the ground, Travaglia has risen up draft boards as the year has gone on.

BIO (part of it)
Tauru has played as a forward throughout his junior years and he showcased matchwinning traits in the attacking arc at the back-end of the season, including 22 disposals and two goals in the Power’s last match. Don’t be surprised if he is taken inside the few selections on draft night given his enormous upside.

The more you look at the situation and recent comments by the north list boss, it seems very unlikely we will get any of the top 7 crop of mids. I hope we split at least one of our picks if that’s the case as I think there’s at least 10 guys that I would be happy picking at 8 and 9.

We really need a top mid, we should be doing what we can to get at least one.
We have 7,8,32 and a full hand of futures.

Carlton got creative and now have pick 3 from nowhere.
We need to make some moves. Another B plus player isn't going to improve us, we need stars.

Thank you for restoring a bit of sanity to this thread. Both these guys can play anywhere and have huge potential. Great readers of the game and not afraid to mix it up with bigger bodies. Versatility is everything in the modern game.

Reaction to Cal Twomey mock draft

St Kilda fans are "absolutely losing their minds" on social media, Riley says, but Cal says they needn't worry. Tobie Travaglia shapes as a midfielder in time, while Tauru "could be anything". "What number was Charlie Curnow back in his draft? There's some similarities about their prospects and power in the air, in particular."

Appreciate the extra info, I was just going off the AFL site where they are listed as a Defender/Tall Defender (that is not Defender/Midfielder like others eg Bo Allan). You have talked me up from what I thought was a 0% chance for sure.

I am not against versatility generally, maybe like BM I am just a bit wary of trying to fit square pegs into round holes given our recent attempts at it. Especially when or recent picks like Pou and Wilson have been mids playing mid and having an impact. Mostly though I would just find it funny given the consensus everywhere is that we need mids (including from David Mission), the thought that we could then take 4 defenders.

would be interested to here what people's ideal realistic draft scenario is.

For me:

Pick 7 - on the best available mid, whether that smilie, smith, langford ect... (very unlikely we will get any of these). I think its almost a certainty we take Travaglia with this pick.

Pick 8 - I really hope we are able to trade this to the tigers or GWS, Then look to bring in two of Trainor, Reid, Hynes, Armstrong, Faull, Hotton, Lindsey or Dettoli.

We are in really awkward position re availability of the top mids ....Will be an interesting night

No doubt we have numerous scenarios depending on what happens with picks 1-6

Is Murphy Reid one of the top mids or not.
I've seen him rated as the best football brain in the draft down to a second round also-ran.

I've seen him highly rated for his speed, and also that he's too slow.

I've only been following commentary and not actually seen any players play, but I think you'll be on the money with this one.

We will have a "top 8" list where we just take that pick down the order, and hope that a club takes a pick from outside of it.

Expect our picks to be slow, to give us time to facilitate the live trades.

Yeah absolutely. I would love to be a fly on the wall just seeing what teams have planned out and how they look to shift around depending on who gets picked where.

I only watched some of the national champs games including the final on Kayo. The players that really stood out to me were Trainor, Langford, Lindsey, Reid and Armstrong.

I'm concerned about not taking a mid, however if all the good ones are gone and what's left is similar to what we already have. Then what do you do?

I don't think Tauru will still be there by our first pick. hopefully that'll leave at least one of the good mids for us.

Apparently it bats deep.
The 10 aren’t necessarily A++ stars, but maybe A graders.
The top 30 could also be quite good. Lots of options for all types.

My draft preference remains the same.
We don't beat Carlton by two points for a meaningless end of season win.
Consequently we get two of best midfielders out of
Sam Lalor
Finn O'Sullivan
Jagga Smith
Sid Draper
Harvey Langford
Josh Smillie

But we did beat Carlllllllton so we realistically don't get any of those players you've listed, instead, we get players similar to the
last time we had picks 7 and 8.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

The Travaglia family are really keen Carlton supporters. Still that doesn't matter as much as taking a player from the West where they might want to return home.
It's going to be a very interesting couple of days.

Did they though? They have a number of highly rated NGA players and a F/S (projected to be pick 1) coming through in the next two drafts.

I think they weighed this up and made a calculated decision that they could afford to trade up in light of the above.

They also managed to trade assets that they deemed to be surplus (Kennedy) to buy back into the second round.

Hoping we realise the depth of the draft and move 32 into the 20’s.
