Couldn't get drafted into the Vietnam war because Daddy paid off a doctor to write a letter saying he had bone spurs. Wow so brave!

Then doubled down, by mocking blokes who didn't dodge the draft, went off, and ended up as prisoners of war.magnifisaint wrote: ↑Thu 14 Nov 2024 6:51pmCouldn't get drafted into the Vietnam war because Daddy paid off a doctor to write a letter saying he had bone spurs. Wow so brave!
Diaper Don. The man is all class crass.
To be fair though, he had to feign something like plantar fasciitis to escape going to Vietnam. Could have used incontenence to get out, but, well, I can see why he needed to come up with another reason.
So yep, to all those who say that the bloke is full of shyte. Well, technically, that's not totally true. Some of it leaks out.
And still trying to be fair. The whole Diaper Don thing could be a furphy. I mean, one of the sources that reported it is Sky News...

Back to recruting Barron Trump, and the possible 'political advantages'...
Nope. Not into this one. He's from the wrong mob.
We want a Democrat! We need their tech' for directing hurricanes.
Then, we play as many matches as possible away from Dockedlands. And the matches played there, the roof is open.
We'll be kicking with the hurricane wind behind us every quarter.

Re: Rookie Ruckman We Are Into
Barron Trump would need to spend a season at Sandy, and that's a long commute from NYC. I think we need to get Musk in as number one ticket holder, and pay off our depts, but he would want to coach the team as well, though probably would just recruit a bunch of half back flankersDave McNamara wrote: ↑Thu 14 Nov 2024 7:17pm Back to recruting Barron Trump, and the possible 'political advantages'...

We have had Trump front and centre in the media (including in Australia!!) for the last 10 years and now for another 4 whilst we see what transpires - he is a disrupter, focussed on a transaction which provides advantage to him and thrives on publicity which leads to unpredictable and the resultant headline
And now he is on this site!!
Those more learned than me are predicting another GFC based on the unwinding of regulation and tax cuts funded by budget deficits
Then trade wars and the depreciation of the USD to attract markets for their goods and services
The only control will come from Share Markets and the Bond Markets because he now controls both houses and the judiciary

Re: Rookie Ruckman We Are Into
Harry Boyd, if he does come to Moorabbin, is not expected to play first ruck.
He could be like Mark Blicavs (198 cm) or Hayden McLean (197 cm) who both play ruck/forward for Geelong and Sydney respectively.
The club will be hoping that in a couple of years time Max Heath will be the tall tap ruckman the team needs.

Re: Rookie Ruckman We Are Into
If they only get interchanged with each other that means Row might be on the bench for long periods of the time and not around the ground forward or back when needed.
Maybe we have 5 interchange and still have the sub out of the emergency's so only 2 emergency's needed same amount of players.
With 5 interchange players clubs would be more inclined to play a second ruck as they would be able to play 4 other type of player and with the sub still have the flexibility to do that.
Also if a team has a few injury's and players are out of game and sub has been used they should be able to come back into the game if the sub is not injured and was only a fit player that would allow teams not to keep injured players on the ground more and still have coverage on the ground.
This would have to be cleared by the AFL doctor at the ground.

Re: Rookie Ruckman We Are Into
Thought the saints were into a WAFL Ruckman Lachlan Blakiston. he is 204cm got 61 and 57 hit outs in 1 game and at his height is the best ruckman in the WAFL. Might be a better option as we have already talked to him.
Geelong are also interested in him so must be ok for more then 1 club looking.
Could rookie list him with a pick in the 80s

I read the club was interested in Lachlan Blakiston, a 204 cm Ruckman from WA.
Who knows until their names are read out over the 3 days/nights of draft selection gatherings.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

He simply cant be used any where else but the ruck, he isnt a strong mark or quick enough to play forward or back. He is a ruckman and thats it.Sanctorum wrote: ↑Fri 15 Nov 2024 12:56pmHarry Boyd, if he does come to Moorabbin, is not expected to play first ruck.

Re: Rookie Ruckman We Are Into
I continue to have a little knowledge of what is transpiring at The Parade - hence my assessment of Boyd I have contributed to this site
The size referred to is the fact, at 198cm and able to bullock including taking possession at ruck contests aka Marshall - in the SANFL where he rucks hence Van Wyke, a kid with talent who dominated in the Seconds, did not get a look in because with Harry it is rucking or nothing and now gone to North Adelaide (noting Boyd is the MM and Club B&F - so he does what he does very well)
There would be an ability to have he and Marshall on the ground, Marshall the variable because you would not be deploying Harry forward As he confided after a BOG performance at The Parade on a wet day “the ball was where I was” and that tongue in cheek comment was telling
Mobile apart from being where the ball is Harry is not - and his body size sees his performances for Norwood
Rawlings (now with Fremantle, replaced by Sheedy) and Bassett (now with Melbourne) did not tap into any flexibility Harry had to play forward hence play he and Van Wyke - simply if Van Wyke was on the ground Harry was on the bench and that was not going to happen (noting the tall armoury in the Norwood forward line including the kid who did his knee in the opening minutes of the Grand Final, the side also losing a key mid early and the game late by 5 points as they ran out of resources)

Re: Rookie Ruckman We Are Into
And in the Grand Final, at Adelaide Oval, Harry was generally ineffective with 7 kicks, 6 handballs, no marks (and a goal)
He had 39 hit outs, and that was his value

Doesn't sound like the kind of guy we need - even as a back up ruck.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:

St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Rookie Ruckman We Are Into
Remember Paul Hunter, a former SANFL team of the year member. Wonder where Paul is playing now.
Re: Rookie Ruckman We Are Into
Van Wyk by comparison is 20 years of age, 202cm and 113kgs - has skills and mobility (never having played at League level because of the availability of Boyd)
In the Seconds Grand Final, won by Norwood, he had 5 kicks, 11 handballs, 2 marks, 3 tackles and 16 hit outs in a low scoring slugfest
I do not know if he has nominated for the Draft but it seems that every man and his dog does so I imagine he has nominated
From my info he would be a better option than Harry either as a late Draft Pick or on the Rookie List

Re: Rookie Ruckman We Are Into
On further investigation, I would have thought that if Boyd had won this years award for best player in the SANFL, would not that indicate he was more than just a tap ruckman?
Apparently he averaged 21 disposals, 10 clearances, four tackles and 41 hit outs across his 18 matches for Norwood in 2024:
https://norwoodfc.com.au/teams/players/ ... eason=2024
That puts a totally different slant on this story.....

Re: Rookie Ruckman We Are Into
There's a huge difference between SANFL and AFL. If he's slow and lumbering I'm not sure how he makes it.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.
Re: Rookie Ruckman We Are Into
Boyd’s stats were indeed elite - acknowledged by the awards he won for his 2024 season
But ……
He wins the ball at ball ups because with his size he cannot be moved, putting the opposition ruck off balance and grabbing the ball from the contest (every contest)
Noting the number of frees against he concedes because of that contact
Harry does not jump - he has no need to
The point I make with Norwood is the impediment to Van Wyk (transferring to North Adelaide this off season), Van Wyk not rewarded with League selection because Norwood had sufficient talls forward (until one went down on the first minutes of the Grand Final) hence Van Wyk, if selected, would have rucked with Harry in a situation where you could not have them both on the ground at the same time - and given Harry’s performances he was never going to sit on the pine whilst Van Wyk rucked
The views I give are from personal observations and from Club inputs back in Adelaide
In a wider question, so not Norwood centric, there are no rucks at SANFL level you would look at - hence Van Wyk as a Seconds player in focus and known, having played at the same Club as Harry
The fact that Harry dominated ruck contests as he did is the audit on this opinion and the assessments
