Re: Mock Draft
If all of the other top mids are gone by our second pick like they were on this scenario, I am open to swapping the pick 8 with gws for 15&16 like you did.
This selections would certainly make our mid to forward line a lot more dynamic. Hopefully it would solve our forward 50 entries issues.

Re: Mock Draft
I'm hoping Tauru or Armstrong are taken earlier than our pick so we get a sliding midfielder.
Smilie.and Reid would be good

Re: Mock Draft
If any tall is taken inside of our first selection - I would not pick swap
But that is unlikely
There is a clear top 8

Re: Mock Draft
To me, Murphy Reid is the best player in the draft. I'd be stunned if he made it past pick 5

Re: Mock Draft
I spoke to a recruiter about Cody Anderson, he’s a bull and tough as f*** and ready to play, if but concerns he is fully developed (man child syndrome) and is a poor kick.

Re: Mock Draft
Ill be surprised if Anderson gets picked up at all, I hardly think we need another slow inside mid.

Re: Mock Draft
Other slow man child mids
James Worpal - pick 45
Luke Parker - pick 40
Matt Crouch - pick 28
All 3 have won AFL best and Fairests
But I agree - I would only take him very late

Re: Mock Draft
If our men do as well as the last couple of years, not only will all be fine, some commentators are going to have to lose the tired tropes depicting a bygone age, as much as it will mean actual analysis and work v rehashing negative bias.

Re: Mock Draft
I don't know who we pick up but I feel a lot more confident seeing the past few years draft choices. Darcy Wilson was such a steal for me last year.
I feel with a couple of good draft choices, we are a chance to win quite a few more games. My optimism is still there after following the Saints for over 50 years.

Re: Mock Draft
It's a pity we won that last game. Picks 5 & 6 would have guaranteed us two topline midfielders. As it stands now it's most likely we'll get only one.
I'm hoping that at least one key position player gets picked up in the first 6. It would be an enormous benefit to us. The only clubs who are likely to do that are North Melbourne at pick 2 or Richmond at pick 6, more likely Richmond, as it'll be their 2nd pick.
Trading to get higher is going to be unlikely. Those with the first 5 picks would be either unwilling or unable to do pick swaps with the talent that's available to them. Only Richmond at pick 6 I see as a possibility with us giving 7 & 8 to Richmond for 6 & 10
My guess is we'll stick with 7 & 8. GWS might come knocking for pick 8 by dangling 15 & 16 in front of us. It could be tempting but it all depends who's there for us at pick 8.
With our dire need for elite midfield talent, I'm disappointed that we'll only catch the tail end of that group rather than being in the middle of it.
Dalrymple has much thinking to do

Re: Mock Draft
I wouldn’t trade pick 8 (which will be pick 9) until draft night
If all 8 mids are gone
Then I’d hit up GWS 15/16 or Richmond 11 & 20

Re: Mock Draft
That would be a disaster
A HB and a tall forward
How does that ‘build out our midfield’ as Ross keeps banging on about

Re: Mock Draft
Its interesting, but I don't know how much I would rate that from our perspective at least.
He does have no-one above us taking a key fwd/back which I think is the only way we don't take two mids, however then we take Allan out of the box (as an example ESPN projects him at 13 and Cal Twomey's October firm guide has him 12th overall) and let Reid slip?
For some reason he has us taking our NGA guys with natural picks too? Surely the whole point is to leave them on the table and just match picks to effectively double up.

Don't know much about Nathan Sepe from SEN

Re: Mock Draft
Will we, or can we wait until we've had our pick at 7 before splitting pick 8 in a live trade? Asking for a friend.

Re: Mock Draft
There seems to be a bit of scuttlebutt that we'll do one or the other, depending on who we get at 7. The latter seems ideal, although the former would be very handy. Three first rounders. Either way, yum yum! Just do it!

Re: Mock Draft
If we draft a half back and a tall forward then everyone from the boot studder to the president should resign in disgrace...

He ran a 3.02 in the 20m sprint. As a tough, defensive, inside mid, that's actually pretty handy.SteeleSaints wrote: ↑Sun 20 Oct 2024 10:08amIll be surprised if Anderson gets picked up at all, I hardly think we need another slow inside mid.

Re: Mock Draft
I’ve said this from the start.
Send Pick 7 and our F1 to North for a quality mid. Guarantee FOS / Draper / Smith / Langford.
Split Pick 8 for GWS 15/16 and grab best available.
That’s how you do Draft Night.
