Developing a Saintsational Honour / Memorial Thread

Post: # 2082118Post skeptic »

Hi everyone,

You may recall sometime back that the idea of a Saintsational Honour Roll / Memorial Thread surfaced following the passing the late/great ASIU/Gazrat.
I hope that this isn’t the first you’re hearing of this… apologies if so, here’s the thread

https://www.saintsational.net/viewtopic ... d#p2077612

This idea appears to have resonated with a lot of forumites and many have reached out with ideas/suggestions of what it may look like. So much so that I’m wanting to move on it in the coming weeks.

The most commonly raised suggestions included identifying the forumites that we wish to honour, post their forum stats, avatar if possible, have posts eulogising them (anecdotes etc), assemble a collection of their greatest hits/posts etc.

And in this context I’m seeking a bit of help. Am quite happy to work at trying to put this all together but I’m very aware that others here are much more connected to the social side of things… hence if there are those out there close to the people that we’re honouring and would like to run point on some of these entries, I would really welcome the input and assistance.

As a starting point, I’d love to take some nominations as to who to honour (ASIU and Eastern come to mind… St. Fedelius I think, am hesitant to name others in case I’m wrong)… whether we do this as an annual thing or just work on it gradually.

If people have other ideas as well, this is a work in progress so please feel free to contribute. Post here or PM is fine.

Finally, I just want to add… I feel very passionate about this idea as SS is its own little, enduring community that’s been around for 25+ years at this point and that’s something to be both celebrated and respected. I hope that this is a small step towards that.

Thanks for reading and please contribute :)

Good idea ‘skeptic’. There was Noddy from South Australia ( I think he was noddy04) . He used to regularly come over from South Australia and sit with the cheer squad, plus he looked after S/s members when they went to SA. Noddy was a regular contributor to this site. He kept telling us how good Caleb Daniel’s was & we should recruit him in the Draft. A few ‘experts’ on this site told him Daniels was too small & kicking not that great 😲. Noddy kept saying what a brilliant boot Daniels had, plus he was playing in SAFL against men not just the schoolboy pathway kids in his draft year & holding his own. I think Saints went for Jack Lonie that draft as our small. Or it may have been someone as ‘talented’ 🫢 as Eliah Templeton. Can’t quite remember who it was we selected instead of taking Caleb Daniels, but Saints missed out there. I can remember taking note of that draft, because of noddy being so strong on Daniels. Saints had a pick a few earlier than Bulldogs when they picked Caleb. Think we picked Lonie, but I’m a bit fuzzy there, so could be wrong.

Yes that’s right. I remember Noddy. Yep. Def added to the list.

Just for the record… I believe it was Teflon that first broached this idea and a few people have contributed to the idea since.

Also… I believe the player you’re thinking of is none other than the great Jack Lonie. I know this because that was one of the drafts that I really zeroed in on (sometimes the bug gets me, sometimes it doesn’t).

I really really wanted Caleb Daniels that draft along with Petracca. It was a very disappointing day for me and in hindsight… the club.
