2025 Fixture
The 2025 AFL Season fixture is due to be released next week. What do we want to see?
Our 2024 draw was simply bizarre. The first half was ridiculous, for both the club and fans. The second half was more favourable. Our form mirrored the draw.
I’d like to see…
An even spread of travel and home games across the whole season.
More family friendly time slots.
No Thursday night home games.
An earlier bye.
Avoid the Gabba – we’ve played there three years in a row.
Avoid Tasmania – sorry Tassie Saints, we struggle down there.
Home game at the MCG vs Richmond, Carlton, or Essendon.
Home games vs Adelaide & GWS.
What we’re due for…
We finished in the middle six meaning we
- play one top 6 six side twice, but no more than two. (Bris, Syd, Geel, Port, Haw, GWS)
- play two middle six sides twice, but no more than three. (WB, Carl, Coll, Frem, Ess)
- play one bottom six side twice, but no more than two. (Melb, GC, Adel, NM, WCE, Rich)
I expect one of those middle six sides we play twice will be Collingwood. We have not played them twice in a season since 2011!
We will play at least one of Carlton, Bulldogs, Fremantle, or Essendon twice.
We seem likely to play Adelaide or Melbourne twice. We haven’t played either twice since 2019. We’ve only played Adelaide at Docklands twice in 11 years.
We’re probably due for a trip to the SCG to play the Swans, and to Perth to play Freo, but we should play GWS at Docklands, which we haven’t done since 2018.
Round 1
Been a few rumours suggesting we may play North Melbourne in Round 1. The club was also interested in repeating last year’s opener down at Kardinia Park.
Other possibilities are West Coast, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Fremantle, Port Adelaide or Adelaide. An interstate game would make sense given it’s Grand Prix weekend in Melbourne.

Re: 2025 Fixture
Totally agree about this year's draw...first half full of trips away and 5/6 day turnarounds, followed by a second half of friendlier home fixtures. I'm also sick of the so called experts saying our second half performances were after we faded from the top8 and the pressure was off. It was all about the draw.
When is the AFL going to bite the bullet and make the draw fair and equal to all rather than shelter those lower in the table and maximise the so called blockbuster games to placate the TV and cable/streaming masters? Maybe some system like playing each other once in the season and then an "extended" finals series to make up the balance of the season. Or home and away finals like FA cup used to have....Or a Melbourne "division" (where teams play each other twice, and play non Melb teams once), and the non Melbourne teams (vice versa) similar to the NFL.
Maybe crazy, but the current system is an AFL manipulation and clearly benefits certain teams....

2, Yes. But unlikely till we move up the ladder.
3. Why do you say that Beno? They rate really well.
4. Not sure that matters...?
5 & 6. We need to be able to succeed playing interstate. So I'd actually go the other way. Happy to play interstate. But I agree with you that an even spread of those games is the best way.
7. Definitely! Hell yeah! The club makes more $$$. And, as per playing interstate, we need to be able to play the MCG if we're to be successful.
8. Wogans and Sons of Beaches are the away interstate games to worry about the least. Though their home games, the majorty of the crowd still supports the visitors. (Which is pretty embarrassing for the AFL's franken-clubs. )

why don't you like Thursday night games? Love going to the dome after work. Takes the stress out of the weekend as well .Beno88 wrote: ↑Fri 08 Nov 2024 11:07am The 2025 AFL Season fixture is due to be released next week. What do we want to see?

Re: 2025 Fixture
My wish list:
Our newly annual MCG Home Game fixture should feature us against Carlton this year. They'll turn up and we match up well against them. Win-win.
I would prefer us to play North Melbourne twice at Docklands instead of traveling to Perth or Adelaide to play the Eagles or the Crows.
I would like us to play Hawthorn, Melbourne, Collingwood and Richmond twice and our away games against them to be at the MCG, rather than in Launceston, in SA for Gather Round, or Docklands. It's ridiculous how rarely we play opposition there.
Play Geelong at Docklands. They have become very entertaining matches which pull a crowd.

I don't mind a Thursday night game if we're interstate, but it's a massive revenue loss at home.Brunswicksainter wrote: ↑Fri 08 Nov 2024 4:58pmwhy don't you like Thursday night games? Our Thursday night home game in 2024 vs the Bulldogs drew 26k. Play that on a weekend and you get 40k.

Re: 2025 Fixture
We are the first named team, but nobody is the home team (a bit ridiculous when you consider that our return game against the Tigers this year was actually their home game, but they had to play it at our home ground).
I think we'll go okay against them at Norwood Oval.

Re: 2025 Fixture
It will probably most likely be an ordinary spectacle but remember GWS fell in against a very ordinary us last year in Canberra too. Our team will have a significantly different look about it next season. For example, I think that Lyon will develop a project player, much like he did with Matteas in 2022 and Darcy Wilson in 2023. It's highly likely we could see our first draft pick at least play every game in his first year as he did with the aforementioned players.chook23 wrote: ↑Mon 11 Nov 2024 6:51pmFell in against an ordinary Richmond there last yearsamuraisaint wrote: ↑Mon 11 Nov 2024 6:39pmWe are the first named team, but nobody is the home team (a bit ridiculous when you consider that our return game against the Tigers this year was actually their home game, but they had to play it at our home ground).

Re: 2025 Fixture
What about North Melbourne. What a bunch of AFL whores who sell their souls. How must their players feel playing home games in Tassie and now WA. What a heartless club. They will go to the wall within 5 years. LDU will leave end of 25. Why would he stay?
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

They've been doing it for years. Perth, Hobart, Carrara, SGC.magnifisaint wrote: ↑Wed 13 Nov 2024 12:06pm What about North Melbourne. What a bunch of AFL whores who sell their souls. We're not too far different though. China, New Zealand, Cairns, Launceston...
