I have some relations (in law) who have moved to Launceston for personal reasons

They have found acceptance difficult across the board despite their best efforts to integrate with the local community who they find, in truth are insular both in regards who they associate with and more generally

But they are persisting - and providing work to local tradespeople to correct deficiencies in the home they have purchased (they are astounded that there are the problems which regulation in Melbourne would not se, the problems they are encountering such as wiring surplus to household needs still alive and buried underground)

In terms of the impact of rural communities on government, we are about to find out in Queensland where there in now the divide between the Brisbane vote and the regional and rural vote - noting the Coaition are Queensland centric, providing over 20 seats of just over 50 seats in the lower house (of 150 seats overall) plus providing the leaders of both the Liberal Party and the National Party naturally)

So we will see how this plays out Nationally noting the Teals taking Liberal seats for this precise reason

The LNP and their media have a very significant problem

Then you get to the government in Tasmania currently cobbled together as it is (which is probably a template for the incoming Queensland government and where there are already ructions re abortion and other conservative attitudes (hence the divide between City and rural and regional)

So if the ALP wins seats in greater Brisbane, the Teals win Liberal seats in the metro areas and Labor hold their vote in the face of the Greens, where does that leave the landscape?

So badly f---ed it will be well overtime to leave for a Karen free country.

The uncertainty around Small Modular Reactors and the cost blowout in Georgia, point to the practical difficulties Australia would face in trying to build reactors cheaper than countries with decades of experience, when we've never built a nuclear energy plant before.

The US is not the only country struggling to build new plants.

France's latest reactor opened 12 years behind schedule and around 10 billion euros over budget.
Britain's Hinkley Point plant is running six years late and facing a 20 billion British pound overrun.
A South Korean consortium was able to build four reactors in the United Arab Emirates over 12 years. Even under an authoritarian regime, each reactor was connected to the grid around three years later than expected.

oooh great, the "impartial" ABC show. Like any other major project affected in the era of COVID, these highly complex projects have had schedule and cost over-runs. Every road and tunnel project in Victoria is miles over schedule and budget......maybe we shouldn't build those any more!

I love the selective picking of 3 nuke projects globally. What about the other 400 reactors in the world?

The LNP have no intention of building any nuclear power stations in Australia. That’s why Dutton won’t release costing, he probably doesn’t have any. All the LNP are trying to do is to disrupt the implementation of renewables and they do this by creating uncertainty in investment markets. Why? It keeps fossil fuels in the energy system longer and they are major donors to the LNP.

The ALP did not come up with the current renewables plan, it was the LNP Morrison Government, all that Labor are doing is implementing the plan.

Anyway, if we're casting our net wide, we should also seriously consider 18 year old WA draft prospect Kayle Gerreyn, at least as a later pick... who can play ruck and is also versatile enough to play key position.
He's like a bigger, taller version of Owens (he runs, uses his big body like Owens?), if the highlight reels are anything to go by.

Kayle Gerreyn impresses me. I'd be rapted if we end up landing him for our pick in the 20s. (If we still have that pick on draft night.)

Langford, Smillie, Maritn's man Hynes, Gerreyn, Cole and Peckett. That would be my dream draft outcome if we could somehow conjure that. (Not sure if Elwood will actually prove to be up to it, but, I'm a romantic. )
