I was keen on Billy Dowling at pick #35, but ironically Harvey Gallagher taken a few positions after Hotton looks like he will become a solid midfielder/small forward.

I thought the same, skeptic. It shows how fraught the whole industry is. You're only one serious or chronic injury from the end.
Ollie had plenty of ability, but injury, or rather a series of them derailed his career before it even started. I hope he can overcome his physical problems and get another crack at it. Ditto, Hayes and Paton.

Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
I do love sucking you into a stupid post. As per usual, you're too gutless to make a direct attack, or maybe you haven't worked it out yet. Just click or tap on the quotation marks and go from there.
So at the risk of being unfair or cruel, here goes, DK. Pay attention now.
Dalrymple has done more than ok. He's got the building of premiership and grand final-capable lists on his resume. He's acknowledged as being the best, or at least the equal of any recruiter out there. It was a massive coup for the club to prise him out of Sydney.
SOS has a s*** record as a recruiter, has he? He really stuffed up last year, didn't he? Wilson, Collard, Hastie, Garcia, Schoenmaker and Henry. Shocking!!
He has had a significant hand in building two of the most talented lists in the competition. Yes, he had lots of early picks at both, but many of his picks still play for those clubs or are still listed elsewhere. Far from a s*** record, but I must apologize. Your opinions are facts, aren't they?
"Like a guy who brings a knife to a gunfight." The last time I used this comment to describe your style of arguing, you replied with a predictably abusive response. Remember? You said I was a coward, who was probably too gutless to turn up to a gun fight! I couldn't stop laughing.
I should also mention you've written that my footballing and CV is "made up" even though you don't know me, who I played for, who I coached etc.
I didn't exactly boast about it, I merely stated I had 3 years of senior coaching in the upper grades of the amateurs, and like just about every other forumite on here, I played footy for 16 years, mainly in the ammos and a couple of suburban leagues (MPFL, the old Federal League et al).
Maybe you accused me of making it up because we never ran into each other on the field. This was probably because I played all my footy in the firsts. All my coaching too. I didn't see much of the magoos.
Back to my point. I feel duty bound to explain. My statement is what's called a similie, or in some people's eyes, a metaphor. That is, there is not an actual gun fight on involving anyone who is real.
It is a similie that is meant to demonstrate how inadeqately and inappropriately the protagonist (In this case that was you, DK) is equipped to carry out the task at hand (Again, this is you and your posting style). Like bringing a golf ball to a bowling alley, etc.)
There it is. Capiche? Just one more question. I'm told by another forumite, who warned me about you. The forumite told me you claim to be a teacher? Is that true? I just can't believe it, given your illiterate posts. I'm the Secretary-General of the United Nations. It's true I tells 'ya.
That's all folks. No more. I just had to get that off my chest on behalf of myself and several other forumites who harbor similar feelings.

Paton looks done to me.
Career ruined by Roughhead....he should feel guilty.
Hopefully we are trading our F1 for a teens pick this year.

Chris Toce was head of recruitment when the decisions were made for the National Draft in November last year. St Kilda fans should never forget his influence on our current list buildNick DalSanto Claus wrote: ↑Tue 29 Oct 2024 11:31pm SOS has a s*** record as a recruiter, has he? “Toce was the head of recruiting for the 2021 selections of Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Mitch Owens and Marcus Windhager, plus promising recent pick-ups Mattaes Phillipou, Darcy Wilson and Lance Collard.

Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
If other clubs pick up Hayes, or Patten do we get anything for them?
I would suspect we pick up 2 DFA in KPD, and a Ruckman if you can find a decent one.
5 spots in Draft, 2 NGA 3 picks and 1 sandy rookie total of 8 spots and Crouch could be a SSP or mid season

Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
Absolutely Paton was flying before his injury. I heard VFL radio where he and Coffield were playing. Quite clear in the commentary that Paton had a good game sense and could send ball to Coffield in good spots.Nick DalSanto Claus wrote: ↑Tue 29 Oct 2024 10:27pm Ruined by that cuckoo, Roughead. To rub salt into the wounds he achieved sfa and returned to his home nest, having well and truly cuckooed us in the process. Good riddance.
Such a shame.

Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
I'm sorry to see Paton go: I reckon he might still make it at another club.
I saw a fair bit of Hotton playing for the Zebras this year, and he never stood out among the VFL players in the way that you would expect from an AFL player. He was more of a link man than a playmaker.
I'm not sure what to think about Hayes. He hasn't looked right for a long time. If he could recover his full fitness, he'd be a very useful player. But it seems that the club has run out of patience, which is fair enough.

Agree totally on Daleymple, has an excellent record, it’s no doubt supported by good player development.Nick DalSanto Claus wrote: ↑Tue 29 Oct 2024 11:31pmI do love sucking you into a stupid post. However agree totally with BM on SOS.
The GWS recruitment and wasting of top 10 picks while SOS was there was unmatched by any club in AFL draft history.
His record at Carlton was not much better taking GWS rejects and wasting #3 on Dow, #10 on O’Brien and trading a future first #4 on Stocker.
SOS just really doesn’t seem that bright.
I hope Dalrymple is the go to guy.

Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
Have no fear, D.B.C. We are in good hands. Dalrymple is as good as anyone else in the business.
I agree, SOS has made mistakes, but who hasn't? The recruiting caper is harder than it looks. I think SOS appears to be improving. Last year's haul was outstanding.
I don't know how much input Toce had before he departed, but the end result augurs well for the future.

Hannas was a very good player, but unfortunately at St Kilda, he could just not stay on the park.meher baba wrote: ↑Thu 31 Oct 2024 7:18am

Hayes MAY have become a very good player, but he too could not stay on the park.
Both sadly had to go.
Soldo was looked at. The state of his knee saw them change the club change its mind.
I think the club knows that that a big problem in recent years has been too many players missing games.
Hotton has had trouble staying on the park.
I am REALLY hoping that King and Henry can both stay on the park.

Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
Now that we lost membery which I am very sad about but it had to be done.
Do we keep Hayes as a back up KPF if Camaniti, Sharman, King goes down or not in great form we have nobody else.
We were going to use Marshall but now that we haven't got a decent second ruck that is off the table I guess.
I cant see to many Rucks ready to got in the DFA pile maybe a young guy but that takes time and Heath is maybe a bit of a way off so that is a real concern for me.
And no Hayes can not ruck in AFL he gets smashed whenever he has tired maybe in SANFL its ok but not AFL.

Hayes is delisted. Depending what happens in the draft we might re-rookie him.
Of the three, I think Paton will be the one that will still play 50 games.

St Kilda need to continually turn over the list until they get the right mix. You can't be sentimental.

Clubs seem to be pretty upfront with players & public when they are planning on re-rookie listing them. They talk about it openly when they delist. About 10 players around the afl have already been announced.magnifisaint wrote: ↑Sun 03 Nov 2024 8:36pmI don't think that helps the club. We also didn't play him as a lockdown defender after that. Trialled as a running half back and a midfielder.
