Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
We seem to have quite a lot of list spots available now. Some rookies upgraded probably but don’t think we would fill the rest all through draft picks?

Jack was a favourite, offered something different and would have been be very handy next year. Pity about his body.

Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
Hayes very stiff because of his ruined knee and his age
Paton wouldn't have got another game. Effective stopper, but no game sense and a rabbit in the headlights with ball in hand. I can only see North Melbourne showing any interest in hum
Hotton has talent, but seems to lack attack on the contest. Is his back injury an ongoing situation? Who knows.......

Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
Why not keep Hayes and Paton as depth? They would assist youngsters coming thru, would help Zebs as they're both a level above VFL.cwrcyn wrote: ↑Tue 29 Oct 2024 12:55pm Hayes very stiff because of his ruined knee and his age

And can be named as sub in the event of injuries to best 23.

Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
RTB and his cohort must have decided these 3 were cloggers and so the club gave them a DCM.
The "delisted free agent" window opens on Friday, let's see if we are pigs to the trough.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

I don't have a problem with them having a look at the Delisted Free Agent window, as long as they are upgrades on the departures

Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
Thank them for their service and wish them luck for their future.
The club will have given them all opportunity to make the grade. A change of clubs may give their career a kick.
Saints need to revitalise their list and it won't come from these players. Therefore move on and see if we can crack the code with new blood.

Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
I reckon 2 of the three will get selected as DFAs
We will also select a delisted FA
And we will take a SSP
Big opportunity for Keeler

Get ready for pick splitting.
Hope we can turn 8 into something like 17, 18, 23. (Pending who has what picks to trade with)

Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
No point giving them another shot at it, the club needs to find new players.
Unless BJ wants them kept on as depth, so that they can help him out at Sandy.

Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
Welcome to the ruthless saints. No more room for sentiment. RTB, SOS and Dalrymple have been brought in to improve our list and turn it from so-so, into one that is a genuine contender, and not for a couple of years, but over a decade.
If they don't see you as a vital cog in future campaigns, you're taking up space. It's about time. Pity about these last three and Members. Injuries seem to have played a major factor. Them's the breaks in footy.

Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
Because unfortunately Jack can’t stay on the park and Paton is just NFG and should’ve been cut last year!WellardSaint wrote: ↑Tue 29 Oct 2024 1:22pmWhy not keep Hayes and Paton as depth? Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
Yep
The last time we were ‘ruthless’ was the Pelchen regime
That turned out brilliantly
Dalrymple- seems to have done ok as a list manager
Silvagni has a s*** record as a recruiter

Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
No surprise?
Never really understood why Ollie was recruited; almost no one recovers from a broken leg, brave try though Ben, tragic; Hayes was always too good to be true, great ability but body found AFL rigors too much, wish we got him young.

Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
I thought Hotton looked great in his draft vids. He was my early Smokey for pic of the bunch. Normally am pretty good with that but this one has brought down my average considerably

Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
Yeah, I remember talk of Essendon trying to poach him after he had that year of being one on the best lock down small defenders (https://www.afl.com.au/news/491664).
Unfortunately that break just derailed him and he never quite got back to that level.
I feel for the kids and hope he gets another shot to get back to that level.

Re: Paton, Hayes, Hotton delisted
Ruined by that cuckoo, Roughead. Came in, ruined a promising career, acting outside his remit, then inculcated Battle with the idea that Hawthorn truly was the family (babysitting) club, and then pissed off taking Battle with him.
To rub salt into the wounds he achieved sfa and returned to his home nest, having well and truly cuckooed us in the process. Good riddance.
