Re: zerohanger
Riley Bonner
Edit - I read it if it’s the same one
Nothing article. Just that he was shocked to be delisted after 19 games and that he still has lots to offer

Re: zerohanger
Watching Zero Hanger's review of the draft period, one fellow said we did ok because we now have 7&8 with the qualification that we need to use them wisely. To which another fellow added yes St Kilda has a habit of not doing that. Really annoys me that because all clubs bugger up draft picks not just us.

Re: zerohanger
Reckon Phillipou, Milera and Wilson have been pretty good recently....all would go higher in a revised draft of their respective years.

Re: zerohanger
And before that Clark and King both first round selections
There have been some misses as there are for all Clubs and in our case McCartin (due to injury) along with Billings, Dunstan, Acres and Coffield all of whom went to other Clubs with varying rates of success
We have Dow and Stocker, both first round selections from Carlton, and now Macrae from WB
So swings and roundabouts
We trust 7 and 8 replicate Wanganeen-Milera, Phillipou and Wilson
Then there are Sinclair, Marshall and Wilkie all off the Rookie List

Re: zerohanger
We had a pretty barren period for basically a decade up until recently. Thankfully recent picks seem to be much better.1971 wrote: ↑Sat 19 Oct 2024 4:46pm Watching Zero Hanger's review of the draft period, one fellow said we did ok because we now have 7&8 with the qualification that we need to use them wisely. A rerun of the draft would see them each top 3.Banger9798 wrote: ↑Sat 19 Oct 2024 6:11pm Reckon Phillipou, Milera and Wilson have been pretty good recently....all would go higher in a revised draft of their respective years.
Garcia could also be a first rounder.

Re: zerohanger
I didn't know Bonner was delisted. 19 games then dumped.
Yes ordinary by foot. Bad decisions etc. He was given a lot of game time.
Thought would have been useful as a backup as we have made lots of changes already and don't have many draft selections ( is it 4)
Are we going to be that active in the delisted draft?

Re: zerohanger
I think Bonner had enough upside that he was worth getting games into to see if he ended up gelling with the team.repta wrote: ↑Sun 20 Oct 2024 8:46am I didn't know Bonner was delisted. 19 games then dumped.

He did not, but it was worth the gamble. Lost nothing from it other than some games into first year players.

Re: zerohanger
Yeah it was odd how many games Bonner got before being delisted. His deficiencies were pretty apparent from very early on, yet he kept getting picked over younger blokes.

Re: zerohanger
After one game, Ross spoke about a Bonner turnover and said he told Bonner it was OK, 'we got u for your long kicking, so keep doing that'
At the time, Ross might've been aware of one game where he had 17 turnovers

Re: zerohanger
I couldn't disagree more - the decision to recruit him and then play him, when we have so many developing back flankers on our list was really poor forethought IMO. The guy showed he had the heart the size of a pea at Port yet we waste 19 games on him. Those games could have gone into the development of Hastie, Shoenmaker and McLennan who have a future in AFL unlike Bonner. Lyon is as much to blame as the list management team in this regard, Bonner was never a solid player at either club.Otiman wrote: ↑Mon 21 Oct 2024 2:06pmI think Bonner had enough upside that he was worth getting games into to see if he ended up gelling with the team.repta wrote: ↑Sun 20 Oct 2024 8:46am I didn't know Bonner was delisted. 19 games then dumped.

Nah that was after the Collingwood game. The 17 turnover game was against Essendrug.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Mon 21 Oct 2024 2:49pm After one game, Ross spoke about a Bonner turnover and said he told Bonner it was OK, 'we got u for your long kicking, so keep doing that'

Re: zerohanger
Well he played over 100 AFL games across 2 Clubs.
The majority of those at Port Adelaide who have had a consistent presence in September.
So how did he get to over 100 games?
Typical of mid-range players Clubs are looking to improve on - and, in our case freeing Sinclair up to play midfield.
It became obvious that Sinclair can do more damage from defence.
