Sawmills are basically nonexistent Buzzard as you may be aware. Unfortunately for many towns in country Victoria they have been closed due to no access to timber. You see Oldmate because I live in reality that's just a shitful and actually insulting post. I was actually one of the first managers in the industry to have a female assistant manager and have had three since. I have an equal amount of both female and male staff in a male dominant industry. Also Oldmate as we know the rules we as a group over many years have no issues as we are also humans living in the real world.
Perhaps a cultural refresh required at the sawmill.

The most frightening part of your posting is not even the harassment, it’s that an illiterate moron can hold a managerial role.

Why are people trying to justify themselves
Go and watch some Ricky Gervais- and listen to him when he say
They’re just jokes!!!
Take a bex lie down and get over yourself
if you are offended by jokes - perhaps you are the one with the issue
Don’t try and be all politically correct so you can get on a high horse and take a moral high ground - it just makes you look like a boring knob with no sense of humour.
I find it interesting when white people are offended by racism
When atheists sympathise with Muslims
When skinny people are offended by fat jokes
None have the first fkn clue about prejudices

None of the performers are comedians, so why are you bringing up people trained/experienced in comedy? That's like complaining about race car drivers when someone is pulled over for speeding. Some people are trained/experienced and know how to do it well.
If you are going to complain about comedy, how much live comedy have you seen in the last year?

Being offended is irrelevant because it’s subjective.
Personally, nothing anybody I don’t respect says could ever offend me.
That doesn’t it’s ok to say inappropriate things.

So just to clarify BM, you don’t have any problem with a rape skit (referencing real people) being performed for laughs at a work event?

Re: GWS Players in the gun. AFL has gone mad.
Maybe go back to around page 5 and read it all again. You thought comedy was dead (despite maybe never actually seeing it live) and I called you Henny Penny on account of all the needless panicking. You listed your favourite 'controversial' and I said yeah they are generally fine because they are all good at their jobs.
What makes a carpenter? I can cut and screw some wood together, does that make me one?
My car could go pretty fast, does that make me a race car driver?
Or are we getting to your fundamental misunderstanding of the issue? You think anyone that can make someone laugh is a comedian so they should be able to say whatever they want, audience be damned?

So,
No one - unless they are Dave Chapelle or Kevin Hart - can make a joke?
I know loads of cunny funts who crack me up constantly - not paid comics
BTW
Of course I’ve gone to comedy shows - I live in Melbourne- there’s a festival every year!
Watch Montreal and Edinburgh on TV and YouTube in fact there are literally hours of comedy gigs online. Ron white in the Blue Collar quartet- funny!
But I like 70s and 80s comedy
Eddie Murphy was a genius and Raw and Delirious masterpieces, Richard Pryor a legend, Rodney Dangerfield- king of the one-liners!!!
TV shows like Fawlty Towers comedy writing had no peers!
Played footy in 96 with a well known comedian too - his first ever game! And Irish bloke! And he was hard at the ball!!!

For someone who goes to shows you seem pretty ignorant of how comedy works. Hence me asking if you had seen live comedy, because you will see comedians saying edgy stuff all the time if you are actually out engaging with the scene. But maybe you haven't been in a while if you only like 70/80s stuff and are just watching that on streaming. Who is your favourite that you have seen recently?
How do you feel about trigger warnings? Do you understand the point of them?

I tell you what service staff should not do, violate the privacy of the customer. There is no obligation for that service staff member to put up with it, they can quit if they don't like it and do something else. And self righteous assholes like that service staffer, should get a job where they don't work with other people, for the sake of other people. I'd sack the asshole without blinking.

Re: GWS Players in the gun. AFL has gone mad.
If it wasn't a function organised by the employer, for example a Christmas Party, then HR would have no right to call you in. Of course they often would and do, because workers often don't know their rights and/or are inadequately represented or advised. And whether the employer can or can't intervene isn't really the point, the question is whether they should.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Sun 20 Oct 2024 9:19pmSo ... And they weren’t the judges, the AFL was.
The context is everything, this is a work event, not people going to see a comedy show.
If you and your team at work decide to go out to dinner for a Christmas party, that is a work event.
If you go out for after work drinks with 8 people from your office, that’s a work event.
You’ve been out of the loop for too long Curly.
Can’t do rape skits at a work event, pretty simple.
A group of staff going out on their own accord is not.
Exaggerated for effect.
In your hypothetical, I would suggest that they shouldn't. Perhaps someone at the party could tell you to put some pants on or go home. If none of the people from work did that and waited to inform HR instead, then I would suggest that they are quite simply fuckwits. Passive squibs, burdened by low self esteem. We don't need employers or HR Mangers compensating for that.

I was always taught that how you treat service staff was an indication of your character. So it is interesting you say there is no obligation for them to put up with it because they could quit instead. Because cost of living is so low right now and being without a job for a period is something all of us could just do.The G Train Legacy wrote: ↑Tue 22 Oct 2024 9:59amI tell you what service staff should not do, violate the privacy of the customer. This wasn't actions that they would normally encounter in their job, this was people acting out sexual assault.
At no point did they violate their privacy, they reported it to the club/AFL. The AFL released their identities.
Amazing that it is still taking this long for people to understand that if you want to do stuff that might make people uncomfortable or might reflect poorly on you, do it in private. Especially don't do it in other people's workplaces.

I'm not saying that the players' antics were of good character or in good taste. Its not an issue that warrants interference or sanctions from the employer.St Dave wrote: ↑Tue 22 Oct 2024 10:47amI was always taught that how you treat service staff was an indication of your character. I'm polite and grateful to service staff, unless they're deceitful or rude themselves. However, if I did do something to upset them, I wouldn't expect or tolerate my employer becoming involved.
In regard to privacy. The players booked a private room, they weren't in a public place. They booked a private room for privacy. They had the right to expect privacy. That would include the venue not contacting their employer or anyone else about what went on.
If they had broken the Law, then it would be appropriate to call the Police, not their employer. If they were behaving badly and treating the staff badly, then you throw them out, not call their employer.
Then there's the video footage, which is what apparently upset the dobber who wasn't at the event. Security cameras are precisely for that purpose, security. It is not for the employees to watch later for their entertainment because they had famous people at their venue. That for a start is a clear violation of privacy. The employees, including the dobber, had no business watching the video in the first place.
And I reiterate, if the dobber is offended and can't deal with it (although I wonder if they were offended or just imposing their ethics or political views) they should quit. The alternative is to force people into not doing anything that offends you, which is a bit narcissistic and psychotic. Not a healthy psychological way to deal with things.
Also, who said anyone was acting out a sexual assault?
For the record, because it has been touched upon in this thread. Haynes faced trial for the alleged rape and the first trial ended in a hung jury.
The matter was retried and the Jury found him guilty. On appeal the conviction was quashed. You know why?
Sometime during the retrial, after the complainant had been cross-examined, the defence got evidence that the complainant had deleted text messages between her and Haynes. They sought to re examine her to ask why, which was completely appropriate. The Judge refused to let them and then downplayed its significance in his instructions to the Jury! The conviction was completely dodgy and was never going to survive an appeal. Haynes hasn't raped anyone, that has not been proven.
I'm more concerned by the fact that if Haynes weren't a relatively wealthy man, he'd be serving a long prison sentence for a crime he possibly didn't commit. In comparison I couldn't give a s*** if an intolerant little dobber needs to find another job.
