Yes and Macrae comes in.

Picks 7,8,32, Cole, Pickett, and a Sandy player (Rookie Draft most likely).

Not sure if contracted Crouch is able to escape a list spot, other than being placed on LTI list from day 0.

I expect us to pick up a player in the PSD. Whether that's Culley or DGB or someone else.

Any idea what our rookie list situation is?

There is no way I’d waste a list spot on a Sandy player

Unless Cole, Peckett were considered Sandy players

Because technically they played at Sandy this season

The rest were rubbish
Maybe Will Vesely

Have we somewhere confirmed we will take Cole & Peckett?

I haven’t read anything official, however it’s written often on this forum suggesting it is likely.

Personally I see Cole as a late pick or rookie and don’t see Peckett as either.

Given Peckett can nominate for F/S and he hasn't we probably haven't made a commitment to take him so he is keeping his options open.

Cole seems like the type of player we need and I think there was a profile on him of the Saints website earlier in the year? But yeah we haven't been properly linked which is interesting, maybe it is just assumed because we can guarantee well will get him and he would be cheap?

1. Battle - Pick 7
2. Membrey - Pick 8
3. Allison - Pick 32
4. Van Es - Pick 47
5. Ross - Macrae
6. Bonner - Cole
7. Campbell - Phillips

Blakiston
Peckett

I think 2 or even 3 more will be delisted
Probably Paton (GWS) Crouch (ret)
Hotton might be delisted and re rookied

Is the club interested in the 3rd McCartin brother ?

Grubby and DD (SOS) were spotted watching him play in some local footy league late in the season.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

We need to follow through on our promise to draft sandy players, to draw in more hopefuls to play for them.

It's not about a list need now, it's about future development.

I think it’s a ridiculous sentiment

What if we overlook a potential star because we have backed ourselves into a corner by saying we will recruit 1 player from a list of 25 pretty average VFL players

It’s like the bloody quota system

What if we had this deal in place last season and had to take Darby Hipwell over Arie Schoenmaker?!

I have to agree with you, BM. Twice in one night! I'm sure we can manipulate the Crouch situation in some way. Don't let him quit yet!

As for Sandringham, it's obvious there's nothing there. I've watched them 6 times this year live, and twice on TV. That's a fair sample size.

BM is on point. They have nothing on their list that is worth giving up a precious list vacancy for. I was for it initially, because I thought it might draw a gun or two out of the suburban and state leagues, given there was a chance to play and train within our AFL environment and be right in front of the selectors on rookie draft night.

Sandy has been uncompetitive for years and are considered a bit of a joke amongst the other teams. The only time they look competitive is when the AFL list is healthy and there are plenty of Saints' listed players on deck.

My only hope, a very slim one, is that we can convince the AFL to allow us to select one of our NGA lads (Hoffman is a rapidly improving player) or at least let us rookie Elwood Peckett to fulfill the requirement. Given the largesse displayed to the northern acadamies, it only seems fair to bend the rules a little for one of the battlers.

Again, if we managed to do this (and there is no precedent, by which the AFL is bound, I believe) the melts by the other clubs and our old mate, "Purple" would be worth it.

In the Rookie draft? Or our final selection on draft night? Doubtful.

I consider it tying up a list spot rather than any meaningful draft picks. I guess it would be 2 list spots if we need to give them 2 year contracts.

Picking a sandy player has far more indirect upside. If we can 'hide' developing players and get them for 'free', we will gain a competitive advantage.

Yep, and as you said in your other post, having a good reward for effort increases competition in the squad and could attract external talent to further strengthen that competition.

Along the same lines as if you want to attract talent one way to do it is offer higher wages.

If he nominates - I assume we don't need to take him. It may however boost his profile if we show some interest.

Exactly, we can draw premium VFL players if we promised them homeground was JO! That's all I'm saying.

Yeah we wouldn't need to match or take him.

But if he is a fringe draft prospect (which I don't know he is, but just assuming given I haven't heard any talk of him being a pick in the first few rounds) and he nominated us, other clubs would be less likely to look at him and try to take him later in the draft if we can just match for basically no cost. So if we weren't committed to taking him, nominating us would hurt his ability to get drafted

Where does Lennox Hofman sit, he is a St Kilda NGA due to his mum being Swiss.

The rules allow a club to have a total of 42 senior and rookie A players with a maximum of those being 6 rookie A.
A club can then have up to 2 rookie B players as well.

At present St Kilda has 5 rookie A's
Max Heath
Cooper Sharman
Jack Hayes
Anthony Caminiti
Max Hall

and 2 rookie B's
Angus McLennan
Liam O'Connell

All these rookies are contacted for next season except for Jack Hayes

St Kilda was maxed out with 44 players after the mid season rookie draft
but Matt Allison, Josh Battle, Riley Bonner, Tom Campbell, Sebastian Ross, and James Van Es departures and the arrival of Jack McCrae opens up 5 places.
It presently has 33 senior players, 5 rookie A and 2 rookie B = 40 (includes Jack McCrae)
Pick 7, 8, 32 and 47 imply 0 free places
But then the club may well want to have a vacancy for a delisted free agent, the rookie draft, a train on supplemental rookie selection before the start of the season and a mid season rookie selection.

It probably means that if any extra players are taken as delisted free agents or in the rookie draft, or as end of main draft or rookies they must displace someone
contracted Brad Crouch or uncontracted Jack Hayes, Olli Hotton, Ben Paton, Tim Membrey.

It must be $hit being in that group not knowing your future, is it football or starting the search for a job in the real world.
No matter how good and employable you know you are, it is never comfortable until someone else says "when can you start".

Existing rookies like Cooper Sharman and/or Anthony Camaniti can be moved to the senior list to clear rookie spaces as required.
Existing rookie B's can be moved to rookie A's to clear rookie B spaces.

That's bs. I don't know of her qualifications or her experience or circumstances as a parliamentarian, but what makes you think it's just a 'Labour' thing for people quitting their party.

Cory Bernardi ring a bell. It's not even a 'woman' thing... although the Libs seem to have a problem attracting and retaining females.

One of the best candidates for Prime Minister in Julie Bishop resigned and quit politics altogether...as did Kelly O'Dwyer. Julia Banks quit the federal Liberals and several females in the State Libs have quit the party or joined the Teals.

With Membrey now officially delisted there are 5 places available
Picks 7, 8, 32 & 47 likely to used in the main draft.

St Kilda started 2024 with the maximum of 44 players but was able to list another player (Max Hall) at the mid season rookie draft by moving a player to the long term injured list.
But St Kilda must start the season with no more than 44 players.
Hence officially only 5 places so far with Paton, Hotton, & Hayes yet to receive a new contract and future of contracted Crouch in doubt.

Correct. People seem to forget that Hall was an extra.
