Rumour has it ……..
North Melbourne will look to slide down the draft order because they’re real keen on Armstrong who is said to be around picks 8-10.
So hopefully we can offer up one of our picks 7 or 8 and possibly a future pick and get our hands on their pick 2.

Maybe a backward step, pick 7 could be as good as pick 2 in this deep draft, we need to hang onto all our draft picks and use them wisely before Tansmania enters the competition

This must be total crap. Surely no club, no matter how badly run, would adopt such a ridiculous strategy.
What if they went through all that and then another club took the guy they want with pick 5 or 6?
They'd be better off hanging onto pick 2 and take him with that. That way, they're getting the player they want and also denying another club the opportunity to use pick 2.

Imagine if we traded pick 7 to them and then took the player they wanted with pick 8.meher baba wrote: ↑Thu 17 Oct 2024 10:18am This must be total crap. Surely no club, no matter how badly run, would adopt such a ridiculous strategy.

Be careful, suggesting drafting could be needs based and that maybe you should reach a little bit might piss off the 'draft best available' crowd.meher baba wrote: ↑Thu 17 Oct 2024 10:18am This must be total crap. Surely no club, no matter how badly run, would adopt such a ridiculous strategy.

In reality, trying to trade down is the optimal strategy because you extract the excess value from pick 2 to use later. Every club knows roughly what clubs would be after what players, so if North know the top 5 picks are likely to be players A to E if they can trade down to 6 and get a future first or a second or something as well, any extra picks are pure value.
Especially up the top end there are rarely any surprise picks, and the top free picks are particularly valuable, so you can be reasonably confident and get a fair bit of value too.

Ummm Saints a few years back were throwing away our destiny every draft. Thank God that era has settled down, been okay last 3 years.meher baba wrote: ↑Thu 17 Oct 2024 10:18am This must be total crap. Surely no club, no matter how badly run, would adopt such a ridiculous strategy.
