GWS Players in the gun. AFL has gone mad.
Private party, doing nothing illegal yet the AFL is talking fines and suspensions. Toby Green who apparently did nothing other than attend is facing a huge fine for not shutting down a private party.
Players apparently dressed as celebrities and acted out movie scenes.
Really AFL really.

Re: GWS Players in the gun. AFL has gone mad.
I read that the AFL is investigating.
The article quotes the AFL "The AFL and GWS have been undertaking an investigation into the Giants players' post-season event, which is in its final stages."
GWS have said "the Giants are aware of an anonymous allegation of inappropriate behaviour at the players' end-of-season function last month. The club and its integrity unit have been working with the AFL's integrity unit to investigate."
AAP say in the article "GREATER Western Sydney players face potential AFL sanctions, with an investigation underway after an anonymous complaint about an end-of-season function."
AAP is not the AFL.

Someone complained and the AFL had an excuse to issue some fines. It's a good money spinner every time a footballer doesn't meet their high moral standards

Love the culture warriors leading to the defence of unknown actions. Nothing is off limits for Curly. Or maybe something is, out of curiosity what would justify a fine or suspension Curly?

So you have no line? I assume anyone leaping to the defence of unknown actions are fine with casual racism/sexism/homophobia, but I am asking at what point are you considering sanctions appropriate? Is something to do with sexual abuse (including of minors like has already referenced here) too far?

As someone quite out of the loop…
What’s exactly alleged to have happened and what exactly are we calling a private party? Someone’s house? A private function room etc?

I posted a link in one of my posts. It was a Private function room according to reports from Tom Morris and others. Apparently the staff were offended and they made complaints.

Nothing illegal so no sexual abuse or nothing involving minors.St Dave wrote: ↑Wed 16 Oct 2024 6:15pmSo you have no line? The reports are that it was deemed to be offensive to whom ever reported it.

Re: GWS Players in the gun. AFL has gone mad.
No-one is saying they actually assaulted anyone, but (just using the example already raised) if someone was dressed as Diddy and acted out assaulting an underage Justin Bieber is that far enough for sanctions? Or for you it would take the actual assault of someone to be justified? I am just wondering where the line is for culture warriors who immediately leap to the defence of unknown actions.CURLY wrote: ↑Wed 16 Oct 2024 7:43pmNothing illegal so no sexual abuse or nothing involving minors.St Dave wrote: ↑Wed 16 Oct 2024 6:15pmSo you have no line? How much trouble would you be in nowadays for setting fire to a dwarf at a break up function.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Well depends on cultural appropriateness, in Western Sydney that may well be quite acceptable. Actually I am really curious what was so offensive in that part of the world, it's NRL and gang world is it not?

Re: GWS Players in the gun. AFL has gone mad.
Diddy's parties were private functions to.
Until we know what actually happened nobody can say whether the reaction is excessive or reasonable.
Remember a private function that has staff involved is not as private as many would like.

People are going put of their way to seek being offended these days. Must be some kind of endorphin rush.

Re: GWS Players in the gun. AFL has gone mad.
Lots of keyboard warriors rushing to the defence of Schrodinger's private function to fight 'wokeism gone too far' or whatever, but no-one brave enough to say how far might actually be far enough for sanctions.
Once we find out details it will be too late. Don't be one of those guys that has to come back to sheepishly say 'well I guess joking about repeated sexual assault (or whatever) is a bit rough'.

So the bar tender didn't actually witness the incident they re-watched the party on CCTV.
They actually searched for something to be offended by.
