McCrae is committed to having one last roll of the dice before he goes into full rebuild mode.
It looks like he has decided that he won't be mired in the middle of the pack and that brining in Membrey may give his forward line a lift.
It is good for Collingwood that they seem to have committed to a strategy.
We don't seem to have committed to a single strategy at this stage it looks like we are running with this pointless dual narrative which will lead us nowhere in my opinion.
If we don't bring in any more over the hill players, like Macrae, and don't do anything silly with the picks we have I may change my opinion on what our strategy is.

Our drafting and trading strategy are pretty clear over the last few years, it's clearly focused on youth. The 'dual narrative' is just about not bottoming out and losing members. The last few premierships have shown you don't need to get multiple top 3 picks to win a flag.

We just need to not get greedy and pay overs for established players. Market value for McRae should be the equivalent of picks 30-45.

I understand what the dual narrative is however I don't understand how it will be successful for St Kilda.
We are not Geelong, Carlton, Collingwood or one of the other desirable destinations who can target the players they want and get them to support that approach.
We are also not Sydney or Brisbane who can bring in a handful of NGAs and FSs for drastically under their true value.
Guess what we are also neither GWS or GC who had so many FRDPs that they can simply keep trading some out to keep adding more high-end picks.
We have two ways to improve our list, one we overpay dramatically to get players in see Brad Hill or two we go to the draft and draft well.
Unfortunately, if you float around mid-table the probability of bringing in elite talent is diminished compared to the teams that have the 3 or 4 picks.

Agreed, which is why we are raising hell around draft inequality.

It's also obvious to me that unless it's a planned 'bottoming out' (ie Tanking), the gains do not outweigh the losses. Not just around supporters and memberships, but player development and club culture can both spiral out of control.
