Brodie Kemp
AFL.com says we’re interested.
Please don’t tell me SOS is in charge?
Remember him at Carlton, taking all the GWS guys who didn’t make the grade?
I don’t know his role in identifying talent at GWS, however in his tenure their first round drafting was the worst of any club in the history of the draft.
Dow, next Kemp?
Two first round draft picks that are C grade AFL players, anyone else see a pattern forming?
No, SOS don’t go chasing C grade Carlton rejects.

Re: Brodie Kemp
Played well in the game against Collingwood that they had to win. Looked lively enough and looks to be able to play either end.D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Tue 15 Oct 2024 2:03pm AFL.com says we’re interested.

Re: Brodie Kemp
He’s bog average
He’s a third tall defender - we have the best in the league
Or a third tall forward- we have Sharman!

Re: Brodie Kemp
Didn't Kemp have a shot on goal late in last quarter and missed before Higgins put them away in R23 this year ?

He seems Ok. Still youg. I prefer Jack Silvagni at CHB.

I’d prefer SOS at his age than Jack.magnifisaint wrote: ↑Tue 15 Oct 2024 2:28pm https://www.carltonfc.com.au/players/2208/brodie-kemp

If SOS recruits his son, I’d seriously reconsider my life long, thick and thin support.

Re: Brodie Kemp
Could do worse than Brodie Kemp. He's no star, but his best is still ahead of him.
Played 21 games in a side that sat in the top 4 for most of the season.
I'd certainly take him for cheap.

Re: Brodie Kemp
Yeah for 47 I wouldn't complain, however with his age and the games he played last year (as you mention) I don't imagine Carlton are going to let him go cheap.
Feels like we should be playing Cordy and our young backs rather than payong what Carlton might ask for.

He’s contracted, therefore likely we’ll pay overs for an average player.

I don't think he will move. It's just a tree shake.

Re: Brodie Kemp
I get worried about players SOS drafted at Carlton- the record isn't great for what they paid. Stocker was delisted, the GWS guys he got after he left there were not much chop, now chasing another guy who is a depth player at Carlton. Anything more than an third - rather see Cama become a CHB

Re: Brodie Kemp
Yeah, if the choice is Cordy or Kemp with no cost you take Kemp. But paying a second round pick + whatever else (noting he played over 20 games last season and Carlton aren't actively looking to get rid of him) doesn't necessarily improve us either.
But I said young backs need time too and if the club thinks our young defenders are close, maybe they split time early with Cordy as the back up. Putting Kemp in front of them basically guarantees they don't get a chance without injuries.

Re: Brodie Kemp
"The word on Kemp coming into the season was that he was destined for more midfield minutes after finding a home as a high-marking intercept defender in 2018, but he would end up having an impact just about everywhere. He adapted his kick-dominant game to become a handball-happy midfield extractor, was solid in his usual defensive post for Vic Country, and eventually a game winner for them up forward. Kemp’s success up forward lends to his key strengths of impact and overhead marking. He showed his worth with a huge contested mark in the dying seconds against South Australia to snare the winning goal, while doing the same twice in the last quarter against Western Australia to almost drag his side over the line. All were really game defining moments, and while Kemp does not win crazy amounts of the ball, he has important touches. Add to that a sub-three second 20m sprint and phenomenal agility and you have a prospect that can pull off just about anything. A good size to boot, Kemp would be a top 10 lock if not for his recent injury."

We had a guy that just finished 3rd in the B&F walk out the door...There is nobody on our list that can replace him at the moment.St Dave wrote: ↑Wed 16 Oct 2024 12:39pmYeah, if the choice is Cordy or Kemp with no cost you take Kemp. Maybe Caminiti, but if we're letting Membrey and Hayes leave, then that says that he's a long term tall forward.
Unless we are going to get Tomlinson as a DFA from Melbourne, then we need to be having a crack at some key defenders.

Assume you're replying to my post
Yes. 1cm difference in height to Battle and can take the third tall and intercept when needed.

Re: Brodie Kemp
All I am saying is look at our strategy with Macrae. Bringing in an old guy for a third round pick, not too get in the way of our young talent but to play a far few games next year and be transitioned out as those guys develop.Life Long Saint wrote: ↑Wed 16 Oct 2024 1:07pmWe had a guy that just finished 3rd in the B&F walk out the door...There is nobody on our list that can replace him at the moment.St Dave wrote: ↑Wed 16 Oct 2024 12:39pmYeah, if the choice is Cordy or Kemp with no cost you take Kemp. If you are writing off guys like McLennan or Keeler or Schoenmaker then sure, pay overs for a young guy from Carlton. If you think they have a shot, they will need opportunity that they will lose with another more mature/developed player in front of them.
I don't disagree the area needs support, I just think Ross is a defensive structure coach and the one place he can cover with an average/developing player is defence. But yeah if the club doesn't rate the kids we have and SOS wants to get back with a past draftee (and if he is as good as that samoht post says) maybe paying the premium is worth it.

Has there been a suggested trade tabled?
We currently have 7, 8, 32, 45, 47
Carlton have 3, 63, 68, 69, 72...Fair to say they might need some picks in between 3 and 63 and might be willing to deal.
