It used to be Tim Lane (Annoying Carlton supporter.) I just hated ALL Carlton supporters. He still bores me with his over the top commentary.

Then it was Eddie McGuire (spruiker of everything Collingwood who then became their crooked President). ...but I reckon I started hating him after he finished being a 'journo' and making his main living from the profession.

And ...these days it's a split between Andy Maher and David Zita. Both boring as bat s***

My late mum was a staunch St Kilda supporter, but she did confess to me in her later years that she dated a Swans player for a while in the late 1940s.

But I forgive her for that. And one thing I can say for her is that, despite coming from a family of journos, she never became one herself.

Who is the ABC journalist who reported/leaked Egan's Hawthorn review of racism as proof Fagin, Clarkson and one other were proven racists - without qualification, verifiable facts or balance.
I think he has done a fair bit of reputational damage and caused expensive processes. Possibly with time he will have raised the cynicism threshold on future claims, helping no one.
I'd take him, his editor and the producer.
They are yet to face legal accountability but its coming.

Russell Jackson gave Fages and Clarko an opportunity to respond. I reckon their lawyers had already told them to say nothing and to not respond to anything specific. I thought that'd be obvious to most people.

Good post, Scollop. Just one thing I'd like to point out when assessing the worth of so called "evidence" presented by the ABC and the media in general.

A former colleague of mine, (now deceased may he rest in peace) who was an eminent QC at the time, described the Walkley Awards and other various media prizes as, and I quote, "Like the Sex Workers'/Prostitutes' Collective presenting awards for Street Walker of the Year, or best brothel madam."

The same QC built a grand holiday home in Pt. Lonsdale on the proceeds he garnered from successful prosecutions of various media outlets, including "Your ABC." Business was very brisk. NDAs ensured that most of these embarrassing cases were buried in the court archives.

As Winston Churchill once told a woman he was arguing with, "Madam we've established what you are, we're merely haggling over the price." Sums up their shitty industry well.

The Walkley's are an orgy of self congratulation. Ricky Gervaise in his opening monologues at the Golden Globe Awards over the past decade, gives a brutally honest assessment of the entire media/showbiz business industry.

Ironically, the latest report on behavioural standards at the ABC has concluded that it is plagued by racist behaviors and attitudes itself. This comes on top of allegations that they doctored sound and video footage to support their allegations of war crimes allegedly committed by a gay SAS commando, outing him in the process. That Commando is now $400,000 richer as a result.

Doesn't really fit the narrative the ABC tries to promote, that it is objective and honest.

It is neither, and all the damages they pay out every year to silence embarrassing complaints, is yours and every other tax payers' money. It sure is our ABC, especially when it comes to paying for their stuff ups.

Let's see how the allegations go at court. If the plaintiffs are heavily relying on the evidence of an investigative journalist to prove their case, I wish them all the luck in the world. They'll need it.

PS. I really dislike Barrett. He is supposedly the best in the business according to Gary Lyon and others. He's the best? I rest my case. In fairness, I don't know The Fireman's mum, but I'm sure she's a very nice woman.

Natural justice, young fellow. Not throwing mud on false witness basis. When you ignore the importance of proper process because it doesn't suit one of your favourite cause celebre you show shallowness and it leads to dangerous territory. Don't mistake advocating, muckraking and cheerleading for journalism. Unless of course you have a chronic bias. What did the AFL investigation show - that it was a great piece of work, I believe not. I'd love to be able to think the worst about Hawthorn in regard to that guy's report but so far there is no reason to do so.

I agree with most names mentioned but living in WA we have had some radio journalist's who have really tipped me over the edge of sanity and one of those peanuts is Tim Gossage who still does SEN breakfast's over here. My enjoyment in life has improved greaty since the SEN App provides alternative peanuts.

It seems you (and a few others) have a problem reading articles that are confronting.

Did Russell make a judgement call or provide any analysis or opinion? No. He didn't. He interviewed people and told their story.

He wasn't asking you to believe the indigenous players story. Have you already come to a conclusion?

I think you're confusing journalism with tabloid propaganda and opinion puff pieces. I mean...I understand...I get it...that's what happens when you get your ideas from watching mainstream media and reading the Herald Sun.

I wasn't patronizing you,or anyone else involved at all, nor was I ignoring the serious issues that are in dispute. My whole argument is that we shouldn't attach any importance to the Walkleys, nor any other media awards as they are nothing but self congratulatory, back-slapping exercises conducted in an echo chamber.

I would say you take the credibility of the Walkleys, the Golden Quill et al, reasonably seriously because you rely, in part at least, on establishing the integrity or expertise of the journalist involved.

I was questioning the objectivity of the journalist and the organization he works for, citing recent examples to support my argument. The allegations involved couldn't be more serious or important and in no way was I trying to deflect from them.

It appears to me that the people damaged by this situation are both the plaintiffs and the accused, all of whom have had their reputations and characters besmirched already.

After the issues are settled, the media involved will pack up and move the caravan on, while the others are left to clean up the mess and suffer the consequences, sometimes for the rest of their lives.

My criticism is the role of the various media types involved. It's their M.O. Get the whiff of a story, pick sides, then shape the "facts" to suit their narrative.

As I alluded to, through my associations within the legal and media industries, I have seen and had to deal with similar scenarios in a professional sense, myself.

I have no love for the media. Its members are consistently ranked in the bottom five occupations in polls on trustworthiness and integrity. Right down there with politicians, real estate agents, car salespeople and bank executives.

So, as I stated, no intent to patronize you, Scollop. Quite the opposite. I have been accused of being somewhat condescending in the past. You know, that's when you talk down to people

PS. For those wondering, doctors, nurses, dentists, engineers, defense-force personnel and emergency service workers (firefighters, paramedics,coppers, etc.), usually make up the top ten in those trust surveys.
