I reckon Jones can be better this year with another pre-season behind him. Howard appeared to improve slightly last year and his height in the backline is important. We have heard that Arie Schoenmaker is making progress and hopefully he'll make a move next year sometime.

Howard’s 2024 was interrupted with early injury following on from injury across the back end of 2023

After recovery, half way into 2024, he was an automatic selection adding to the improvement of the team - and rightly an automatic selection

Simply, he is a very capable 199cm defender and as is being learnt across the competition they do not grow on trees

I do not view Shoenmakers as in competition with Howard because he is not a last line defender as Howard is

More a replacement for the 3rd wheel outer line Battle

Given mids are educated to putting the ball to the advantage of forwards, defenders have an unenviable job which Howard performs well
