I just think the challenge is getting someone better.

Hayes looks dangerous when he plays even if not perfect. It’s one thing to cut him for being injury prone but the player you bring in should be better.

Soldo stinks. You’re not winning in that deal.

Personally I’m completely with BM on this point. I’d rather time the dice on him having a better year. His injuries aren’t overuse use injuries. They’re unlucky

Hayes was a very good utility player with Woodville West Torrens in the SANFL but was overlooked Draft after Draft because he lacked the size for a KPP or Ruck at AFL level

A standout performance in an SANFL Grand Final saw him invited to train with St Kilda - and added to the StKilda List

So the exact same course as Wilkie - who has gone onto the AFL career he has enjoyed

Hayes is handy as back up - if fit

In suppprt of that conclusion, shortly after his debut game he was dropped to the VFL before returning to the AFL side

If Hayes does go to another club that may mean Tim Membrey gets another year, as I always thought only one of the two would be needed in 2025..

I consider Membrey to be by far the better of the two.

Definitely big enough for a KPP he is a big man - similar build to Jeremy McGovern

But yes, clearly undersized for a ruck

I think he’d be a great CHB

Smart player

What you mean is Soldo stinks, in your opinion.

An opinion not shared by our footy club.

Soldo averages 28 hit outs and almost ten to advantage, so I think that might be the reason why the Saints are interested.

Not expensive, versatile, and got the right attitude (based on seeing him play)...give him another year. I remember when we gave Dean Rice (antoher utility player) to the Blues after he had a couple of bad injuries, and watched him play a premiership and 7 or 8 seasons there...

Yes it's a chance he'll get injured, but for a one year contract I think it's worth the risks.

193cms and 91kgs

Not a KPP option and not a ruck option

A third wheel in attack where the competition is Owens, Sharman and Membrey given Membrey’s contract is extended

Then you get to pace

No way he’s 91kg and I’d be surprised if he’s only 193cm

He’s a big man having stood next to him - much bigger than Battle

I’d have him pegged at 194/195 and 96-100kg

I agree, I saw him on a plane one day and he looked taller than 193, though very lean.

He plays tall as well.

Wonder how his recent medical went.. is he still injured or is he ready for preseason?

He's got talent, but he'll be 29 in March. Alot of speculation for a 5 gamer. He's definitely a 'teammates walk taller' player which is also a plus.

Like BM said, not sure its wise to keep both he and Membrey though.

he got 17 touches vs Norf, in Rd 9, first game back since 2023 injury.

How did he go?
I can't recall

The club has finally revealed the one year extensions to Zac Jones and Dougal Howard that have been known for weeks.

But no mention of extensions to

Jack Hayes
Olli Hotton
Tim Membrey
Ben Paton
And no mention of the future of Brad Crouch who is believed to be contracted for next year but may not be medically fit to play on.

Players without contracts eventually become free agents so can move to other clubs without being traded.

Crouch won’t play again, I believe he and the club are working out a settlement as reported on SEN recently. Has degenerative arthritic knee condition.

Keep Membrey for one more year.
The rest are of limited value to any AFL side.

A real shame that Paton suffered a horrific double leg break in early 2021, after having a breakout season in 2020.

If Ben Paton gets delisted and doesn't get picked up by any other AFL club, he can finally begin civil proceedings against Jarryd Roughead

Hawthorn could add that to the list of literation against them as Roughead is back with them now he will probably denied it like Clarkson did.

Ben Paton talking to GWS. We could get something for him, if only a later pick to get points for our NGA products.

I really like the look of Hoffman, while Cole could develop into a handy lockdown type. A successor to Dougal, perhaps.

There is video footage of the aftermath and about 40 team mates and staff who witnessed it.

It would make for a very interesting battle in court. Paton has all the evidence he needs, and Roughead was clearly acting outside the boundaries of his designated position in recruiting and list management. (Demarcation dispute anyone?)

I recall Roughead saying he decided to join the drill on the spur of the moment, as he had done before. The difference this time were the consequences of him "joining in" significantly affected, maybe even curtailed entirely, a young man's very promising career.

I'm sure there's an ambulance chaser out there who'd be willing to take it on. And it is Hawthorn. F*** Roughead and his "Hokball" mates at the family club.

His legacy at our club will now
be having probably wrecked one career and having a hand in pinching another player we had invested in, quite heavily.

That's two he owes us. His surname is an aptronym as well.

Some players bodies are just not up for AFL.
The 2.0l 4 cylinder engine rocks in a Carolla.
However it would break in a RAM
It would get the RAM around town, but when it comes to towing and driving up mountains it breaks.

Much like many players bodies. They can be awesome at club level. But when it comes to the riggers of AFL they just break.
Once a player reaches 28 it is a bit like a 10 year old car. If it has been inconsistent for the first 10 years it is not going to get any better.

Comparisons to Harvey are ridiculous. Out and out star that had 2 knee recos v a borderline player with numerous body issues.

You cannot make a 10 year old car new. You cannot cure old.

Or put it another way. Their is a finite amount of resources. Do you put time and energy into Schonmakers or Hayes?

I want to keep both Membrey and Hayes. (Are you listeninng St K F C??!)

I agree that 2025 would be their final chance -- but I think they both have a lot of value to offer.
In Membrey's case, we saw it on the field this year -- overall a very good season from him.
In Hayes' case, we glimpsed it in the past -- I think it a big mistake not to allow it one more chance to reveal itself.

JACK HAYES
The delisted Saint has toured Collingwood and could find a home as a delisted free agent after being cut by St Kilda.

This is in HS (today)

When was he officially delisted??
