Compo - Pick 9
What to do with it?
If we didn’t trade it, and it would have to be an absolute
jet with at least 5/6 years left
My thoughts
There are 8 out and out midfield guns at the top of the draft
O’Sullivan, Smith, Smillie, Draper, Reid, Langford, Lalor, Ashcroft.
We should definitely keep pick 8 to get one of those players
But if a team in front of us in the draft selects a tall Trainor or Armstrong
2 gun mids will be available- so I would hold the pick. And select 2 gun mids.
If all of those 8 mids are gone - I’d ask for extra time!
Take phone calls on what someone is willing to pay
If not good enough deal is
And all those mids are gone - take Trainor (touted as a pick 2 at one stage)
If a cracker deal two picks in the mid teens
And hope for Hotton and Hynes

Re: Compo - Pick 9
Until that happens it is pick 8.
While it is likely to happen that way, theoretically it could shift back even further if Lombard and Kako get bids before our picks.
Just call it what it is, until it isn’t.

Re: Compo - Pick 9
There is nothing more certain
Ashcroft will get a bid in the top 3
So our picks will slide 1 - guaranteed
Lombard may or may not get a bid inside 8 but I doubt it
Akko might get a bid around 15

I agree that it likely the way it will happen.
But it hasn’t happened yet.
So just call it what it is now, rather than what it might be.

Re: Compo - Pick 9
Picks 7 and 8 in this years draft.
I wonder if we have another Clark/Coffield bonanza with those 2 picks.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Unfortunately Coffield turned out to be rubbish.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Compo - Pick 9
IMO it’s a hard one. He looked decent in 2020 and then was tearing it up in the preseason… ripping shape and then had 2 season ending injuries back to back.
Absolutely destroyed the kid.
I think this was what… his first largely injury free year in 4 years or something. Wayyyy off the pace. Will be a player I watch with interest in 2025. Might be decent if he can have a good run at it.

Re: Compo - Pick 9
He struggled to stand under the footy. For a defender who relies on intercept marking, that' a problem.....skeptic wrote: ↑Fri 04 Oct 2024 11:29pm IMO it’s a hard one. Re: Compo - Pick 9
Do these bids make any difference to the availability of players we want or does the team who bids then get a pick before us? Ashcroft is going to go before our pick anyway.

Re: Compo - Pick 9
If Richmond were to bid on Ashcroft with pick 1, Brisbane would match with some combination of lower picks (at a discount).
Richmond then gets pick 2. So it’s likely there will be 7 players off the board before our first pick which is currently 7.

Ashcroft was never available to us anyway
There are 7 gun mids - if a tall gets selected in the top 7
We will get access to 2 of them

How about trading out pick 9 and next years first round pick for Nths pick 2, apparently they are looking for a deal

Give them pick 8 and next years frdp ...plus a player
We've just signed Bradley Hill to a 3 year deal. We really value him but if Clarko needs us to sweeten the deal and he wants Hill ...then thanks for your service Brad
Or give them players and a combination of picks.

Q. Why did I always shout Cough Up at the TV every time he got a possession?
A. Because he surely coughed it up.

Pick #7 and Collard for #3?
Perhaps the newly contract extended Collard would like to head home?
