Re: Houston
Jack Macrae signed a 5 year deal with the Dogs in 2022 at age 27 to make him a “Dog for life”…

Re: Houston
St Bernard perhaps?
You make a very valid point, players can fall away at any age, particularly players who lack a yard as the games continues to get faster.
I was very surprised we offered Hill & Wood 3 year deals when Hill 2 and Wood year by year seem sufficient.
5 or 7 year deals for guys in their late 20’s seems fraught with risk.

Re: Houston
Well he is a life member of the Doggies, and remember every human year = 7 doggy years. Now he can transition to a Saint, all good.

Reckon Hill and Wood are cultural pillars we want to build around. Highly valuable even if output wanes in their last year or soD.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Sat 05 Oct 2024 8:03pmSt Bernard perhaps?

Re: Houston
Hang on, Yorkeys. If he was 27 when he signed on again in 2022, doesn't that now make him 41? (27 + 2 x 7). No thanks.

Now now Nick, we are an aware and non discriminatory organisation in the current iteration, no ageism and no pointing out my math is rubbish, ok.Nick DalSanto Claus wrote: ↑Sun 06 Oct 2024 3:36amHang on, Yorkeys. Re: Houston
They’ll get a top 3 pick next year (most likely) if he takes free agency, therefore that offer equates to #9 and say around #16 once you dilute our first next year with their 2nd.
They are better off keeping him for another season then getting the higher pick.

Re: Houston
By the by, is Houston a better player than Luke Hodge (was)?
Just trying to get a benchmark. Appreciate your opinion.

Re: Houston
Different, not necessarily better but very good.
Houston is a gun running half back, a bit like Sinclair but possibly the very best kick in the competition, and a smart decision maker (prefer to avoid the quarterback description). He's a 2 x all Australian.
Luke Hodge was more of a tough leader, perhaps in the Selwood mold. Don't recall how many all Australian's but pretty sure he was a 3 x Premiership captain.
