Dan Hannebery on Hunter Clark
Quote from trade radio
"He's a star"
Went on to say that he's had no continuity in his football (mostly from facial injuries) which has hampered him, and said if the Saints didn't want him, he'd be ringing up Kinnear Beatson to get him to the Swans
For all you people on the Hunter Hate Train, I think I'd trust Dan Hannebery's opinion over your Negative Nellie drivel
Obviously Ross Lyon rates him, too. Our most effective clearance player this year

I'm all in with Ross and Dan on this one. Only a nuff nuff fool with little football knowledge would disagree.

Re: Dan Hannebery on Hunter Clark
I don’t know that many here don’t rate him. Has copped a bit of flak for reduced minutes but he’s universally trusted RE ball in hand, impact etc.
Personally, he’s one that could really go up a gear next season into that near elite category and elevate us with him

Re: Dan Hannebery on Hunter Clark
Very underrated by some. I believe he has star potential. Watch his highlights before the McKay collision and the miserable run of injuries he's had.
He showed in the later rounds of last season what he is capable of. Finally, he was fully fit and had continuity in his return to the senior side.
He is exactly what we need more of. A good "extractor" who can win his own ball and an excellent kick, on both feet, no less. Fingers crossed he has a strong pre-season and goes to the next level.

I think the poor lad is trying to hide the thinning of his hair.
It always amazes me why lads that are prematurely balding grow their hair in a lank & straggly manner, hence the headbands - it only accentuates they are beginning to thin on the dome.
Short hair doesn’t fall out as quickly & looks thicker. Talk to your barbers fellows !!
A few at Geelong are similar……. though one could argue it’s a fashion statement for hillbillies world wide!!

Re: Dan Hannebery on Hunter Clark
I think he averages more touches per minute played than anyone on our list.
Problem is he only plays 60% every week,
Hope like hell he has the pre-season of his life and we can get his game time up to at least 75%
That's when he goes to the next level we are looking for.

Re: Dan Hannebery on Hunter Clark
A mid only playing 55-60% put extra workload and stress on the other mids.
Put simply
He is not fit enough- never has been!

You really have it in for Clark. That must be about the hundredth time you've written the same thing. It's like you're wishing him to fail

Re: Dan Hannebery on Hunter Clark
No
I want him to work his arse off, get fully fit and be able to run games out playing 75% and getting 25+
I think he is a great player, not playing to his potential due to something he can control - his work rate
Always been a Hunter fan, was before we drafted him - great hands, good step, very courageous and uses it ok (bit sloppy at times)
His aerobic capacity is below average for an AFL mid

I've argued against people on this forum who were wanting to get rid of Clark from our team a couple of years ago.
I'm really happy Hunter was able to get continuity at the back end of the year. All he needed was a kick in the arse...and to grow up.
His clearance work is elite and he's got a fair bit of improvement in him...imo. It will come if he continues to commit.
He's young in terms of games played and therefore I don't think he's got the wear and tear in his legs that you'd normally expect from other inside mids of similar age.
I had a look at Dustin Martin for 2017 and 2018. His tog was 65%. Don't forget he won a Brownlow, a premiership and the Norm Smith medal in 2017.
Hunter hasn't got Dusty's power...or his disposal efficiency by foot, but it just goes to show you can be effective with under 65% tog
By the way...Dusty increased his fitness and tog in later years, but it was a slow grind. In 2019 (another premiership year) he got it to 66.3 %

Re: Dan Hannebery on Hunter Clark
I’ve seen this a few times… when he gets tired, his technique really drops off in terms of protecting himself. He starts going into contests head first, dropping his shoulder etc
Then he gets hurt
IMO he’s rotated a lot for this reason

Re: Dan Hannebery on Hunter Clark
i recall that in several games this year, his time on ground was 55% or similar, yet he still got 25 touches.
I trust the High Performance folks, and the fitness team.
Remember each player wears a GPS tracker between their shoulder blades.
He's kept on the bench a lot because they know how much he's run, and how much he has in the tank.
There's probably valid reasons why he's not as fit as say Darcy Wilson or others, and I'm guessing the fitness mob are working with him. Maybe he'll get OP like Luke Ball did, if they make his TOG over 80%
We don't know what the issue is.

I’ve always rated him. He’s classy. Hopefully he gets a good run at it with no significant injuries and can build his tank a bit. That’s the only thing holding him back

Re: Dan Hannebery on Hunter Clark
Super courageous, good in close, good skills, smart player.
I really like him in the contests and with ball in hand.
Unfortunately he has the running capacity of a standard VFL player. A lot of this is natural and on top of that work which has probably been injury interrupted.
Wilson is an elite natural athlete who also trains his arse off. Nothing Clark could ever do would get him remotely to this standard. But he can improve doing the work.
If he can get a very good fitness level, he will be a very good player.

I like the way some armchair experts claim that a player, in this case Hunter Clark, does NOT "works his arse off" on the training track or gym, and is therefore not fit enough.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Fri 04 Oct 2024 11:33pm i recall that in several games this year, his time on ground was 55% or similar, yet he still got 25 touches.

It is well known that since Ross Lyon's return as head coach the standards of training have improved measurably, and if any player failed to put in 100% effort I doubt that he would be selected, and instead demoted to the reserves until he does.
And as WellardSaint correctly points out, for all we know Clark has minor physical issues that have limited his game time this year.

Re: Dan Hannebery on Hunter Clark
It's a scientific fact loris, and can also affect women, as explained in the following article from a dermatologist on Google:
"It can be discouraging to lose our hair, only to see it appear somewhere else on our body where we don't want it. Although frustrating, it's a natural part of the aging process for men and women alike.
Hair on the scalp, under the arms, groin, eyebrows, ears, and nostrils are called terminal hairs. They are controlled and regulated by hormones called androgens. Receptors that bind to androgens are unique in different areas of your body.
When it comes to terminal hairs, the most important androgen is testosterone.
As we age, testosterone levels begin to decrease. While testosterone levels decrease, the hormone-binding globulins (groups of proteins in the blood) increase. This process alters the signals to the hair, leading to less hair on the scalp and more growth on the brows, ears and nostrils.
This process is also why patients undergoing testosterone therapy will often note hair loss or loss of hair thickness on their scalp."
Obviously in some men the decreasing process occurs early in life, and one needs to think twice before contemplating testosterone therapy
