Re: Band 1 compensation
Finally, we get some luck come our way and the AFL world screams foul. Well, those whingers are just gonna have to all suck it up! None of those silk-wearing buttercups would last a week following a hapless club like St.Kilda!
Curb your enthusiasm - you’re a St.Kilda supporter!!

Who is screaming?
I'll send someone over to keep them smiling.

Re: Band 1 compensation
Damian Barrett and his panel on trade radio are going off about Battle and Perryman getting band 1 compensation
for their clubs. They are saying the system is farked and it needs to be scrapped, they can't handle the Saints having picks 7 and 8.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Re: Band 1 compensation
Congratulations to AB for his persistence. It wasn't the speech at the TB award night that made the difference.
It was his campaigning behind the scenes all year that ensured we didn't get bent over. Again.
I don't understand the meltdowns of opposition supporters over this. It should always been band one compensation, given the reported size and length of Battle's new contract.
The more time that goes by, the more my admiration for Bassat grows. I can't imagine Nettlefool, Summers and Wasteaway doing what AB has done. We are in good hands.
Now over to SOS, Dalrymple and Gubby. Don't stuff it up!

Eff 'em I say.
I have never given a rats about what that clown Barrett has to say. Not now or in the past as he is a total irrelevant dropkick.

We’ve done well out of this. We lost a liar who didn’t want to be at The Club and we got pick eight not bad

Re: Band 1 compensation
Barrett, the man named purple, after the colour of the head of the penis (How appropriate).
This maggot who is an avowed saints' hater will be choking on this. My schadenfruede meter is currently off the dial!
May I remind this corkhead that his basket case of a club received pick three as compo for that spud, McKay, last year. I can't remember him whining too much about that.
Q. What's the difference between Barrett and a catfish?
A. One is a bottom-dwelling scum sucker. The other one is a fish.
Thank you very much. I'll see myself out.

Barrett has, and always will be, as the Irish say "A gobshite"
The guy is a clueless, attention seeking try-hard. How he has been employed by television and radio for this long is beyond comprehension. Surely they can find someone better than this troglodyte. He makes Mark Robinson sound like a sage

I think pick 8 is more valuable than 15 and 20 (which will actually end up being 18 and 23)

Re: Band 1 compensation
I would prefer to explore going the other way.
The very best midfielders in this draft will be gone at pick 8 (St Kilda first pick after Brisbane steals Ashcroft)
As it stands Richmond has pick 1 (3000 points), North pick 2 (2517 points) and West Coast pick 3 (2234 points)
But Brisbane queue jumping for Ashcroft devalues those picks to Richmond 2517 points, North 2,234 points and West Coast 2034 points
Both picks 7 & 8 will slip one place, to 8 & 9 after Ashcroft taken and pick 25 will slip even further maybe to 30 after Perryman compensation to GWS and other father son.
Pick 8 has a value of 1551 points and pick 30 has 629 points.
Add them together and you get 2180 points between pick 3 & 4 but assuming Ashcroft gone by then you would be trading with the holders of 2 & 3 which would be devalued to 2234 & 2034 points, that means trading up with North Melbourne or West Coast
A trade with North would give St Kilda pick 3 with Ashcroft and 1 other already taken
A trade with West Coast would give St Kilda pick 4 with Ashcroft and 2 others gone.
The 3rd or 4th best midfielder gets landed.
You would have to trust the recruiters not to get it wrong yet again as they did with McCartin and Billings.
St Kilda does not need picks for also ran midfielders, they need picks for the cream of midfielders.

Just reward for not tanking. In fact, for doing the opposite of tanking. Conspicuously.

No, far better chance of nailing a gun at #8.
Beating Carlton doesn’t look so cheerful now, could have been #5.
Nonetheless, I still take the win.

Re: Band 1 compensation
Recently, for some reasons, it's become apparent most commentators are partisan so their opinions can't be taken seriously: and that they take themselves seriously even though they are partisan.
Very few can claim professionalism.
Only one seems able to give fair commentary on the Saints and he is clearly partisan as well, but a good student of the game.

Re: Band 1 compensation
I know I'm hoping for a miracle, but my letter to Santa includes the names Langford and Lalor.
It's likely that we split pick 8. RTB and SOS have both indicated that 3 first rounders is their aim. Will I get my wish or will I get a Daryl Kerrigan, "Tell him he's dreamin' ".
That's an impressive list BM has put up. It appears to have great depth. We have 3 picks in the first 22 (before the inevitable F/S & Academy picks) as things stand.
Hynes, Lindsay and Hotton look tempting and gettable as well. Hotton's progress in his recovery from his ACL injury will be crucial.
I've been keen on him having seen him a few times prior to the injury. He's a smooth mover, with very good skills.
He might slide because of the knee injury and would be a bargain if we have another pick late in the first round. I did rate Ollie and was glad we snapped him up at the time. It hasn't turned out as I hoped.
I hope Ollie remains on the list, has an injury-free preseason and shows us his best, which I firmly believe is up to AFL standard. Fingers crossed on all fronts.

It’s good that he is speaking for the club and trying to get a more level playing field. I think it was calculated and smart.

Not sure what you are talking about. Clark is a gun (he just needs to stay on the ground).magnifisaint wrote: ↑Fri 04 Oct 2024 1:19pm That's worked out better for St Kilda than if he stayed. Get 2 rooly good players. Don't f*** it up like you did with Clark and Coffield!
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Band 1 compensation
I think the work he did all through the year behind closed doors had an impact
We are in very good hands with 2 genuinely strong leaders in Bassatt and Lyon at the helm
The AFL know they will go hard and now publicly as well - they don’t like that
Biggest issue now? …how quickly can we change club constitution and keep Bassatt in the top job longer …smart hombre
“Yeah….nah””
