Re: Battle told not to attend B and F
I can't imagine the club would have put any pressure on Josh Battle to confirm or deny media reports that he would be moving to Waverley Park next year, and it was his decision to announce that he would take up the Hawks offer sooner rather than later.
So I agree with the view that once he advised the club of his intention to play for Hawthorn next year, he in effect shut the door on his days as a St Kilda player and should have realised that it would be inappropriate for him to attend the Barkers Award night with his former team mates.
It also makes me wonder why he asked if he could run through the banner with his kids rigged up in the club's colours one last time in his final game against Carlton - maybe he is planning to write a book

let him run through a Hawks banner the first time Hawks play us.
Josh wears Hawks colours, the kids just wear their dirty nappies, which are Hawks colours too

Re: Battle told not to attend B and F
No-one is saying he wasn't getting a good deal with the Saints reported offer, just that there are ways that what appeared to be walking out for less money can actually be more money in the long run.
We will never know the intricacies of the Saints offer or the Hawks deal so we can never really say which deal was 'better' (both financially and non-financially). Only Battle can do that and he has told us through his decision.

Re: Battle told not to attend B and F
It's pretty obvious he's left because he thinks he'll have more chance of success at Hawthorn.
The hard question to ask is then, what does that say about the direction of the club if someone who's been there for years and a part of the inner sanctum doesn't see success on the horizon?

We know he was a Hawthorn supporter growing up, but that's not enough motivation to want to leave a football club you've been part of for 7 years.
Give us something CURLY. Why do you think Battle wanted to leave the Saints?

Players leave clubs all the time and no matter how good the culture, environment the success they still leave. It's baffling, frustrating and to be honest mind blowing that you can sit with a bloke that has just played in a Grand Final and they are thinking about going elswhere.Scollop wrote: ↑Wed 02 Oct 2024 3:47pmYou're dismissing what he said and you're not actually saying anything specific...as usualCURLY wrote: ↑Wed 02 Oct 2024 3:19pmYou haven't been around football clubs much have you?The_Dud wrote: ↑Wed 02 Oct 2024 3:07pm It's pretty obvious he's left because he thinks he'll have more chance of success at Hawthorn.

Why thank you. Why do you think it has to be something sinister the club has done rather than just another player thats enjoyed being chased.Scollop wrote: ↑Wed 02 Oct 2024 4:08pmThanks for the cliches and generalisationsCURLY wrote: ↑Wed 02 Oct 2024 3:55pmPlayers leave clubs all the time and no matter how good the culture, environment the success they still leave. Why did he WANT to LEAVE the Saints?
If you don't know. Then just say so
Re: Battle told not to attend B and F
Perhaps, just perhaps, Kennett has offered him pre selection in a “safe” Liberal seat post his football career
Except that, given the spotlight on just some of the toxic DNA of the Liberal Party and the control Kennett has threatening pre selections, there may not be a Liberal seat in wider Melbourne, let alone a “safe” one Federal or State
Correct assumption?
Don’t know, but as good as any other speculation doing the rounds
One thing for certain, he had made up his mind well before season’s end, if not well sooner
Again noting others have moved from St Kilda to Hawthorn with Robert Harvey going the other way so back to St Kilda
As one who has put that St Kilda require support for Marshall , King and Howard (plus adding midfield class), the absence of Lyon saying Battle is a required player is telling
So Battle, playing as a KPP at 193cms and 83kgs was part of the problem, not part of the fix
And his lack of flexibility despite opportunity being given
Anyway he is now in the employ of a competitor Club and his locker at St Kilda is empty awaiting the next user
Life goes on

Re: Battle told not to attend B and F
While in one hand it may sound petty, but there is likely more than one side to this story.
If players and staff alike are snubbing Battle, it may be more than just sour grapes. As good a player as Battle is, we aren’t losing a league top fiver.
Maybe there is discontent as to how Battle handled the negotiation process, what he told his peers compared to what transpired?
Maybe it’s warranted, maybe not.
All I know is that we’ve recently tried being the club of pleasant, cuddly men and that certainly hasn’t helped our brand.

People keep stating (as fact) Battle left for less money than we offered.
I am yet to see one piece of evidence proving this.
Surely the reliable Tom Morris is not the source?

One player leaving ...that's a massive sign of a lack of faith in the Club's direction.
Maybe Josh wants to support them in the Federal Court, or is cool with their family planning advice to their players' partners...
I take it you're a big fan of the Hawks' past culture, Dud?

Another rumour is that his dad refused to attend his games. Rumour.
He's one guy. He preferred the Hawks for a few reasons, and only a few (Wilkie and some other players) would know the truth.
If he's peed off about Hill's+King's $$ that's the fault of Lethlean etc for wasting $ on Hanneberry, but I suspect it's not the sole reason

It’s an absolute s*** go, if it’s true.
Clubs need to be better than that, I’m sure the players wouldn’t have given two f**** and would’ve preferred to see him there.
