Lyon could learn off hm.
Fagan is running an AFL sponsored list and it’s taken him a while
Give lyon that and see what happens…
Don’t speak the truth you’ll get shot down.

Apparently handing top rated kids to already contending lists has no advantage to them.

Well we gave up a 27 point lead in a final 18 years ago so obviously we are the only team who could give up a big lead in a final.

If Fagan was like Lyon he would have told Brisbane they were washed up after 2023 ...and it was 'the end of an era'

Lyon had a team full of great champions, great player leadership gifted to him, AA talent (including Goddard who was a bonus draft pick) and he still fluffed it

Lyon fkd up with Luke Ball - that simple - from what I hear, Ross treated him like s***! Because he thought Luke couldn’t spread or defend (a player who averaged 6 tackles a game!)

I think he fpund Luke entitled?

Anyway, cost him a flag. And the list management cost him even more!!!!
Trading out Ball, Clark, Maguire for a packet of twisties
Bringing in Jesse Smith (0 games) Will Johnson (2 games) Adam Pattison (Gumby)
Trading a FRDP for a c*** like Andrew Lovett

It wasn’t that those players went on to be stars (Ball was excellent at Collingwood) it was the fact it tore at the fabric of the club

That was the beginning of the end

Then the bungled rebuild of Pelchen sent us into the abyss for a decade

I think the Swans will struggle to be as good next year.
Let's be honest, they were not worthy finalists in 2023 either as an umpiring mistake gifted them a (short-lived) finals berth.
I can see them dropping out of the Top 8 next season completely.

Ball
I reckon that '6 tackles' would be his average... pre-OP. Till Ball's OP kicked in (~2006...?) he wasn't far short (if at all) of Judd or Hodge, IMHO. But afterwards... correct, he could not run, spread, nor kick over a jam jar. I read how Skunk's players when he went there, were amazed at his training standards, and... at how far he couldn't kick a footy (anymore). And I'm not sure that I'd say that he was 'excellent' at the Skunks(?) :?

Early in the 2009 GF when we were struggling, Ball got a clear shot on goal from about 35m out. I remember thinking how we really needed one here. His kick barely reached the goal square(!) That's when I knew his time was up.

So, no idea about the rights and wrongs of how Lyon actually treated Ball, but IMHO, I can see why Lyon wasn't prepared to tie-up the top $$$ from the salary cap that Ball used to be worth.

Lovett
was desperation by us. We needed a fast outsider to break the lines for us. But our abysmal salary cap situation meant we couldn't compete with other clubs when a likely candidate became available.

Jesse Smith.
I'd do that low risk/high reward type of trade every day of the week. That bloke was an absolute out and out star. If things had worked out, we'd have won the flag in 2009/10, and may be 2011 also.

And what did he cost? A pic in the 50s from memory...? Yep. I'd do a deal like that every day of the week.

Lovett plays in the GF in 2010 we win. Clearly a risk that at the time was more than worth it.

You don’t recruit arseholes with massive behavioural concerns

Red flags were obvious

Ignored them, couldn’t see the forest for the trees
